Truth. A particular aspect I have seen some complaining about is that people somehow felt Reyna being taken away from her was the reason Myrrah went on the genocidal campaign against humans. But that just isnât true. If people cared to look behind the surface and dug into the details for how the Locust were created at New Hope/Mount Kadar, they would find there is a clear connection to Myrrahâs hatred for humanity coming from the only image she has learnt to see humans as - beings that keep fighting wars and creating tools to fight those wars with, of which the Locust were intended to be one to end the Pendulum Wars, and that there is no chance of coming to a peaceful agreement with if the Locust were to live on the surface. The way Niles and his coworkers basically just experimented on the children and her and perhaps treated everyone who wasnât a scientist there - as âtest subjectsâ, certainly didnât help it either.
For all the flak I have given TC for some of their - in my opinion - missteps, I have to hand it to them that when you go scratching underneath the surface, they certainly are good at this story stuff. I sure find they connected to the old lore while adding their new things to it, particularly in the Myrrah bits, quite well. That of course requires one to read some of those collectibles properly, and put some thought into things that are being said, rather than just skimming over the top of it all and complaining that the Campaign âisnât Gearsâ because it dares to try some new things(a big plus is the ability to stealth kill enemies in an encounter to pass through it, or take some enemies out before engaging to make it easier, the free roam stuff is also quite nice to me even if there is complaints about there not being enough to do which doesnât bother me), while still at the same time providing the old, more linear style of Gears experience in different parts of the Campaign, mainly in Act 1 and Act 4. Though Act 2 and 3 also have a few fairly big fights in them in some places.
Finding old things like(minor spoiler if ya havenât found these collectibles) Adamâs glasses and Prescottâs watch on Azura, Minhâs COG tags outside the Tomb of the Unknowns, thatâs also a nice touch.
I guess my only real issue with the Campaign is the handling of certain characters and story elements(Lizzie didnât need to be killed off and could have been great as a support character or secondary to the main squad like Clayton perhaps[I see no need to go into detail with how her death scene barely makes sense and how she could have gotten out of there easily or without major injuries], no details on the gaps between Act 1/Act 2, Act 2/ Act 3, the Kraken once again being introduced to barely have a presence, albeit more than the âhive beastâ in Gears 4, since it is seen destroying the beacons around old Ephyra, but still basically not doing a lot and being around for a short period of time before being killed off⌠is there more of those things? there wonât always a Hammer satellite available to blast them to pieces). Otherwise it still is great. Just wish more people could see it instead of complaining it is bad and âisnât Gearsâ when to me it totally still is while bringing new aspects in that are pretty good as well(and Kait does have a fine body to look at but thatâs not strictly relevant). Just wish I could say the same for the rest of Gears 5 or at least Horde.
But enough of this. Ainât looking to hijack this thread with a bunch of lore stuff.
More likely to be a reference to the Gnasher in Gears 4 Versus consistently producing 83% shots on what people thought would be a kill shot from what I can remember. It even created several memes on the internet. Ryan even had/has the number on the front page description of his Twitter account.
