Mathematical Proof the Tour of Duty System Is Whack

Private MP? I’m not talking Horde and Escape. Those are the grind methods.

I think levelling up should award stars tbh.

By MP you mean versus, right? In that case, I’m not sure, but it’s probably worth testing since private Horde and Escape definitely do count.

After a week of playing, Each day playing maybe 2-3 hours (weekends maybe a couple more) and not spending any iron for re rolls, I am 2 stars away from team metal gnasher.
I’m at 55% medal progress. So with still over 2.5 months left in the operation the Tour of Duty is very obtainable.
If anyone needs help with strategy on some of the medals feel free to add me MrBeardz.

The 1 million power one is probably one of the worst, I will agree.

The mastering hives, the Cyro Cannon kills and the 1 million power is the worst ones, but most of them are more than obtainable in 12 weeks.

It also helps if you are someone like me who is willing to put the time into every mode.

I got that in 30 mins on the hive after the first checkpoint.

The Tour of Duty system is just a battle pass system you don’t have to pay into. Is it a particularly good fit for Gears? Maybe not, Gears doesn’t really have the level of customization in it to make most of the rewards meaningful. If you’re like me and already have a mark and banner you like then most of those rewards mean nothing. I would have liked to see an additional benefit to each rank, maybe a little scrap or boost or split up the lump sums of iron you get at some ranks and get a little at each instead.

As for the stars, there’s a little too much rng as far as what challenges you get and the stars they give. I think some rebalancing is necessary as well. Some challenges give 3 stars and can be done in 5 minutes, others could take hours, I specifically dislike the ‘Win a match on X map’ as its just ‘Win a match’ but with a random variable that could make it take forever and has nothing to do with your skill.

I do understand why they give you a mix of horde/versus/escape challenges though. It’s a way of pushing people to at least try things and also keep the player pools in each mode somewhat populated, this is somewhat critical considering how many divisions in Horde and Escape there are.

Quick solution might be to give you a 1 star, 2 star, and 3 star challenge slot to guarantee 6 stars a day and let you lock one or two of those slots to specific modes,

Example- I like versus over anything else so I lock my 3 star slot to a Versus challenge but could still get a Horde or Escape challenge for the 1 star and 2 star.

This would let people get the most out of what they want to do but still occasionally push them into playing a little of something else while guaranteeing General if you did your challenges every day.

I tried getting cryo cannon kills on Escape, but it won’t work, I think it’s because if you leave the enemies long enough, they will unfreeze, thus they are not killed.

I don’t know how to get it in Escape, so I’ll have to hope to get Icebound on KotH a lot

after the first checkpoint on “the hive” you will get a set of enemies, if its the 8 drones you down them with the shock grenade then kill with cryo. when you freeze a enemies in a downed state its a insta kill and registers as the cryo kill. just keep restarting the act to rinse and repeat. Hope this helps

Thank you, will try it later.

If you feel addicted to earning a virtual reward, thats on you.

Not sure why people are stressing or burning themselves out to try to complete the Tour of Duty in a week when you have 3 months but I guess nowadays players need to have their rewards right now with as little effort as possible.

I have clips on my xbox account MrBeardz doing this method. Feel free to add

The Tour of Duty is meant for the dedicated players. If you reduce/remove the grind, they quickly complete the Tour and then don’t have that ‘carrot on a stick’ that so many gamers seem to need to have fun with a game these days.

If you aren’t a dedicated Gears gamer than Im not sure why these cosmetics are even relevant to you.
Its not like that Kait skin is going to make the game more fun for you so just play the game the way you want to play it.

Its really amazing to see people stressing or burning themselves out after 1 week when you have 3 months to complete the Tour.

Bottom line, not everyone needs to have every cosmetic in a game for their life to be complete.

Uhm, no.

It’s “I got what I cared about, so I’m not bothered by the BS needed to get what I don’t care about.”

I would rather they focus on the gameplay mechanism than on tweaking custom rewards to make sure everyone, regardless of what they want and how they think they should be able to get it, is happy… Because that’s an impossible task…

Feel free to prioritize your time grinding in a video game but you need to realize the majority of players don’t want Progression to feel like a chore. The system is objectively bad as it does not value a players time or a players personal preferences.

An objectively good system is one where all game modes earn xp and all unlocks are tied to xp so no matter what you want to do you are making progress while you enjoy the game your way. You can keep the medals and challenges for people like you… just have them boost xp.

At the end of a day it’s a video game that should be fun and there are a lot of better things to do with your time than to defend a company that doesn’t respect yours.

Learning the definition of “objective” would be a good use of your time if you aren’t grinding medals.

I know what objective means. It means my feelings aside. You seem to be the one who is not arguing points objectively. Why don’t you look at the argument again before being triggered by my use of a word? The system is objectively bad for the reasons I stated. I also illustrated what an objectively good system might look like. You can play with semantics all you want but a system that is not player friendly is bad. OBJECTIVELY bad. Sorry if you disagree.

You dislike the ToD system. I like it. Seems like what makes a good progression system is a subjective judgment.

So I completely understand your post and have read the replies as well.

I see your points on the star system and how increasing the number of stars you earn from daily objectives and medal should help fix that problem. I agree some people don’t have that time.

I remember tc stating that players will be able to earn content from old tours when this was first announced. How you might ask? I’m not sure yet maybe items will be added to supply or something different.

I wanted to point out that with any “battle pass” type system in all game the first season tends to be very bland.

I feel this is done to give players more time to join the game before releasing the good stuff. I like the skins in this tour however, they are by no means exciting. I would expect much more unique content in the next tour. As that tour will be close to Christmas and many 9 year olds will be joining the grind during winter break haha.

I see this tour as a test.

With time and feedback they’ll improve the system before releasing all the good stuff. It’s a win for everyone. Hard work will pay off right in 2nd tour

Really ?? You like being forced to play certain game modes for long periods of time? You like paying money for new random challenges? You like having items no longer being earnable after 3 months? You genuinely like those things? Are you a masochist? Or do you just like it because most people don’t?

Even if you honestly answered yes to all of the above questions, which I highly doubt… you still completely missed my point. I obviously don’t like ToD subjectively, but it’s still OBJECTIVELY bad for being so player unfriendly. The more player friendly it becomes the more OBJECTIVELY good it becomes. Your mind seems to be completely closed off so I’m done arguing with you .
