I just don’t understand why people are focusing on penalizing the quitters more harshly rather than focusing on TC making adjustments to how the rest of the people left in the lobby are treated in regards to points, losses, rank, etc… Isn’t that the real issue that people have with quitting?

I actually agree with your point. People quitting usually means both the winning and losing team de-rank.

Man this is scaring me a bit because I believe in my history of playing I have had to leave a few social/casual matches like maybe 4-6 in total because I often play in the morning but then have to leave for s****l and such so I turn off the xbox or try to finish the game recently I havent since I stopped playing gears in the morning to avoid this but still heres hoping those social matches dont count
or my connection just screws up.
Just finished a game of ranked with a team of 5. As usual one person gets kicked from the party after a game so we all back out to regroup(not in game, not in a lobby vote screen, not even creating match). The game is already auto searching for another match. 3 of us get 30 minute penalty for quitting.
This is ridiculous.
between this and the GW502 error in map loading screens, i cant believe that TC would implement the quitting penalty.
This is just 1 new issue ontop of tons of things that need to be handled(PC errors especially). Most of which I could put up with without complaining, but now i cant even play the game? What happens when I get a GW502 error while loading a map for a ranked game tomorrow? A 1 hour ban? A 24 hour ban??? Fix this broken game, especially before punishing people because of your horrible design.
Edit: Ranked quit penaltys also prevent you from playing hoard, escape, quick play and arcade. Unbelievable Do you really think this is acceptable?
I’m glad it’s implemented. People asked for it, now here it is.
However, if one player on the team quits, the rest should be able to quit without penalty. Because that’ll be 15-30mins wasted on a lost match. And even if you get mvp, you’ll lose rankpoints.
Why would they separate each game type? You get a prompt that there’ll be penalties if you leave. If you leave ranked you shouldn’t be able to queue for anything
We were not in the game. We were searching for a match when the lobby dissolved and we lost one of our teammates. So the rest of us backed out of the search to regroup and got the penalty. Im all for a penalty but you should have to actually quit in a ranked game, not while searching for one. And if the game is going to be riddled with bugs and crashes the penalty should be a derank not a timeout.
Punishing ranked quitters in other non ranked game modes is ridiculous. What are we supposed to do while waiting out the penalty?
To be perfectly honest, I agree with this whole heartedly. I never asked for the quit penalties to be implemented yet because the game is still an unstable mess. Most people are still being dropped from matches instead of leaving. Sure, I know there are some out there who quit but at the moment the most important thing is getting the servers stable. Not to mention that the code for the game doesn’t know if you quit or if you dropped out due to connection issues or error codes. It’s not fair to issue the same punishment to someone who’s got connection issues than someone who just quits.
Yeah, I hate quitters. NEVER quit personally. But I would loath getting into a match having a disconnect, then being banned for 30 minutes. It’s out of my control. Haven’t been banned yet tho.
I don’t know how they reconcile this . So someone pays $60 for a game. Go to play the game in ranked and find the game is a broken piece of crap in multiplayer. They find themselves being kicked from matches randomly fairly often and when they do find a match its against 5 man squad master level players (in the UK) and they are just starting out and solo. So they say I’m not about to sit here and get destroyed for, depending on the mode, 15 to 45 minutes in this laggy unbalanced mess. I bought this game to enjoy it, this is not fair. I’m quitting. They go to quit and it says match making penalties will occur. They say ok, they are going to derank me or something so they do it repeatedly because they just bought a game to enjoy. They are not visiting the forums or Reddit or Twitter…Then after struggling through, trying to get the most enjoyment out of the game they have another crap lobby and leave yet again. Once they go to search again it says the have a…90 day penalty. They had no idea that the quit penalty was suspension from playing the game they spent their hard earned money on because TC ( in their great and unmatched wisdom) didn’t specify what the penalty was nor when it went into effect. They took my money have me a crap game then tell me I can’t even play the game I bought. I would be soooo pissed, and do something about it. GEARS 4 had a message of the day where they told you things going on. Why would they not have that in this game? Another glad of this game. Say the penalty start today. Then give the person to proceed accordingly. Also there has to be some way to prevent people like me from being penalized. Its happened to me in 4 because matches desolve in a 4 or 5 stack team and I wasn’t at the ready to back out before it throws you in a match. That’s bullcrap!!! Happened about 3 or 4 times. My family member messed with the router…a whole host of other possible issues not the least of which is the crap servers in this game. People are already abandoning this game already, are they trying to destroy their own game studios future on purpose? But all that being said i Loath quitters!!! Ive been communication banned on Xbox live multiple times for how pissed I’ve been! My go to that doesn’t get me banned is I call them a loser quitter who has no value.
That moment when devs address the issue only partially, looking at it from just one POV, which is clearly not enough. Thus even more problems emerge afterwards.

That’s a fun scenario and all, but those people don’t belong in ranked. Stick to arcade and custom modes if your number one concern is “enjoying the game”. If you think it’s acceptable to quit in ranked for any reason, don’t play ranked.
People have been calling TC out for this for years, but as usual they ignore the playerbase.
Fix the underlying problems and maybe people won’t quit so much. Then quit penalties can come into play.
The game is in such a horrendous state right now. It’s almost if they are wilfully inflicting damage to the game and don’t see what they are doing.
I’m glad it’s implemented and it needs to stay like that, They knew what they were getting into so it’s their fault for leaving their teams behind and having the team to suffer in their ranks.
