Limit the Skill Rating difference in your group

Devs follow overwatch example on ranked: Limit the “Skill rank” difference “In your group”. Gears 5 have a individual ranking system and that is good but lets say a diamond player get on a group with this 2 silver friends. Sadly the DIAMOND-PLAYER will destroy the entire match even if he probably only get +5 SR.

Smurfing exist and that will always exist but at least with this you prevent have Diamond dudes on bronze matches discouraging them to play the game.

Suggestion:

Bronze 1 -> Silver 1
Silver 2 -> Gold 2
Gold 3 -> Onyx 3
Diamond 1,2,3 -> Master

So lets say my friend is Gold 2 and im Bronze 2 “Sadly i cant play ranked with him” or lets say im “Onyx-1 and my friend is diamond-3” i cant play with him

The next suggestion add CLASSIC-QUICKPLAY with KoTH, GUARDIAN and TDM. Then ask win 20 TDM games, 10 KoTH and 20 guardian “Classic-QP-GAMES” to be able to play “RANKED”.

Hey I made a similar post about a ranking system idea that could flow easily with what you are suggesting. I think that what you are suggesting is a good push towards pushing people to better themselves at the game

I wish they’d just get rid of the ranking system and just throw you to the wolves, get good or die. That’s the Gears I played, didn’t need no sissy filter.

To be fair though, I get it for solo queueing, but when your friends are on, you want to play with your friends, this would just cause more of an up roar. I also don’t think GoW 5 has the player base for that right now either.

The problem is the wolves have already nearly of 500 hours of time-played just on Gears 5 without adding the 3k-4k hours of Gears 4. So for somebody with 20-30 hours will find extremely frustating a match vs them

That’s how I learned. Suck it up and learn. Same for anyone else.

the only way to get better is to get f**cking destroyed. and you learn what not to do and you watch and imitate what better players do and make it your own. when i first started gears. i got ■■■ blasted on the regular. now i put in work.

They should fix their matchmaking first … when i was still finding ranked games 2-3 weeks earlier, most of the game i was playing was against Bronze-Silver players, while i was Master in both gametypes i played, needless to say that i destroyed all those games very easily (especially in Escalation, where it was very frustrating for the opponentssince people didn’t have respawns left later in the game …)

It was boring and uninteresting, and your “idea” would be a good one, but gears don’t have the playerbase to support this, game such as Overwatch or LoL, have way way more players than gears and can do it, here i can’t even find a game despite the terrible matchmaking settings, thus me leaving the game, honestly i suggested thins that could be done at the beggining, that would please a good portion of the playerbase, and was well received here, but they decided to go the opposite way and piss most people, the result is here and now, there is not enough people to actually play the game in most countries and when you are lucky enough to be from the USA, there isn’t enough players left to make a balanced matchmaking.

It’s sad, but it’s the truth, things can still change, if players come back, but i won’t be too optimistic.

For squads, Rank the members of the squad at the rank of the highest squad member.
An Onyx and 2 Bronze in a squad… would get a match against Onyx and Golds in example above.

The best way to push curious new players away from the game is to keep putting them up against really experienced players…

I know… I was a new versus player in GoW4 2 years ago. I had to stop playing with experienced friends because the games were not fun at all.

If you are trying to learn boxing you wont learn by going up against Mike Tyson every time, you just get frustrated and leave.

I completely support the ranking system for that reason and I agree that system should try to limit rank dispersion within a team. If you are a bronze and squad with a Master you know what you are chooosing to do, but a team of 4 onyx should not have a bronze added as the 5th.

Unfortunately TC’s whole matchmaking is based on balancing TOTAL TEAM POINTS, and not keeping the individual levels similar, in a team.

This is a formula for anger & frustration for both the high and low ranked players on teams…

It is almost as if the games first priority is to find 10 people that want to play at the same time… Then the second step is to divide them into 2 teams.
The first priority should be to find 10 players within a 3 rank spread. A bronze 1 should never be in match with any one higher than bronze 3… a bronze 3 should never be in a match with anyone higher than silver 2…

I am not sure if the player base would be big enough to accommodate this .

Yeah, sorry about that! :pleading_face:

I don’t support it, and yes that’s exactly how you learn in GoW, that’s how everyone else has learned before me, and after. Right up until GoW 4 where they added the sissy ranks. That’s exactly what it is.

If you play any game out there for the first time and are great at it right away it gets boring within weeks. Gears had a system where the time you put in, you were rewarded with skill and knowledge that could help you dominate.

I started in Gears 2, my K/D was a .4 and I climbed it up to a 1.0 in ranked Guardian. I was proud of that, then Gears 3 I was a solid 1.5-1.7. I could have been higher but I was going for YouTube clips over stats.

I hated GoW 4, so I only played it for about 2 months at the beginning and moved on, I heard it became great in its late life. Gears 5 suffers from the same problem. It’s going to take to long to get where there going because they are worried about a stupid ranking system instead of priority issues which getting the core mechanics right.

The ranking system is absolute waste of time, effort and resources when there isn’t a player base right now to begin with,

This reminds me a little of “when I was your age I walked barefoot to school, uphill, both ways” as the reason why a kid shouldn’t use a school bus :wink:

Sorry, but people don’t do that anymore. And people who get put up against much better players and get destroyed over and over, move on to other games. There are lots to choose from, and there is no longer anything unique about Gears, I feel…

So this “that’s how you learn and it builds character too” attitude simply isn’t reflective of most people. They choose the “or else” option, to move on…

Then they won’t stick with Gears anyway. The learning curve and skill the game offered is what set it apart from other games, it’s what a lot of the classic players fell in love with, if Gears was easy and noob friendly it’s multiplayer would be like that of Army of Two. Each to their own, the fact you started playing 2 years ago, you cannot relate to what I’m saying because you started when this system was in place.

Matchmaking on Gears 3 worked perfectly fine without it, I’d win some, lose some. And you’d get a game within 30 seconds. There ya go, no sissy system just play and get good, or quit and cry, up to the individual.

But most people in Gears 5 have just straight up quit because they nerfed the skill, so buh bye fan base! So as for a ranking system, yes still pointless .
