Yeah. I guess my view is, that players should have as much freedom and flexibility as possible including all characters to be able to build at least something, but with discount and fortification buffs etc being allocated to the engineer. I fully recognise that this also leads to some players using this freedom and flexibility unwisely, but that’s always a possibility. The key as I’ve always said, is that Horde is a team game. GOW is a team based cover-based shooter. It’s always played in a squad. The DBNO mechanic is proof of this.
The Hero system in itself has both given us some freedom, but also restricted us even more.
If a team wants to attempt Horde on the hardest difficulty with 4 Scouts and 1 Engineer, or with no Engineer at all, why shouldn’t they? These kinds of individual challenges should be encouraged. It’s a bit like that other forum thread about playing Horde without JD - it’s a nice change of scene and challenges players to break away from the usual meta. In my opinion the engineer should be no different and I support as much freedom for players to do what they want as possible.
I totally get that in public matchmaking (and this goes to any game) tends to lean toward people not communicating and therefore teamwork is much harder.
Also Horde in many ways is actually quite an intricate and complicated game. Good Horde players need to not only do the usual things well - movement, aim accurately etc, but they need to really understand the mechanics, how one skill card interacts with another, and how they synygise with others.
