Lmao “save face”. Wanna call me a shill while you’re at it?
I just can’t enough of it. I feel like every gear has their own talents and are bringing a unique play style to a PvE game, and the player puts their own twist on it, making things even more interesting.
The power and effectiveness level disparity between the all the characters PVE characters is my favorite part of the game.
I wish I could agree and feel the same. But then I remember I need to be on trishot duty because I’m not Kait, JD, or Baird and the inflated health is so ballooned that they become the meta because of their immense DPS.
That’s fair enough.
I feel that pigeon holing players and keeping them away from characters they like because of play styles they hate is a poor move.
Though, if people could have appropriate Ultimates that really felt like they were ultimate with more generic classes, I’d probably like it more.
Arcade horde mode solves hero system:
I absolutely loved reading this post.
I enjoy the game. It’s fun to play and I agree with all of your sentiments about the gamble being taken to make a giant leap over what has been done in the past.
What I draw great umbrage with, is the fact that on 30 October 2019 they announced that Matchmaking would be addressed for those (less than fortunate) individuals like myself who live in a country (Australia) that is under has matchmaking issues. It was called Phase 3 of the matchmaking and gave some of us the hope that we might have Arcade games that find within 20 minutes of hitting the search button, and that it would happen ‘over the next few weeks’,
We are now in May 2020. We are 7 months removed from that statement and apart from one line in a What’s Up on January, we are no closer to knowing WHEN this problem is going to be fixed.
The company has been great in communicating things like:
Ranked system — got its own post
Horde Updates — got their own post.
PvE players — getting attention in the upcoming months
But for those of us who have struggled to find a matchmaking game since the beginning of October 2019, we have a 7 month old post and one line of text in a what’s up from 5 months ago.
I think the developers are doing a great job at fixing everything people are identifying as ‘wrong’ with the game, but I just can’t give my full support behind them when there has been such a lack of communication about fixing something that actually prevents people from playing a portion of the game for over 6 months now… But in saying that I would never be toxic towards them, because they are trying their best. I know these things take time — just wish they were more open with us about them
Doesn’t even have to be that much to coexist with Hero Horde.
Just Vanilla Horde with Beginner - Insane modes, fabricator for weapons and some mutators alone would make me a happy camper personally.
I don’t even think the poisons need to go up to 2.5 considering that each difficulty already has a hidden enemy buff.
i think there’s a lot of niggling problems that really do add up and create an impression that TC are ‘inept’.
Little things like when joining a custom match you don’t get full ammo for your load out weapons ; when picking up ammo box it doesn’t refill both your weapons if one of them is not reloaded etc…
these are trivial issues in themselves but they all add up to highlight a lack of proper care.
Things have improved but would they have if people didn’t talk so much ‘trash’ about TC and the game ?
It is nice to disagree with a disagreement, it puts balance in the mix. Understanding is a three edge sword, your side, my side and the truth.
I believe in a Role system, where each and every character has their purpose (Role) in the game, it creates diversity, and most important of all, a sense of achievement once you have master a certain character. We all have different loves for the game, we all have our favourite character, our favourite style of play. I like the Engineer, their Role is to build and repair, and to that end, they should stick to what they are good at, what they are meant to do. Snipers snipe, now having a sniper go around building fortifications, because you say freedom is what is needed in the game, i say, you are talking out your ■■■■, ans do not understand the concept of Roles and purposes in the game. That said Sniper building is wasting their valuable contribution to the game, Snipers have raw power (or should), and they need to use that raw power, and let other characters use their abilities to thier maximum capabilities. Engineers build and repair, let them. Snipers snipe, Scouts collect Energy, Tanks absorb damage, so let these characters do their Role, as and for what they were meant to do.
Lack of teamwork, yes, i agree, you will get that, but you also mentioned players not doing their Role properly, and disrespecting the other players, this problem would not exist if the game was built in such a way it would be near impossible to actually play disrespectfully if Roles were done as i would like. It really is as simple as that. As for freedom of choice, the player gets a choice of what they want to play. The only real restrictions in this game are who you want to play.
Your opinion is your own, it can be respected, but personally, i think you are missing the point. Just like The Coalition has done so since the begining. Horde Roles/Classes/Heroes has yet to be created correctly, some of my ideas would help things along. Or best yet, get rid of all the Classes, Roles and Heroes and go back to Gears of War 3 Horde, without the building at all. problems solved.
In my personal opinion, if you are going to create a Class/Role/Hero system, do it right, or not at all.
If I fellow the logic of class :
Assault could buy claymore or antipersonnel mine
Sniper could buy trap for ambush
Tank could buy wall or cover type defense
Support could buy armor pack or medic pack box and ammo resupply
Sometime it’s good to have a middle because restricting everything is a bad idea some situation will break the idea it work both way too much freedom and it’s chaos
The boomshield? Bring it back.
Imagine if the boom shield had a notch/mount so you could still use a rifle, the claw, or a shotgun one handed without affecting recoil.
It did in gears 2
That was just a glitch that people used. It wasn’t actually implemented. They simply fired everything unsupported with one hand. If the foregrip of the gun was notched or mounted on the shield, it would make sense that the recoil would stay the same as if they were firing with two hands.
I know
So more like judgment
Judgment just had them hold their gun unsupported in one hand too. I’m thinking of something like this:

Before this goes sideways on me and people get the wrong impression, keep in mind that this would just be referring to the shield that the tank could buy as mentioned above. Not applying to the shield if they put it in PVP.
Yes. TC is very generous and totally not greedy because their prices “aren’t as bad” as other games. Sorry but you don’t get to use an argument where you point at others and say they are worse when we are criticizing TC’s uniquely ■■■■■■ Tour of Duty, microtransactions, the launch challenges, skins and content drip feed.
Nobody asked for TC to strip the content of the game to be drip fed over months and being chained to the hero system when most other games use loadouts and classes but able to use your own cosmetics. It took how long for TC to add characters and skin variations of characters WE SAW IN THE CAMPAIGN. They are there in the damn game. Also to add on to that for every player that didn’t decide to throw TC cash for skins and gameplay affecting classes, you could grind out these launch characters from the campaign where you force players to either play certain game modes or certain ways at such a ridiculous grind where they ask far more of my time and enjoyment than any grind I did in Gears 4 with lootboxes. The tour of duty system and their initial character challenges along with the initial dailies that forced me to play the game in ways I didn’t want to play made me actually wish for Gears 4 lootboxes. Lootboxes are ■■■■ and I would never defend them but that’s how ■■■■■■■ ■■■■ their character challenges, character and skin rollout has been.
Tour of Duty is a cool idea… that is perhaps one of the worst handled ways to progress through about its only plus is that there’s only 1 and through gameplay. But this isnt a free to play game or maybe Microsoft is treating it that way due to game pass being an option. The initial challenges before the changes forced me to play with characters I didn’t want to use or play modes I have zero interest in(Escape and this iteration of Horde to me are absolute borefests). So unlike Gears 4 with lootboxes, which allowed me to play the game HOW I WANTED TO PLAY because I like the have fun while getting cool stuff, Gears 5 says “nuh uh, you want anything? Play these game modes that you have tried and given chances to but despise to get anything.”
I agree there should be nuanced opinions and constructive criticism but maybe…just maybe…if you ■■■■ is absolutely dreadful and people absolutely despise your ■■■■■■■ new systems…maybe they are correct that something is wrong. Maybe not right in how to fix it but God damn don’t push this idea that TC can only do right with their changes and listening to feedback. Especially when they did an entire Gears 4 tuning campaign that actually felt good in comp settings to just throw it all out.
