Not sure why bullet damage should be more powerful. We have Retro for that. I was thinking maybe the magazine size could be smaller, lower. Or just keep it the same as normal Lancer with chainsaw. Chainsaw and Grenade Launcher are just for different purposes. I think it may replace or alternate with Hammerburst and Retro pickup spawns.
It can’t be a loadout weapon if shells have boomshot level damage, as everyone and their pet monkey-dog will be blowing everyone else up with it. That is, if it is even in PvP, Almost everyone keeps Gnasher and drops the Lancer anyway. If this thing has significantly less damage than the Boomshot it’ll be a secondary not a power weapon, if map-based.
In which case swapping a chainsaw for a few grenade shells and then using it as a normal lancer isn’t a drawback, because almost no one uses the chainsaw anyway. They always swap to Gnasher (or very rarely the Enforcer) for close up fights unless noob or troll.
Imagine you run out of grenade shells. You’ll be able to camp and use the normal ballistics ammo til you run out, wait for this thing to respawn, then you get both more shells AND more Lancer rounds. God help the other team if a hill is situated at or near this thing’s spawn.
Actually just found out how hard a Booshka hits. Direct kill instant death and nearly a one shot kill via splash damage. I’ve rescinded my previous statement about how I want the new launcher to work. There’s a video further down that shows how strong it was. I want nothing that powerful.
The main problem I have is that you get the scenario above. You still have a rifle once you are out of shells.
The point of having a low ammo count in the Boomshot is to stop people from just spamming high powered artillery rounds everywhere for easy kills. If this launcher fires shells with that powerlevel, you have a Gnasher, you have a normal AR, and you have a BFG that will decimate your opponents.
In Gears 4, you use up all Boomshot rounds? Til respawn you’re stuck with an admittedly (relatively) useful Snub or a close range Gnasher, and you can’t help a teammate farther away all that well.
Either way, either version of the Lancer will probably have the ballistics damage of the Lancer in Gears 4 Comp. Tuning, (I hope) Assuming that TC feels they hit a sweet spot in that regard. It depends on how their in-house and pro team testing phase goes (yet again pro players decide how Ranked comp weapons will deal damage). Personally I don’t mind comp. tuning. I enjoy it and despise Core.

That’s exactly how i see it. It’s almost 100% it will launch smoke grenades or flash grenades that STUN unlike smokes, that will be viable if it is selectable as a loadout upon spawning. There is no way i can imagine it would launch frags or explosives as that would be unbalanced and would make the boomshot/dropshot weapons obsolete.
I’m very confident about what i said above and am convinced that is the way it would work, Especially if you can select it in your pre-game loadout lobby.

Why does it need to be a direct hit? Grenades have a blast radius so it shouldn’t need a direct hit.
Yeah. Torque Bow and Booshka didn’t need direct hit either to kill.
I don´t think this will be a standard weapon. I think, it will be like the Retrolancer, a power weapon. It will be interesting too see. I don´t think it will be as powerfull as the Boomshot.
you have to fight to get the boomshot, actually hit the target, and you do not start with it, the difference is a mile wide

Holy crap…Booshka was insanely powerful. It didn’t require one but if you did get a direct hit it was a one shot kill. Gonna correct my post, but if it fires the same way, or similar, to the Booshka, I hope they nerf any splash damage.
I honestly thought it was really weak if you didn’t hit them directly. Forgot about that game and it’s mechanics. For good reason.

Nope. Edited my post after seeing Booshka in action. I understand its a grenade, but my main argument is still that a grenade launcher shouldn’t be a starting weapon if it’s grenade is strong, but if it is, there should be a major drawback or some kind of Achilles heel to it. I’m sure the designers know what they’re doing, just really against it being on the level of the Noobtube.
