Just random thoughts about Escape

Anyone else here who loves Escape and wishes the new maps are released more frequently?
It’s used to be every week, then every two weeks and now it’s once a month. I get that it’s wishful thinking but I’d love to see community maps featured as well. There are a few maps that are just as smart and complicated as the official ones.
On a side note- I’m not a big fan of this new trend of a “ crossover “ between Horde and Escape. Let’s be honest did we really need a Swarmak in Escape?

People wanted to have more bosses in Escape than just Wardens, Flocks(which are rather rare) and Stumps. So bringing some of the bigger enemies in seems like a natural progression to me.

That said… I do not find the Swarmak encounter to be much fun. You just end up hiding in a small room instead of properly trying to fight it and get behind it(besides someone as Kait using cloak to move behind the Swarmak) because of constant Juvie, Popper and Drone/Grenadier Elite spawns that make it practically impossible to go behind the Swarmak while it is also shooting players.

Having three weeks between Escape maps is far too long though. Even knowing they take time to make, I do not find a three week wait between different ones to be great when I mostly play them for a few days on the first week now.

3 weeks =/= 1 month

I agree. I feel like I’m 100 yrs old by the time a new map is released.
As for more bosses… better to get a smart boss than a huge, dumb Dinosaur who just shoots and often gets stuck on the stairs

Escape was the reason for still play gears 5, but now I’m so boring with the long wait

I feel like escape is the future of Gears and should be getting much more attention from TC to promote this mode. Like horde was when GOW2 was released. Maps need to be released on weekly bases. Community made maps should be promoted and encouraged and perhaps the best ones can be voted on and put into the rotation somehow.
Escape needs to be cleaned up first. Fix the glitches/cheats and reset leaderboards.
Fix the terrible RNG with the spawns and for the love of Marcus’s tomatoes “Why are the ammo box’s and weapons need to spawn in different places?”
Fix the Ironman or change it so we don’t have to suffer through that Snacher screen!

Leaderboards don’t matter anymore. The rewards are a joke and as proven by TC they don’t wanna adress the COG-Tag-duplicate-cheater.

This is the thread that was promptly closed : Any chance of FIXING the cog tag glitch TC?

And this is a quote from their trello-faq:

Is this all you’re working on? There are issues not listed here.
There are a lot of things we are working on - this board will not show everything. We will show the big issues players are talking about and facing, along with the things that we can share progress and information on.

If you try to talk about issues the threads get closed and apparently ppl cheating for a better Leaderboard-position isn’t important to TC. Only affects PvE after all…

Joke of a company.

When I first started playing this game I would only touch horde, but after awhile I started hopping into escape lobbies to learn the mode, and it’s come to the point where I play escape almost exclusively. I think it’s an amazing game mode that will hopefully return in the next installment. It would be nice if they could release maps more often, but if anything they’ll just be spread out even more sadly.

My theory is that they may be putting less effort into escape because so few people are playing it. I very rarely have more than two pages of custom lobbies available when I get online, and 3/4 of those are surge and clock runs.

I reckon people played Escape more before it got stale in part due to limited tile sets which all look different but don’t play that differently from one another(with a few exceptions in the Barracks tile set). And they don’t look that inspiring or you don’t get much time to look at the finer details.

Well, that and before the grinders took it over.

People are always asking for Gears 5 to have some more horror elements, and if I’m being honest some of these tiles are a little creepy at times. The beginning of the second act in The Corruption (I believe I’m thinking of the correct map) with the huge number of reject spawns. That tile had some creepy vibes. I think there are a lot of cool little details to look at in some hives. Much more interesting than horde.

Ok I got a little off topic lol. But I’m pretty sure the biggest reason I find so few lobbies is the hive release schedule. With no new hives, most people aren’t going to be happy just replaying the old hives over and over. I am, but that’s because I haven’t even played them enough to get all of my bonus cards yet. I really think if they cranked out a hive every two weeks even, that could be enough to potentially keep people playing.

By playing on public after the new hive release, for weeks I was finding matches within 1 minute or less.
I’m sure many love to play on public rather than stumbling upon strict lobbies roles, for instance, who is going to join level 18+, cards level 5/6, “host is not carrying”, “no noobs”, or when the host always kicks people.

I once kicked a pure soul player after an x-friend just kept nagging about his friend wants to joins, and I still feel guilty for doing so…

I played public matches until TC removed the master filter from quick play. Now I have to wade through all of the custom lobbies and hopefully get one with a host who’s not insane sadly.

In regards to kicking people, I hate doing it. Even if it’s a re-up 2 with a level 7 Kait I find myself hesitating lol. I eventually have to convince myself they’ll be dead weight and do it, but I still don’t take pleasure in it. I’ve thankfully never had to kick someone for a friend to join. And if I did you best believe they’d be getting an apology from me lol.

Thumbs up buddy!

Kicking out somebody is against my code also even if he\she is a low level, that’s why I avoid hosting unless necessary.

When I hosted, I’ve gained so many friend by accepting low levels/ranks, and surprisingly they became experts and reached level 18 in no time. You don’t know when time would come and no body is around, then you find these guys beside you playing…

I don’t typically socialize with the people I play with, but when I do, you’re right, you wind up playing with some good players. I bumped into @RezRoller09 a couple times in escape customs, and we’ve been playing a lot lately. He’s definitely not inexperienced, but you get the point lol. He’s just one of a good handful.

The only times I see myself kicking for escape is if the lobby is explicitly titled “score run”. I still feel bad about it, but a low level character just won’t cut it for that sort of game. If I kick mid game, it’s because someone is making mistakes, and I’m trying to teach them, but they don’t listen and keep making the same mistakes over and over again. I don’t tolerate someone being unwilling to listen to advice.

I’m kinda worried with that they will do with Escape in OP5. I feel it’s a huge breath of fresh air and you have to play the game with completely different tactics to any other game mode. I do feel they could at least go back to every other week for a map but that doesn’t seem likely now.

Decided to take a break from my class work to play a little escape, and this is what I saw. I don’t know if it’s due to the time of day or what, but that’s very few people… there’s at least more than just surge and clock runs I guess.

This weekend I saw similar amounts and Horde lobbies were only 1 page too at different times of the day. The population in this game is definitely diminishing rapidly.
I also see it in multiplayer when I do my dailies. This morning I rejoined the same match 4 times, when I wanted to play another mode and map to get the challenge done quick. That doesn’t happen with a healthy population.

I thought we are getting new hive map this week… I guess I was wrong :expressionless:
I’m going back to my cave.

Yes.

Escape definitely needed a Swarmak.

Really? I hadn’t considered that. If there’s some good ones out there then that might be a great idea. Since TC seems to be lagging on Escape maps nowadays, why not curate the best community ones and feature them for us? Would be a good opportunity to bring attention to more people in the PvE community and not just the eSports or PvP streamers as well.

I feel like Escape has so much potential. It could even be its own game. It already feels strange that this mode, unlike anything ever seen in Gears, is tacked onto Gears 5. Many successful games now are just focusing on one thing and doing it well. They just need to figure out the best way to promote it and fine tune the grind and character progression, work on different tiles/scenery, enemy variety, etc., and you’ll get people hooked.
