JD’s Gambit and Grenade Satchel. How many people use them?

When we have horde daily with -90% bleed and -90% explosive damage, I use Custom Lancer GL, Lancer GL Mastery, Good Kill, Gambit and Grenade Satchel. I would buy 8 Shock Grenades from Fabricator for 500 power and plant 7-8 of them on the ground, between waves.

I know this is Horde thread, but I sometimes use Grenade Satchel in Escape too, if a hive has 3+ or more Frag Grenades, many explosive ammo boxes.

That’s an interesting idea. Never thought to try that.

I personally don’t think I’d use demo with anything but frags though, as you can do the same thing with slugger really, minus the plants.

In Escape I would use Grenade Satchel instead of Confirmed Kill, but Gambit? Nah. I never use that.

I use those cards on occasion, as I mentioned in another post lol. It really is situational at best but it boils down to preference. Only wish Slugger got those cards too, you’d have a pretty dope Grenadier class in the works.

@Omen_LP made a post somewhere, having tried Frags.

Simply put, it wasn’t very effective on Master once enemies got 2.0x HP. I could see it working if a daily horde had no More Health modifier like recently.

Grenade satchel can be good with every character most certainly, it’s just that the two cards together don’t seem viable with Demo considering the other cards on offer.

Gambit needs to be changed or given to another class. Grenade pouch is probably ok as is I’d say.

Never bothered with them when they came out. I just leveled them up and left the Demo class at that. I don’t even know what they do now that I think of it lol

Oh thats been going on since the start and it still annoys me. I have never needed 2 lockers and my go to weapons were 2 GLS (incase I died with one) boom shot, dropshot and a torque bow for the funs lol. I just say no to Demos asking for another locker lol.

I personally think the biggest problem is execution rules. Without that mod, running both of these cards could be insanely powerful, and something I’d definitely use.

If grenades weren’t so terrible in Horde in Gears 5, I would have considered using the grenade capacity on Demo. Gambit, no, unless it was Overload and easy to plant some grenades in spawns. Escape, only extra grenades. You almost never need to plant more than two of them.

The only remotely useful grenade imo is shocks after wave 10, having used them to some effect with Slugger as I leveled it on Jingle Juvies(especially during the Scion waves as it was both damaging them to at least some degree and preventing them from shooting everyone up), throwing a whole bunch of them around. Incendiaries are more limitedly effective against bigger enemies such as Wardens and bosses. And even then, for the shock grenades I would find their utility limited because apparently every single Drone enemy ever has to go down every single time.

Fun fact, I also never really liked having extra grenade plants outside of speedruns in Gears 4 either because it seemed redundant and not particularly effective as they often just got triggered by some dumb Juvie or Tracker rushing ahead of everything else around. Throwing them was more interesting as well.

You don’t remember me planting Shocks all over the map in normal Inconceivable / Frenzy games as Soldier class? It was very useful when knew the spawning points.

Which does not mean I had any interest or enjoyment in doing such. Plus Gears 4 probably had a different tuning for enemies where shocks would not down them most of the time and grenades were way more effective to use.

I use both cards on regular horde 12 or 50 Master and is very good, but I would like they stop making constant changes or nerfs or whatever, leave it alone for the god’s sake. Is the only thing I’m Interested and also they fix the bad performance with random stuttering.

I like these cards in theory but without a grenade damage/radius card or perk they’re lackluster. These were a poor trade for Explosive Weapons Capacity.

As others have said, Slugger should get Satchel and Gambit, even if Demolitions keep them.

In the subject of Slugger, I hold the promo classes in disdain because they were attached to characters outside of the Gears universe BUT if they’re going to be ingame they really need to be fleshed out and playable, even if it’s reusing existing cards.

I think its very effective, I used today in River map . Our fabricator was inside the Cafe and every 20 seconds between waves I set 7 traps (lvl 5 skill card) on bridge and first 10 wave hunters and elite drones got DBNO with only one grenades impact and from the second floor of Cafe I just throw an other grenade, shoot boomshot or GL ( no chance to miss =)for multiple kill. After 10th wave grenade traps lost some effect and before waves start buying on other 7 grenades became necessary but with bleeding effect which damages 810 per second (lvl 5) my ultimate charged more quickly.

No. To be fair I haven’t experimented yet. But the idea just seems very “meh”.

As demo I’ve been using:

Razor hail
Custom boom shot
Spotter support
Officers prerogative
Confirmed kill

I just rotate 4 boomshots and all is well.

I enjoyed soldier’s frag setup waaaaay more thsn what i saw here with demo after latest changes…

Especially when you added active reload boost… Shock followed by active dropshot, embar, etc…

And resupply… New granade every 15s…

I haven’t used them so far, since I’ve felt there are more relevant cards to use. I might try it sometime, lately I’ve been thinking about trying out different playstyles with JD.

Edit: May as well ask now as it’s tangentially on topic. I noticed that JD:s card for recoil reduction for GL also applies to retro lancer, is this also true for the card that buffs damage and actives for the GL? Someone who knows?

Unless the engineer has a low level Overclock card, I can’t understand why two lockers are needed. I’ve never needed two. One level 3-4 Locker is all I need and even then level 4 is good cos it’s faster at replenishing ammo so I don’t really need the 4th slot. I just need 2 Boomshots and a Dropshot.

Lancer GL? Freedom is for ■■■■■■■. Viva la communism!

The grenade cards should be given to Sarah.

I’d prefer if they created a proper full-on Grenadier class with a range of skill cards which cover all grenades. I had a few ideas a while back which are in another thread.
