You can blame that on today’s gamers obsession with cosmetics. I swear people care more about cosmetics than actual game changing content nowadays.
Im quite certain that players who aren’t obsessed with cosmetics would rather have optional cosmetic microtransactions over having to pay for a season pass to get actual game changing post launch content.
You can safely ignore the store and rest easy in knowing nothing in there is going to change the way you play because that type of content is all free.
I wouldn’t. So your certainty is moot. I would rather have a Season Pass that also gives unlockable cosmetic content than have MT’s in my PAID game.
Yeah, that’s where this is heading unfortunately. It’s gonna be a subscription model to play their IPs with microtransactions for added comfort. You’ll be paying $15 per month to play their exclusives. That’s $180 a year not including microtransactions.
I wouldn’t be surprised if next console gen is their last, that is if Gamepass ends up being extremely fruitful for them and they end up fumbling out of the gate in terms of console sales like they did this gen.
Gamepass is already available on PC and I believe they’ve somewhat added XBL functionality to the Nintendo Switch with cross platform games like Minecraft, or at least mentioned it earlier this year. So the idea of MS ditching the whole console marketplace and turning the Xbox brand into one of the main “Netflix for games” service across various platforms isn’t too far fetched.
If we’ve learned anything from this year’s E3, is that a ton of corporations are scrambling to do just that, with MS/Xbox leading the charge.
“You brought this on yourselves!”
- Queen Myrrah.
Relevant, no?
Maybe. Or you just used it as an opportunity to bring another quote of your Queen in.
Not like everyone’s just blindly hating. I at least try to justify my negative stuff if I criticize something.
Both. An opportunity that couldn’t be missed.
I’m just hoping this all comes out in the wash over the next few months.
I definitely the lack of characters and maps needs reviewing ASAP. The whole Tour of Duty System is a git excessive, I think I preferred the whole pack system. Still can’t believe to this day Delta Squad weren’t starting Characters?
Gear Packs were clearly better than this system. They just locked all the starter characters out, to make it easier on them and to bank $ off it later. The Tour lasts 3 months, and is packed with sprays, marks and clone banners. Most the store skins, like Islander Lahni and Cab Driver Mac would be Gear Pack skins in GOW4, and I’d already own them.
They’re locking all the cool stuff behind the $-only store, like the Boltok Execution. It’s really sad, the game’s microtransactions are being treated like a F2P game. TC was extremely disingenuous about the whole “moving away from loot boxes to be more consumer-friendly”. There were articles talking about them “paving the way in the gaming industry” in this regard. LMAO @ that.
Also, even though I can now see my re-up in the menus, it’s so lame compared to GOW4, there’s no nicely done icon or anything, just a generic roman numeral under my level. How hard is it to do a re-up icon? So many aspects of the game feel so rushed.
Cosmetics used to be unlockable content through playing the game and have shifted to being something you buy with more money. Not too bizarre to believe people would get upset over having to pay for things that previously used to be content you unlocked by doing what you paid money for: to play the game.
The more people undermine the significance of this the easier it is to push the idea that MTX are okay as long as they are cosmetics only. It’s not okay.
Wouldn’t be surprised if TC took the 343 route and took user content and turned into update content like the latter did with Forge maps for Halo 5. Would you be content with having someone else’s creation count as free new content over having the developer take their time and create something that isn’t blatantly recycled or not their work?
And that is why i wont do it, i prefer a physical copy of any game.
I don’t think this game is smooth and consistent at all. That’s the main issue, not bunch of colorful weapon skins.
I really don’t get why these practises would be ok for f2p game. It really doesn’t make a difference, f2p doesn’t justify it. If anything, a quality campaign does. But it doesn’t either.
Personally i feel the new system is a slap in the face to the Gears fan. Basically they said internally …
- Oh they hated those Gears pack because of the RNJ, alright, lets give them pay for what you want but lets jack the price so high and make it basically impossible to “play to unlock” … mwahahaha
Thats pretty much it. Honestly i missed very few skins in Gears 4 and you know what i hated the most? The horde card system. Without this i feel the Gears pack without ever had been an issue, i would have never had to waste scrap on Horde cards and buy anything than “special packs”. I would had craft the base character i want all the time and thats it. Well there was the black steel stuff but thats a different story…
How hard is it to put stuff with a reasonable price. Like 5$ a character skin, 2$ max the rest. Why put a character skin + gun set at freaking 25$ (Kait APsomething) , thats outrageous (CAD$)
For the peoples mentioning the “hero” characters will be free and such. Look, Horde is something i do only because achievements … THATS IT. I wouldn’t play this without it. I don’t care for hero characters, just gimme my Sam in MP with the same freaking lines as Gears 4 and ill be happy… lol, no need to design a power up for her for me.
And yes i prefered the old system… yes i would rather pay even up to 50$ a season pass but have maps, characters, executions etc etc, rather than having the maps for free but all the other stuff at an outrageous price.
The problem with Gears 4 is they wanted the butter and the butter’s money. They put a season pass and then they added all the rest behind a pay wall either by coins or by real money (esports) and they gave NOTHING pretty much to the season pass owners in exclusivty, we even lost our exclusive characters not far down the road as they became craftable.
The current problem with Gears 5 is ill pay for a character and next week there will be another one, and the week after another one, and down the road if i want it all, i will down 250$ if not more by the end of the first year. Yeah… i rather take that 50$ one shot payment and get everything huh.
Im just tired of the MT model and how it became exploitiv e. Its not just Xbox Studio/Microsoft, its almost every company now. Its bad !!
And what i find the most insulting is they don’t even wait a bit before selling stuff. Those current characters skin like Driver Mac and Highlander Lahni, they were already designed and ready on release. Its clearly stuff ripped from the game to ask for more money. Could they not wait for “operation 2” to start selling stuff? Let us build some irons in game or something?
Hell i wasn’t even aware i was burning down my iron at first when refreshing objectives. I just tough once you completed one, you could refresh to get a new one. I lost a fair share in the first few days before realizing that. Give us time to realize how the game work before selling stuff.
Iron should be obtainable after every game you play, in small quantities maybe but still. Lets say 25 irons a win… take 4 wins to get 100, character is 1000. That mean 40 WINS, thats not nothing… but it reward playing and playing well.
This is the best response yet.
Totally agree. Those store prices are almost acceptable in a free to play game. However, I bought 3 Ultimate Editions for my family and the store prices are unacceptable for a full priced game, especially one as broken as Gears 5. As for Rod saying “we’re learning as we go” ? So am I, Gears 6 will not be bought day one, if ever. I’ll wait to see what other egregious BS the can think of before supporting them.
Will be awesome when those characters comes around!
Why do we have to have 228382 characters at launch? Im still busy leveling up the ones we have, are you done with all of them allready?
Facts. I still don’t know what i got for buying the $100 version of this game, aside from a few characters, bloodsprays, and boosts. Should have just paid $2 for it cause i could care less about that stuff lmao.
And i don’t agree with the game being smooth and consistent, combat is very iffy
After that ~3GB update yesterday I was getting “updated” just as frequently as I did with Gears of 4.
Every other shotgun battle ended with a “kill trade” because I’m still getting into games with nothing but players in that country just south of the US whose pings tend to rapidly bounce between 50-1200ms.
