TDM was recently taken out of Ranked rotation, because according to TC they didn’t feel it was competitive or in a good place right now.
I can see why this is, having experienced team-mates who die double digits in single rounds: A good group of 3-4 players could lose a match while they have high kills and very low deaths, simply because 1-2 players are hemmorhaging spawns. This is a problem in a few ways:
-good players being frustrated because they feel they did nothing wrong
-ganging up on the “bad” player and blaming them for the loss, sometimes getting on chat to insult them
-trolls will intentionally throw because they think it’s funny
I’ve been thinking about how to fix this problem, since I don’t have a 5-stack to run with these days and attempting to solo KoTH is more aneurysm-inducing than trying to do TDM was. Here is what I came up with:
-each player has an individual pool of 4 respawns per round
-when a player runs out of spawns, they’re unable to play
-an alive player could make a choice to “spend” one of their own spawns to bring an “out” player in, to make a push for example
This way, those players who are maybe not-so-good or intentionally trolling can’t sink the whole team, while still giving everyone a fair shot at playing. The spawn-donating aspect could bring a little strategy, maybe especially to the E-sports scene.
