I want to complain about the maps again

Remember when GoW 2 had almost thirty maps? And how only a small handful were rehashed from GoW1? And how all but three or four of those maps were really good?

I know you can’t expect every single map to come out at release so I’m not disappointed that we don’t have 29 maps in Gears 5. I am VERY disappointed the game only launched with seven, SEVEN, and that at this point we have…what, ten? I think only dam, foundation, and reclaimed have made it into ranked? Either way it’s not enough to keep gameplay fresh and the maps are already stale.

I mean just LOOK at this list!

Avalanche
Blood Drive
Day One
Hail
Jacinto
Pavillion
River
Ruins
Security
Stasis
Gridlock
Canals
Mansion
Subway
Tyro Station
Flood
Gold Rush
Fuel Station
Courtyard
Grindyard
Underhill
Fuel Depot
Allfathers Garden
Memorial
Sanctuary
Nowhere
War Machine
Highway
Way Station

Agreed! Same maps over and over is so freaking boring!! I’d be happy with some rehashes to play something other than icebound, training grounds, bunker, and district EVERY TIME I PLAY.

Eh… There’s a few problems with your argument.

I believe past titles like GOW2, 3 and 4 all had 10 launch maps. Additional maps came about later at varying rates, so naming all the maps from old games is unfair.

I’d agree that TC have been lazy in that of the 12 launch maps the ratio of brand new maps to old ones is 7-5, with the old ones being closed off from public play so shrunk the options to players even more.

EDIT:
Just reread your post, and I misread your initial comment about not expecting 29 maps at launch, so apologies for missing that!

It’s just that your post is a little unclear what you expect in numbers and while you said one thing you go on to list lots of old maps so I wasn’t sure what you were getting at. Past games had 10 (?) launch maps I think, so fewer than GOW5, but GOW5 has more duplicated maps which is just lazy (I wouldn’t even call them remakes per se). TC should have made all maps playable in public games from the start.

Well I did very specifically say that I don’t expect all of the maps to be released when the game launches. It’s perhaps an unfair parallel to name them all, you’re probably right. I actually think those games launched with 11? Could be 10? Not a big difference. Gears 2 launched with the flashback pack too though, which was five GoW1 maps, so really it launched with 15 or 16 available in public versus.

Regardless, the point we all agree on is that 7 is nowhere near enough. And at this point the GoW4 maps that were included would do absolutely nothing to fix that for me. I want brand new maps, or AT LEAST maps that are from 3 or earlier. Like checkout is one of my favorite maps ever but I definitely do not need to play it again. But say Pavilion or Trenches or Thrashball or even Jacinto, those would be fine. Just something fresh!

I’ve heard maps are coming next week with operation 2. I don’t know what a realistic expectation for number of maps is, but I’m hoping for 8, would be happy with 6. Honestly anything less than 6 is not good enough. In GoW4 they released 2 maps per month every month for a year. And they started with 10 or 11. So I really don’t think that’s that unrealistic.

TBH, I dont dislike the maps from this game, in fact I like them a lot.

What I dont like tho, is playing on the same 4 every day… it gets boring after a few hours.

At this point I dont care if they release brand new maps or remakes from the original trilogy, I just want more variety to the list.

Other than Asylum every other G5 map is really designed around shooting rifles across wide open areas, from elevated, easy to defend positions. Wide open areas with bare minimum of cover, frequently not sufficient for any useful protection (think little boxes on Bunker, on the slopes down from the top towards the grenade spawns or the pitiful ‘cover’ around the sniper spawn rings on Exibit).

Someone picking up the sniper on the swarm side of Vasgar has, with needing less than 5-7 steps back and forth, direct line of sight to FIVE OUT OF THE SIX KOTH RINGS on that map!!!

Especially annoying when the game ignores votes and picks whatever map it feels like. I’ve seem that happen twice yesterday and I am not sure why all of a sudden it has been happening

Well that’s true for sure. The maps are good. And when they announced they were only launching with seven maps a lot of people, myself included, said it didn’t matter if they were good. And they are. But three months later, it matters, because we are bored.

Indeed. I agree, there was so much original and high quality maps added to Gears 2 it’s my favourite collection of all the games. I said so in an old topic of mine:

River, Day One, Flood, Fuel Station. Even Highway was decent, not a single bad map in my opinion.

The bar was set so high, but TC doesn’t have it in them to create decent maps it seems.

Agreed

I hope we get some good maps from Gears 2 in the next operation, I think it’s Time for some Gears 2 maps, in Gears 4 we got so many gears 3 maps, now it’s time for some
River
Day One
Jacinto
Pavilion
Ruinas
Mansion
Tyro Station
Nowhere
Avalancha
Gridlock
Subway

Gears of War 2 had the best maps in the series! Aside from the duds like Fuel Station, Hail, Ruins, Stasis, and Day One, the rest were top notch! Dark Corners, especially. Oh my… what I would give to play on those seven maps again that does not include include going back to Gears of War 2, lol.

Anyways…

I’m sure Gears 5 will finish with a strong lineup of maps, but it’s inexcusable to launch with seven maps. Hell, this game all across the board had a pathetic amount of content at launch… aside from banners and blood sprays

I’d love to play ruins and river again on a new game. Grindyard and mansion would be good for me as well.

If I were a mod here, I would ban you and every single person constantly complaining about this topic. This has been said 100000000000 times already and more eloquently.

I want more maps too. They’re coming in a few days. Relax.

Problem is, we don’t know how many. The amount is going to be extremely important. It’s also closer to two weeks away yet, so a bit more than a “few days” to be fair (December 11th).

Of course, quality > quantity, but imagine if only 2 maps came out? That’d get stale fast in 3 months.

I think it has been an interesting discussion so far, with some neat suggestions.

I’m personally hoping we get 3 new maps and one remake from gears 2.

Not industrial style maps either, something like from the azura ruins, new hope, the ice forest etc. I think they’d make some awesome map locations.

Wishful thinking I know, but it’d be awesome.

So I previously said none of the maps in Gears 2 sucked but Day One…sucked. I HATED that map. It would need some pretty big changes to be playable in this game I think, as in multiple ways to assault someone camping where mortar and torque/hod spawned.

You’re right about the GoW3 maps though. We got too many of them in GoW4 and something from GoW2 would actually feel fresh. Personally I think any of the Dark Corners DLC maps would work. All fathers Garden was probably my favorite, nowhere was great, Highway, memorial was excellent. Gimme some of those!

Let’s not forget that the Gears 5 maps are boring. Well, most’em are.

Of all the problems in this game, maps are one of the least important imo. I think playing GOWJ and it’s 4 maps thousands of times conditioned me to not care about map quantity.

I tend to think most people don’t actually care all that much when you take into account that in every Gears game, 3 or 4 maps almost always prevail in voting. In Gears 2 it was Blood Drive, Jacinto, and River. In Gears 3 it was Checkout, Azura, and Gridlock. In 4 it was Foundation, Reclaimed, Blood Drive and Checkout.

My point still stands. Two weeks isn’t a long time.

New hope and ice forest would be great.

So can I be upset about this yet? They just released the What’s Up for Operation 2 and there are TWO new multiplayer maps. I’m not counting mode specific ones like the three FFA maps and the two maps for 2v2 gnashers. Niche maps like that don’t count. Strictly speaking for public versus we got a brand new map in Allfathers Arena, which to their credit looks really cool and I like the idea of the cover changing match to match. Wish it was round to round but…whatever. As a whole though I think that’s really interesting. That said, I hope that TC doesn’t just think that the fact that there are 27 combinations of cover is the same thing as 27 new maps. And then the other one is Lift. LIFT. Which we had TWICE in Gears of War 4. It’s a fine enough map but not one I was really clamoring to play again.

I’m not mad. Just disappointed.
