You should check out GGZII on youtube and watch his videos, hes actively spent months putting real work into the game while some people think posting condescending replies here is the equivalent. I agree with many, if not all points he actively makes about what the game needs. Some people will dismiss his points, and I’ve even received some of that from people on here who take pride in making other people look stupid without ever explaining why they disagree with your point. Hopefully, we see some open mindedness from people regarding change…I can remember months ago when removing aim assist was talked about in a dev stream, people in chat FREAKED OUT. Now almost everyone is happy with the change. We gotta stop hating on stuff before we try it and see if it improves the game, one step at a time.
this goes through the gears community which is very very toxic so don’t listen to them
Nobody on this forum really hates Gears 5, we complain to let TC hear what’s wrong in the game… and usually it’s hard for them to keep track of us, even with TC_Andius.
This community is pretty chill and usually just trying to help TC which is hard because most people use Twitter and all that bullcrap, so we’re left in the dust unchecked except for one community manager who can’t read every forum that’s posted.
We usually feel like true fans since we use the forums, kinda considering other people aren’t really fans. Which isn’t always case, but majority of people on the other sites give off this feeling.
TC is taking steps in the right direction, I’m actually excited to see if they fix the gnasher back to its old ways after Op4 gets out, I’d have a stroke! (Not really) if they actually got the gnasher back to its glory days where aiming was rewarding.
But yeah… you can tell where we all come from, just fans who want to help TC and help eachother. (Something Gears 5 lacks because of toxic people)
@iB2fResH, you realise gears of war’s loadout system is different then Cod, especially how you swap guns & grenades.
Gears 5 is a solid game at its core, it just had too many key issues at launch that are taking too long to fix.
Ranking System - The Ranking system sucked in Gears 4 and it still sucked in Gears 5. Overly complex for no apparent reason. People just want something simple. They wanna be rewarded for playing well and for winning. Period. 9 months in and it still hasn’t been fixed. Completely unacceptable. I have high hopes for the new Ranking system. Hopefully TC nails it and can pull some players back in.
Maps - The game launched with too few maps, months later they acknowledge the issue and say they will place the focus back on Versus maps. This makes zero sense and honestly there is no excuse for this. PVP and Horde are the bread and butter of Gears, this should have never changed and should have always remained a primary focus. Tiles should have always been secondary or not existed to begin with. TC clearly bit off more than they could chew. The game should have launched with 10+ maps, then with each operation there should have been 2 new maps. 1 brand new and 1 remake. Nobody would have complained about this. Problem is the game launched with 7, then 3 months later we got 1 new map. 6 months in, 2 new maps total added to Gears 5. Unacceptable. I understand we got some FFA maps as well, but these don’t take precedence over the main modes of Gears.
Hero System - While this is good on paper it just changed too many fundamental core aspects that Gears players have been used to. People dont wanna be restricted to certain characters and classes. They want to use any character they want for any class they want, like it’s always been since Gears 2. Gears 4 Horde was very good, all they needed to do was build off of that. New maps, new enemies, new classes, and some quality of life improvements. That’s it. And for the record I actually like the Hero mode, the issue is they didn’t launch with enough characters and they’ve taken way too long to release more. I’m not saying the work load isn’t legit, but the output simply isn’t enough. If they had launched with say 20 characters, then I don’t think anyone would have complained about waiting 3 months for new characters.
Aim Adhesion - This is another area of Gears that was fine but TC decided to change. Magnetism and Friction from Gears 2-4 was enough, Aim Adhesion isn’t needed for a CQC game like Gears. Now here we are 9 months later and it’s getting removed. Make a universal PVP tuning, plain and simple. Stop splitting the community and creating multiple tunings for different modes.
6 Shot Gnasher - Yet another staple of Gears that didn’t need to be changed. Ryan claimed it was for skill, but I don’t see how it matters. 6 or 8 you still need skill to utilize what you have. Well the community has spoken and 8 Shot Gnasher is returning with Op 4.
So as you can see, even though Gears 5 is a good game, it has too many key issues that some people just aren’t willing to overlook. I myself have had a lot of fun with this game, but I can’t blame others if they feel different. Some people might only play Ranked, or only play Horde. For these people I fully understand their frustrations.
Now with that being said, I can also make a post of all the great improvements Gears 5 has brought to the series, such as gameplay, quality of life, new modes, content unlocking, etc. But I’ve done that in the past already so there’s no point in repeating it. TC needs to stop talking and promising and start delivering. With TC under new management I hope to see these changes come to life very soon starting with Operation 4.
This is make or break time.
Wall of text inbound.
Key reason I “hate” on the game (wrong word, just disappointed really in comparison to prior entries) is the lack of identity and the goal of the game is to take your time and if you don’t have the time or patience, give them money.
ToD - Great. The problem is it can be finished in a months time WITHOUT spending iron for new challenges and only playing sometimes 30 minutes a day. I have friends who pay and are through it in a couple weeks. Daily Challenges serve no purpose at that point until a quarter year later. So what’s to aim for other than purchasing store items or boosting skill cards?
Grouped Challenges - Great, but you get nothing (stars, but ultimately, nothing) for finishing some of the challenges in a group. You need to finish all in a group to get one reward and usually it comes down to one challenge that is way “harder” or more extensive than the other challenges. So you really only have to aim for that challenge while the others come. Why not have rewards for completing so many challenges in total? Every 10 you get another reward but still keep the group rewards.
Limited characters - Outright ridiculous. We didn’t ask for a locked hero system, but it’s what we got. So we have a limited roster because of it. Just to put it into perspective of how bad this is…if Dom isn’t added in Operation 4, OG Delta squad (Marcus, Dom, Baird, Cole) won’t be in the game 1 year after launch. That is LAUGHABLE to me and absolutely absurd to think of for a first party game that has a backlog of characters that have been available to play at launch of every title for over a decade now.
Limited maps - I really don’t get it. Again this is just a head scratcher. You have a plethora of maps that can be revamped that have NOT been remade yet. AND IT DOESNT EVEN NEED TO BE A RESKIN. Just take a map design and remake it to fit the game. Does it take time to develop? I’m sure it does, but you have assets you can carry over and place on top of old map designs to create a new map using an old layout.
Skill cards - Not a fan from their intro in GoW4. Though it is nice to play the game in a way that you can “enhance” your gameplay with extra buffs and abilities from these skills, that is not how the devs made the cards or more head on, they didn’t make the difficulties in a way that skills give you an upper hand. They made it such that Cards are a requirement to be at the same level as enemies at even middle of the road difficulties…and the only way to get them is hours of boosting or days upon days of playing PvE. It means that PvE is never going to be Completely available to everyone simply because they don’t play enough to become formidable.
Store - by all means have a store…but give us a chance to earn something from it. Locking content behind a paywall is always a Nuisance and I understand that’s today’s gaming platform is mtx out the anus hole to get whales to give you thousands for literally changing the color of a skin you’ve already had made for months. Every few Characters or weapon sets just have a challenge similar to griffin from GoW4. Do this task over the course of the next month and it’s yours, if you don’t want to deal with it or it times out you can buy them from the store.
Releasing with bugs - Launch was a disaster. Took 3 days to finish the campaign in coop because you couldn’t even get on the servers and when you did you would run into an impassible glitch that stopped you in your tracks and required a refresh only to be met by the servers are unavailable. Every, and I mean EVERY update of substance put into this game has had a glaring bug released with it that then takes another month to fix. Ranked still hasn’t been fixed (and I don’t care, just scrap ranked entirely and I’ll be happy) and tunings always seem to have an unexpected result from their expectation.
Overall…it just feels like playing a 70% complete game that is getting Stuff added to make it The complete experience we expected at launch. While other games with the live service model I play seem 90%+ complete and content after launch actually feels like an addition rather than filling the gaps of what wasn’t there at launch.
You mean no maps at all?
I’m most frustrated by this game’s inconsistency moreso a lack of content. Players being kicked every match, all the bugs/glitches, that sort of thing. The lack of content will eventually be fixed, all the randomness and inconsistent garbage won’t.
Its because we see the huge potential of Gears of War and it seems to not be going in the direction we were hoping
Gears 5 was decent, but compared to gears 123 its just not that good. I actually prefer gears 4 multiplayer its definitely the best of the series. I feel like TC hasn’t captured the dark and gritty world of gears their art style reminds me of fortnite.
Gears didn’t really get good imo til 3 MP wise, too much lag, too many exploits, too many cheaters, that sort of thing. Gears always had great maps and was fun, but my god did GOW2 make me rage back in the day.
This is coming from someone that hated GOW3 though (the rifle fire was hell in that game) so you can take it with a grain of salt.
I also think the idea that Gears should necessarily be a dark and depressing game is wrong, I mean the most popular maps in the franchise are typically pretty sunny IIRC. Also can’t forget that Gears 3 was anything but dark, so Epic sorta went away from it themselves.
Nostalgia is always better.
I’ve had more fun with gears 5 than any other gears game. I personally love Gears 5 horde. Escape was a great underrated mode that is perfect for players like myself. ToD is a great idea but can be made better.
Only issue is ranked. I cannot wait for the overhaul. I’m diamond in escalation and TDM yet can’t get out of bronze 2 in Gridiron even with 12 wins a row. It’s completely broken.
Believe it or not, I think my time With overrun on judgement was serious fun, and maybe the most fun I’ve had with a game, although Escape and trying to get top 1% is pretty up there too.
Everyone says there isn’t enough content in 5, I get it. But there was literally nothing to do in 4 at this stage in the game. 3 didn’t even have a ranked system so competitive play didn’t really exist.
It runs smooth and TC does listen to us, so I can’t complain too much.
That’s part of the problem. Why is It 5 was not something relatively close to GoW4 at the end of its life cycle to start? They took MANY steps backwards in terms of a starting point Instead of building off the end state of 4. Hero system can be pointed to as they wanted every character to have a unique skill setup. But it doesn’t mean you should be limited to something like 20% of the content that was available to players at the START of GoW4.
Yeah I think it was because of the hero system. It’s not like the game doesn’t make money. Idk why they reach for the stars before they realize they don’t have the staff to do it.
They admitted this for maps for gears 4, and now hero abilities for gears 5.
If they started out with more characters and did release 2 characters (1 hero + 1 villain) a month the game would have been praised.
That being said, they did release two game modes and weekly hives for OP1 and biweekly hives for the rest. The cards that come with the hero’s are all well done. So while character wise 5 was lacking up front, other aspects of the game I felt they did well.
