How does this even happen?

I ran past at least 4 enemies that I should have picked up with the Retro. Am I dumb or is there a secret to the Retro-charge?

No, the Retro charge is super dodgy in Gears 5. I can literally be running right up to an enemy and miss it by a pixel when the blade literally touched the enemy, or be running straight into it(Juvies mostly) but not get contact. Just more TC Gears stuff, unless the Retro charge has always been so bad with its registration.

The thing is, up until that point the charge worked just fine. A lot better than I remembered it. But I mostly used it on single Sires. Maybe the registration can’t handle crowds and short-wires.

Very frustrating, failed the run because of this nonsense.

I’ve no idea. I found it equally annoying playing the class using the Retro on Ambush and sometimes be straight hitting a Juvie but not getting the Retro execution and getting downed which makes me look stupid. I’ve come to a point where I just wait for them to swipe, miss and move backwards to charge at them, finding it to be much more reliable. May have something to do with enemies moving forwards towards you or being on cover resulting in inconsistencies such as that.

Also reminds me I find it dumb how the general damage healthpool is also tied to venom damage which imo should be a separate source of it.

To spread fear and push the enemies outside so that we could kill them?

Have you even played Paduk before? They would have all been in Fear at that point.

The Warden died when I executed the Sire, check the killfeed.

You have 30 seconds once the gate starts closing and there’s a timer on the top left. I had enough time left.

I get your point and yes, the retro lancer’s charge has issues with the hit detection. I have seen this before.
