How does TC listen to the community? the intro video of the new OP4 says they have done this

This is purposely in a new thread, about feedback the next sentence is 1 example!

The new Op brags about listening more than ever to the community… then Ranked TDM is removed… how did this ever happen? it has lead to a lot of dissapointed gamers see this thread (Main thread for TDM removal from ranked)

This would seem they are not understanding the community at all. (or they are not able to make us understand why)

So this post is about how do TC listen to the community?!

We know there is a thing called the “silent majority”, also if it works then people do not feedback on the positive (when was the last time you saw a number of posts with hell yeah this feature is great)

I would have hope Gears, as it collects stats, it would show the numbers from people playing each game modes, Then week on week they could compare and retrospect on what works and what does not work.

Then they need to make it clear why they made a change (i.e. we have numbers, you can seem them is you want, which indicate X, Y, and Z), Especially if it will impact a large portion of the player base.

I was shocked that Node 0 said these forums where neglected in favor of Reddit or other sources, I think this was mentioned on the developer cast when he left.

TBH, I see a lot of passionate players wanting things but i have no idea how TC make up their minds on what is best.

I keep saying it but Devs for games like Rainbow Six SIege are great at this. At the end of every season they release their Diamond-tier stats for what characters were chosen, how often and how often those chosen characters win/lose in matches.

And they use this transparent information to help justify the changes they make to the playerbase; and it helps smooth over the “bad” changes because it makes more sense and the playerbase is more understanding.

If TC said “Well we only want to have 4 Ranked modes for any given season, we’ll be adding Ranked FFA and Gridiron, and according to these stats (insert nonexistent stats) Ranked TDM and Guardian have the smallest percentage of players compared to 2v2 Gnashers and KOTH. So therefore we’ll be swapping them out for Gridiron and FFA in the new season.”

If they were that open and transparent about their changes and why they make them, it’d smooth over much better with everyone. Because at least we’d know why it changed.

(FYI this isn’t what they said I was just making ■■■■ up).

But just removing TDM with no explanation leads to the community asking “WHY!?” and getting upset, rather than having an explanation that’s valid and clearcut.

to me it feels like common sense, in how to handle stakeholders (ps love the response)

Does it look like TC has this?

They have done the exact opposite and repeatedly mention that it was one of the most popular modes. If you read in between the lines, it was removed because the E-sports community doesn’t like it for whatever reason.

There is a good chance it never comes back because TC doesn’t care what their player base wants.

Your whinging to get a listing. Finaly TC have listened to community and made improvements to Gears . Im very Happy with Opertion 4 chages.

There’s been a thread also questioning whether TC are listening, or to what, and I’ve made a point there already as well. They’re definitely on the right track and an improvement over the past with the involvement of several TC members, but it’s not quite there yet.

And it’s been stated multiple times the TDM removal from Ranked is simply temporary until the mode’s reworked into a more suitable format for competitive matches that amongst other things is intended to make it more difficult for one person to waste all the team’s respawns. Maybe the removal wasn’t entirely necessary but I’m not gonna speak on that. Also don’t forget that they removed Escalation from Ranked which was the eSports mode in Gears 4 and also still seemed to be in Gears 5. Yet it’s not in Ranked playlists any longer.

good for you dude

The TDM threads are evolving. But nonetheless another TDM thread.

TDM is not being removed, it’s temporary. It’ll be back, when it’s actually a competitive and decent game type. It’s not even the slightest bit fun to me where it’s at currently.

where does it say this?

PS the TDM was an example,

we could say about the movement (it was awesome in op 3),

They have never actually said that TDM is coming back, though. Every time it is discussed they always use various vague qualifiers when discussing its return. At the same time, they have repeatedly said it was among the most popular ranked modes.

If it is not fun to do you then don’t play it. Your opinion on it does mean it isn’t fun or competitive for others. I think KOTH is drawn out and boring and that GridIron is stupid, but I don’t think it should be removed from Ranked as long as it has the player base to support it.

Makes total sense

(this is hard to articulate)

ok, but the point is not just about TDM, its about how they listen,

the following are an example (do not get hung up on them)

  • Im excited about the new ranking system, but its OP3 was ok, I assumed the issue was with the player-base size
  • can you make matchmaking more obvious?
  • can we sort out pings?
  • is there anything you can do about the lag compensation?
  • thanks for changes in the store, but could that wait for a better player experience?

there was no questionnaire or feedback mechanism to capture this, There may be stats?

(do not get me wrong, I have enjoyed changes such as gears5 at launch, the game was slow and they speed this up, which was epic.)

If we take TDM as the example

load up the game,

  • a video, we have made changes to the maps, ranking, skins, etc… no mention to TDM
  • no mention on the news tab, where you press F3 on PC
  • release notes are 104 pages, of which its not clear at a glance that only several are todo with the OP4 release (no mention on the first page, most people do not read these)

goto page 5 (https://www.gears5.com/gears-5-ranked) - who did they listen to? who wanted this?

“we’ve altered the list of Ranked modes to provide what we believe will be the best competitive and matchmaking experience for all Ranked players” … “Team Deathmatch & Escalation are being removed from Ranked”

I’m a Ranked player, I would have voted to keep it (you may find previous posts where I suggested why it was needed),

BTW, there is no guarantee of it coming back or any justification to help anyone to understand why. (I hope you are correct in that it will be back soon), but that is what the other TDM thread is for, not this one.

I am genuinely interested in how they listen, (I am passionate about this game, as with anyone who has time to post here)

Maybe they can do what Fornite does. In-game it pops up with a simple question every so often (hey do you like this gun, or do you like feature X?),

forums may not the best way. (I know the majority of my gears friends do not use the forum),

TBH, I liked how @Buster_McTunder worded it, this was spot on.

I hope this is seen as being more constructive than negative,

Yeah neither does TC. (At least until recently in minor parts).

I wish they’d do something like that but hiding stuff that may spawn ■■■■■■■■ stuff like the game is dead bla bla
But really having TC show what’s the player base preferences isn’t a bad thing

Well idk in Siege they show percentages not number of players. So instead of 1,000 players played X, etc. It’s this character is chosen 30% of the time. And of that 30% they win in 70% of matches played.
