Manned turrets SUCKED. No one wants to be forced to use something that has NOTHING to do with their class in order to even complete a horde on Insane. Seriously that ■■■■ was boring as hell.
Technically manned turrets were not a requirement for Horde on Insane or Inconceivable in Gears 4. Dropshots, Torque Bows for a Heavy, EMBAR, Longshot and Markza for a Sniper, everyone else just chose whatever, though the most powerful weapons were common picks, and then there was the occasional Shock Grenade Soldier or Rifle Soldier, but those weren’t that commonly picked. I’ve done plenty of decoy only matches in 4 Horde on Insane/Incon but they were fairly drawn out and not the most interesting towards the later waves. But difficult? Not at all. Still, manned turrets only were not actually required to do Insane, neither was Sentry spam(which a few engineers never realized, unfortunately). Could’ve tried it but judging by your post you never did so I can’t really do more than mention it is a thing that worked(and probably still works if you can put a decent team together).
Problem is yeah maybe it was balanced for you “experts” but us plebs had to live with that meta game. Everyone expected you to jump on the manned turrets towards the later waves.
I stopped playing before the Inconceivable update.
Well, yeah. It is fair to consider that not everyone would have been able to do this. So I see why you’d make this point. Just thought I’d mention it if you had the proper abilities and/or weapons, it was certainly possible to not use only manned turrets. I can certainly see how that would quickly get boring.
But I personally never found sitting on manned turrets or spamming a Salvo as a Heavy very interesting so I somewhat had to resort to alternatives, them being the Dropshot and Torque Bow, two weapons which were severely nerfed in Gears 5 at that. Call it learning through having no other options that were interesting me.
Not too sure about the biggest whiners, but anyway. 4 and 5 pale into insignificance when measured against original and the still.unmatched let alone surpassed king of co-op Horde 2.0.
All TC had to do was replicate that with 3.0. but no, they downgraded it massively.
I had really hoped they would have listen for the latest version, but somehow they made it worse.
I knew we were in trouble when I learned of only 4 Boss types (3.0) in a game that has a minimum of 5 Boss encounters and even worse, as if it could be, one of them was a helicopter!! That still pees me off. Gears is about fighting monsters for goodness sake!
The only thing I like more in it is the enemy variety and while still not a patch on 2.0, it is superior to Gears 4
I pray we get the Horde we want with 5.0 but let’s be honest at this point it seems highly unlikely.
I think Horde pop is more fun than what we have at the moment.
I play at least one match of Horde on Gears 3 each weekend, join me, you will have more fun than 4 and 5’ Hordes combined.
P.S. Sorry about all the numbers in the post!
Instead were mounting a tri shot from a weapons lockers. Nothings changed. They just made us take an extra step -.-
I think the solution is simple - just limit Turrets so that only one can be built at any one time.
In GOW4 they later balanced it in terms of damage output, cost to build and the speed and cost to repair and reload. It became less effective. Maybe TC balaced it in terms of this too, then you’d have a Turret which was useful but wouldn’t be overpowered.
If anything, GOW4 Horde was very reliant on Sentries. Even on normal non-speedruns, by the end I rarely saw Turrets being built - it was always Barriers, Weapon Lockers and lots of Sentries.
Good, that you can speak for us all, when you say, that nobody wants them. I liked them and from what I heard some other player miss them too. As an engineer and for some soldiers the turrets were a good way to kill some enemies. That you dont use the manned turret, when you play as a expert or as a sniper, well that should be clear.
And what EvilJoshy said: It´s true. You haven´t manned turrets anymore, but now you need one or two weapons lockers full of Tri-Shots for the randoms (COG, Marcus, Fahz, Sarah, Emile, etc.).
Well, good work to removing the turrets!
So then don’t pick an engineer class lmao it’s not that hard
