Horde ...overall ... is terrible

I like the new Horde and this whining is typical from the community every time they change it a little.

Learn more than one character so if yours is taken you can play your alt, have fun with it. If you are absolutely incapable of playing anything else then host your own game.

Running around with 4 other people exactly like you is just stupid and boring.

And there is no meta as you can complete all 50 with any setup if you guys are good with your character. I’ve done it without an engineer or Jack in the group before, it just takes some skill which makes it fun.

What they did is increase the difficulty of Horde and all of you noobs can’t deal without having your hands held throughout the fight so come here to whine that you don’t like it.

Toughen up and learn how to play then you may enjoy the new Horde a bit more.

Glad you are having fun. I think the Horde community are very split though.
From what I read the players disliking it are more plentiful than the supporters.

I’m a, or rather was definitely a Horde over mp player. I think this version is the weakest by some margin.

We absolutely did not need heroes in Horde. Not once over the tens of thousands of waves and matches all through 1.0,2.0,survival and 3.0 (which up to the latest was the worst version) did I ever hear someone say “what this is missing is heroes and super powers”

As for changing “a little” I think it has changed a bit more than that.

I agree with you about learning and by extension levelling up other characters, that does make sense.

Re the difficulty, I’m sure you have played other Hordes on Insane and/or with mutators, they are plenty difficult enough.

If anyone thinks having Fail the match if all downed as the second skill level,is a good idea and just a little change then I can’t take them or their views seriously (pardon the pun  ) that bit is not aimed at you btw.

I like Gears 5 Horde, despite having some issues with it. I have no idea where I’d place it in a ranking over the entire series.

I think tying characters to classes was a bad idea, although I don’t know if that’s because it inherently is, or if it’s just because there aren’t enough characters right now, and because some characters in the current meta are just clearly superior to others (ie. Del vs. Kat, Fahz vs. Nearly Anyone)

I also think it’s really foolish that the game doesn’t matchmake people based on what their default character is - so you’ll get matched as a Del with a group that already has a Del, for example.

But aside from that stuff, and some smaller issues, I’m still having a good time.

You generalizing that everyone playing this version of Horde being a noob who couldn’t find their own backside in the dark with a map, flashlight and written instructions is probably one of the worst things I’ve ever read on these forums. Players aren’t complaining because they’re bad at the Horde, they are because they want to play their favorite character or characters you like in a game/franchise where the personalities of the characters have always been a central part of it, and because it restricts player choice. You don’t want to have duplicate characters? Great! Just tell those in your lobby not to duplicate. But don’t force it on everyone.

And before you have a go at me, I’ve done more than enough Insane and Incon matches on Gears 4 even with just decoys spread throughout the field, and a few matches on Insane and Inconceivable in 5 with little problems even with very little support from Del(eg barriers, decoys and Shock Sentries only). Have not bothered playing Master a lot due to length of matches and even worse artificial sense of difficulty than Insane/Incon. But I know how to handle myself and I’d bet multiple players on here also do.

Its got nothing to do with difficulties…if anything there is to many on 5…it seperates the player base already…pubs is nonsense…custom going same way…heroes totally imbalanced and nobody really wants or enjoys them…doing cards for every character is tedious n boring…only 2 power players to use…u talk about skill…let the team start as their preferred character…with same starter weapons…unlock the fabricator so peeps can play preferred weapons!!..this horde is boring n restrictive…maps are designed for verses aswell…glad ur enjoying it though🤔

Good point

I think the people that like the new horde and the folk that don’t are on the same page about this. Better to play with bots until they add some sort of “classic” mode. Hope they do eventually.

I’m not really looking for a classic mode. I like Horde in Gears 5 just fine, as I said. The character/class thing just restricts who you can play as character-wise, and can sometimes make it a pain in the neck to find and keep a group.

Virtually any game that starts with a “character conflict” inevitably ends with the person who didn’t get the character they wanted immediately quitting, leaving you down a person for the entire round.

I think it would have been better received if they had a lot more characters at launch, giving each class more variety. But between the lack of variety, and the fact that certain characters are just terrible in the current meta, you’re realistically left with 5-6 good characters to choose from for an entire team: Del, JD, Kait, Jack, and take your pick of Marcus/Gear for an “ideal” 5th.

This doesn’t bother me that much - I play Del 90% of the time, and while he’s not my favourite character, I generally don’t care which skin I’m running around as - but as I said, it makes putting together matches restrictive and annoying.

Aside from that, I’m having fun with it.

I couldn’t agree with your statement more. You should be able to take any character you want but if everybody has the same abilities, what’s the point? If that were the case you would have five JD’s all standing in back with weapons lockers shooting off their Lancer gl’s. Of course you’d have to have somebody to build weapons lockers, LOL

That’s why I like no duplicates cause that’s what we did in gears 4. The essentials(Engineer+Scout) and everyone else was the top dmg dealer. I do believe characters and classes should not be locked.

Well even in gears 4 it was boring even without the classes I think the problem is the game being uncooked in general

It’s a different approach, but terrible? No. Restricting characters per class does stink but I think once more and more characters are added it will get better.

I do like the Hero system and having unique Ultimates. It adds variety to the game in the long run.

I like what they did with the Power splitting it across the team evenly.

I like the new Perk system.

I like the modifiers that allow you to customize each Horde session.

I like that they got rid of the Auto Killers aka manned turrets.

I like the concept of the Power Taps.

I like the enemy variety, it’s way better than 4. Still could use some more tho.

I like the boss waves especially the mid ones.

I like that base cards are unlocked by your leveling up instead of pure RNG.

Overall I think it’s really good with the exception of restricting character skins although I understand why.

Maybe they can introduce a classic Horde mode that way all parties are pleased.

A lot of people seem to ignore the fact they did do some things right in this horde. But the problems feel like they outweigh the improvements lol

I couldn’t agree more with your statement.

So where the hell are the characters your talking about that they are adding… let me look … hmmm f’n nowhere, 2 generic freaking cogs… a Deebee… a Warden and Ramm. Who cares about these multiplayer characters… where is delta squad, Dizzy or Dizzy’s daughters, Sam, some form of Hoffman and Bernedette, Barrack, Tai, and freaking Jace. TC is so dumb for thinking Gears fans wanted Gearwatch/ Overgear.

They could have had the same affect in the game by just having the abilities as the first come first serve option, then players could pick their characters and pick their skill and everyone would have been a lot happier. The restrictiveness of Judgement was frowned apon so much so that it was a dark mark on the reputation of Gears. Meh, TC could fix this, but they are not going to because of the money aspects in micro transactions which is also tied to E-sports promotions. Someone said earlier go back and play Gears 3 then come back and compare… I have and I would continue to use Gears 5 horde for a coster for my drink while I play a much better vesion of horde in Gears of War 3. Thanks Rod Fergusson for pimping out a beloved franchise that you tattooed on your body for restrictive/microtransaction heavy game modes. I really hope they fix this mistake, smh.

I agree with your statement.

I must say that the most Points you like are the reason, why I dont like this Horde mode. In my opinion the new hero System have nothing to do with an teamplayer mode.

That they rid of the manned turrets, I hate this! It was cool to use them as an engineer or soldier in 4.

The enemie variety is extremly boring in 5. In 4…well maybe I havent it registrated so far. But they have to add Locust like tickers, corpser, boomer and and and again.

And then there are still these many bugs.

The gears community always ■■■■■ and moan about the new horde. You guys said it sucked in 4 also but now it was glorious. When Gears 6 horde comes out you will whine that it’s not as good as 5.

The Gears community is seriously the biggest whiners in all of gaming.

One positive change they made is removing the manned turrets. No one want to level their class all day to not use their power in the last 30 waves or so and just jump on a turret made by an engineer. That made Gears 4 so zzzzzzzzzzzz I’d way rather play Gears 5 horde and this game is a broken mess.

This seems true, how could anyone find Gears 4 horde fun?
