I think the issue raise here is that players feel that having spent real money on a skin, they want to be able to choose it in as many game modes as possible including Horde. And to be fair, if characters cost as much as they did in GOW4 I think it’s a fair point. I was under the impression that all characters were just that - cosmetics but if they plan to mix up skills and abilities then that changes things a bit.
I’ve played almost exclusively Horde since 2008. Each time playing that version until the next game came out, except Judgement which I bailed on pretty quickly. I could do that because of the replay ability of Horde had so many options . I could try different areas on the maps, try different weapons, use different characters, etc. The possibilities were pretty endless. I’ve played 1000’s of matches, but if Horde 4.0 is gonna be locking up my character, class and essentially my weapon choice, it becomes Judgement’s Cole spamming a Booshka every match. Extremely repetitive and boring. I will not be sticking around for that.
Why when I posted the exact same thread nobody replied and the few seemed to not care at all?
-SIGH-
I agree , mate
Well… it wasn’t EXACTLY the same, and the context is also different.
Your post was about Escape.
Since then, we’re getting some rumblings which indicate that this may be an issue regarding Horde as well.
I guess with Escape, it’s semi-cannon - so is loosely based around actual in-universe events, so the idea of locking in some characters makes some level of sense (even if it’s not ideal) whereas Horde is not.
I’d like some more info,b4 the revealing of horde,if possible please,
I can’t believe I came into this thread and there are some people trying to defend this feature. Horde has been around since 2008 and the whole entire premise of the game mode was “Pick your favorite COG and survive with your friends”. If I’m being forced to be somebody I don’t wanna be then I’m not gonna play it. Call me petty or a baby that wants to play with his dressed up doll or whatever but once again we’re going backwards here and some are just simply okay with it. I don’t know if it’s to be contrarion but you have to see why people are upset by this potential inclusion.
Don’t worry. It looks to be a mix of Judgment AND Calladoody. That one achievement insinuates there is also a Perk system too.
When it comes to Horde I think I can get past the “playing as a character when I play as a class,” as while I would prefer to play as a character that I want to play with, that’s not something that is going to be a deal breaker for me when it comes to Horde. I’ve enjoyed Horde mode and I liked the chaotic nature of it, ect - My main concern for Horde will be what the “Ultimate Abilities” are going to be that come with each class. On one hand, it sounds interesting that we’ll have those, and yet on another they could … could mind you …. take away from the enjoyment of the mode b/c it doesn’t necessarily fit with the mode. I didn’t care for the MP in Judgment either but it wasn’t b/c of the class system - I loved Over run and enjoyed it. - To me it will be about the experience of playing the mode. While yes it would be great and preferable to play as a character I want to play and not be limited thanks to classes ect, not a deal breaker; will be about gameplay to me.
not when they want you to purchase character packs only to be used in VS there is a lot of people who play
strictly Horde and it would suck only to use 5 characters for the next 2 years after being able to run with multiple characters in 4
If this is true I’m disappointed in TC. Moving forward in every game-type but Horde. I’d like to have my preferred character if I’m running 50-wave speedruns
I don’t like being forced to play as specific character to be a particular class. It wont stop me from playing but it leaves a bad taste…
So much for “play how YOU want to play”…
Horde has always been “pick whoever and survive”, even with the class system it was “pick whoever”, the only game that did not have that was the OverRun/survival modes im Judgement which were NOT horde.
If TC wanted to add in OverRun next to horde that is one thing but you can’t ruin horde or be rumored to ruin it and not expect a huge backlash.
Would it suck to play as the same 5 characters for the next 2/3 years? After the customisation Gears 4 had, yes.
Does it stop me from playing Horde 4.0? Absolutely not. Would it make me want to play it less? No. Which is my point.
I think it’s silly that the customisation of a character stops a player playing a mode. I don’t think it stopped people in 2006 in Gears 1, and I don’t think it should stop people now.
Should go back to CE where people could only customise the colours of their spartan.
I wonder what would happen if there were only 2 models allowed in VS, the Drone and Kait? People would go berserk.
Me personally, I love my Wrestler Oscar skin. If that doesn’t make a comeback in 5 I will be mad.
[quote=“Circa_Darkrage, post:73, topic:20853, full:true”] I don’t think it stopped people in 2006 in Gears 1, and I don’t think it should stop people now.

It didn’t stop people because there was nothing to compare it to. We have customization now. It’s not 2006 anymore. People like to customize and tinker to their whim. Suddenly stripping that away sucks.
Things have moved on. You can’t use an argument saying we were lucky only having a few skins in Gears. We didn’t know any different.
On that logic we would never move on.
The rabbit is out of the hat, and he ain’t going back in.
What we should all do is unite on the fact that someone either at TC or affiliated to TC would be aware of our concerns… ALL they have to do is post on the thread what there intentions are, would take minutes.
Then we could get out heads around what their vision is…it not.
There’ll probably be dozens of character skin variants. Even if we only get to choose from 5 to 6 characters.
And I appreciate that, but what I’m saying is that shouldn’t stop people playing a game mode, as it already seems it has on some people in this thread.
It does suck, as I have already said, but it shouldn’t stop a person playing a game.
Maybe using Gears 1 was a poor example to use (it was a poor example to use), But people play a game for the gameplay value. All of us wouldn’t be playing this franchise if it wasn’t for the gameplay. I think some people have forgot that.
Yes, it does suck. But it shouldn’t take away from gameplay. Plenty of people enjoyed Overrun, despite the character locking, and despite the overall game itself.
Overrun was a new game type though while Horde is already an established mode. We should expect to choose our character how we wish in Horde because that’s how it’s been from the start up until recently.
Let’s take a wait and see approach to how this plays out - we’ll find out for sure in a couple of weeks give or take…and if it that way, well so be it. To me that is not as much of a deal breaker as much as if the gameplay for Horde blew, and honestly I think they realize how much of us enjoy Horde and I am hopeful the gameplay will be enjoyable, because that in the end is what is the main factor. If the gameplay blows, no one will play the game regardless of if you can choose a character or not.
