That’s what I’m saying. It doesn’t make sense to be forced to play as a specific character for horde only yet we can choose to play as whomever we want for Versus. TC will be dealing with a lot of complaints if they force us to play as specific characters for horde only. I guarantee it.
Oh, they can.
Personally, I don’t see the big issue here.
You play the mode because of the gameplay, not because you can’t play as a certain character. It’s like saying I’m not going to play the mode because I can’t play as Arnold Schwarznegger.
It seems a little silly, to be honest.
See in my perfect world, mix a character loadout with the Class system in passive ways.
So say…you’re playing a Scout as Marcus.
Scout = Scout class skills, etc.
Marcus = Player deals 10% more damage with Rifles.
Sort of small passive boosts for each character, split from the Class. Of course characters should be cosmetic only–but I think if TC wants the characters to be an integral part of the mode that’s the way to do it and make everyone happy.
I believe the implication is that other characters (which represent classes) can be added as dlc and won’t count towards that achievement.
If you look at one of the other achievements it specifically lists the horde characters (hence my reasoning).
Yes and no I feel.
I am one of those strictly Horde players and have loved all versions except that mess that was Judgement. Locked characters and weapons are a deal breaker for me. Escape already was disappointing, don’t screw up my HORDE!! TC can’t be THAT dumb right? lol I guess we’ll be finding out in a little over a week…
I wouldn’t say restricting classes to specific characters is a mistake made in Judgment. It certainly decreases the need for specific MP characters, and items in Supply (if different character versions lie in there).
Overrun was well received as a mode. Survival maybe not as much, although I did enjoy that mode.
It’s mind-blowing to think that people wont play a game mode because of what character skin they are wearing. I’m a little concerned about the industry if this is what some people have become. No wonder gaming companies make money of these skins.
Works for escape and it leaving it out of horde would actually do escape mode justice by really offering a different experience.
I hate the idea of these character classes in horde, but I’m also against having these abilities too. But if one had to go it’s def. being restricted to characters having specific classes. That sounds limiting and lame.

I think that is a little too simplistic and disingenuous.
You may have an attachment to a certain character or prefer their voice lines.
it Doesn’t seem like they understand what makes horde mode so good back in gears 3. Enemy variation. Survival.uncomplicated.non limiting. Play with your fav. Characters, choose any weapons and survive.
You do wonder if TC are changing some things because THEY CAN not because it is beneficial to the game. I firmly believe Rod wants his Gears to be his lasting legacy and better than Cliffs…never happening.
I do have an attachment to different characters, of course.
But not being able to play as Benjamin Carmine in Horde 4.0 is not going to make me want to play it less. If I could only play as JD in 4.0, it wouldn’t make me want to play the mode less, which is what some people are implying in this thread.
Again fair enough
The best thing Horders can do is come back to 2.0. They would be welcomed with lambent infested open arms.
I would like more enemy variety though.
Bring the Lambent back, I don’t particularly care about lore problems in Horde. More enemy variety would’ve helped 3.0, especially in the first year.
The beauty of older Horde was I could get 4 friends together and we could each play the way we wanted. Use any character, use any weapon without being restricted to classes. No damage bonuses. A lancer was a lancer and we were all even against a bunch of different enemies. I miss the “Boooooom”, “Griiiind”, just using a shield as defense. The one thing I liked about Gears 4 was the ability to move the base around with the Fabricator. But now if this is implying I have to play a certain way, with a certain character over and over and over again. NOPE,NOPE, NOPE.
Judgment added lots of new ideas while making some mistakes …
gow 5 just looks like a bunch of mistakes with some crappy additions …
maybe there are certain characters for the classes. i hope they dont screw this up
I remember when I thought Gears 4 was originally like that and I almost didn’t buy it because of that. What an uneccessary and stupid change. Favorite part about horde since 2 was using different characters and hearing their lines, especially Carmine. Negatives are really starting to pile up for this game imo.
