Horde 4.0 sounds like it's repeating a mistake Judgement did

Agreed. I was expecting so much more. 4.0 sounds like 3.0 with Ults, taps and the same problems judgement had because of Heros

If they want to do the whole hero shooter thing. They are gunna have to make a ton of original Ults for returning characters,

If this system means with lose out on characters like Dom Anya and other dead Legacy characters.

I’ll be really upset

If them bring each character back and character cards are equipable on different characters that would be fine

Dead by day light comes to mind.you have universal cards and character exclusive cards, yet you can unlock them for use on any character when you reach a ranks to mix and match with other killers to make the ultimate build. Characters and their special feature (or ultimate) stays the same but the ability cards are transferable

There is alot they could do with the ultimate system IF they are willing to get creative and over the top. Because making every character with a different ult would not be to hard. Think about it.

The standard COG Soldier Could cover multiple skins

Female Cog
Male Cog
Onyx Gaurd
Helmetless male/female Cog
V Day Cog
V day medic
And so on

UIR Soldier covers
Like another 6 Skins

Anya
Then you have all her skins for her class

Dom

Adam

Oscar

And so on. If you count how many different Named characters there are minus skin variation this is totally doable, then each new character will bring even more abilty cards to add to the pool and mix and match. The possibilites then would be endless it would turn 4.0 completely around, and all this to escape too and… My god

Is this what TC have planed I wonder seeing the the character packs seeing different character exclusive ultimates point to that conclusion. Fingers crossed

Why do I feel and think like this ?

So from my understanding, you will still have a class to choose with 4 abilities you chose. However, each character has a special OP ability. Now it sounds like it might be alright, but I DON’T LIKE TO BE FORCED TO PLAY CHARACTERS I DESPISE!!! (JD and Del). Furthermore, I loved 3.0 and want to know why The Coalition is trying to fix something that was never broken? And I know this is a horde post but I feel like the abilities are going to ruin multiplayer. It’s not the gears system we all love, and they are making Gears 5 like 343’s halo 5 and they are going to suffer from it. I would be happy however if you could play horde 3.0 settings and same goes for multiplayer if there is a classic core list.

As long as they keep rolling out characters on a regular basis with fresh new ultimates. I can deal with it. If its like just 10. Theres a problem

Im talking like basically all the well known characters dead and alive

There really is not that many named characterss in the series really

Ultimates can be whatever suits the character. A bulky guy like Tai or Oscar or the Onyx Guard could be a Tank or Offense type that have have a physical based ultimate. Maybe one of the shotguns and a boltok, and their Ultimate is a straight bum rush in one direction, that downs an enemy and triggers a beatdown execution if there’s one in front of the player, and gives damage immunity while they are doing it.

There were 27 different characters for horde 3.0; that’s including the RtJ skins and separating COG and UIR into male and female.

So 21 named characters.

If they introduced generic COG and UIR, they could be multi use (within the same match) characters, but they could also have variations that cover different classes.

I count:

Marcus
Dom
Cole
Baird
Anya
Sam
Dizzy
Tai
Bernie
Griffin
JD
Del
Kait
Oscar
Reyna
Hoffman
Minh
Anthony
Benjamin
Clayton
Gary
El-P
Killer Mike
(23)

V-Day COG Male
V-Day COG Female
E-Day COG Male
E-Day COG Female
UIR Male
UIR Female
NCOG Marine Male
NCOG Marine Female

I guess with the unnamed ones it depends on how you perceive them as different characters and which are variants of another. The Medics are basically recoloured V-Day COG’s. The V-Day and E-Day COG’s are very similar.

The NCOG ones have different armour but is it different enough to constitute a different character to the E-Day COG’s?

I went by all of the male and female COG’s and UIR’s having the same voices/lines within their respective factions /genders; basically generic with different armor and helmet combinations.

Also should have said 21 named characters (from canon).

This guy…right…here.

Dude needs to be in as a character. Been asking for years.

He looks like Cable from Deadpool.

Right.

So if you think of this the chances of getting these characters seems extremely high. It’s no like over watch or R6S where they need tp create these characters. They already exist. They just need to balance and create roles cards and ultimates that fit their personalities. That is totaly achievable thing

Yeah. Pad Salton from the comics. Served with Hoff at Anvil Gate and was part of Marcus’s squad along with Carlos in the later Pendulum Wars, Dom and Tai after Eday. He was at Anvil gate during the time of Gears 3. Perfect time tio introduce him into the game as it was (then at least) what was intended to be the end of the Gears series.

Hard to say. At a guess, as it’s a different game with new features and enemies, then new dialogue will need to be recorded even for characters from GOW4 so an element of it depends.on voice actors signing on, or a suitable replacement being found. With some characters like Griffin there may be additional details in their contracts over using a model that is of the voice actor’s likeness or something.

I heard that character models can’t just be copied and pasted over from GOW4 to GOW5. Apparently each model needs to be animated and created from scratch and that it takes a surprising amount of time to create each character skin.

So it’s not gauranteed we will get all of the GOW4 characters back in GOW5. I reckon we’ll get the majority, plus some older returning ones (Paduk for example).

I mean she does belong in jail.

The dude from RAAM’s Shadow (Barrick?) never got added to Gears 4. I think it was missing several old characters. Would be nice to get them all this time around.

So, I´ve played Horde yesterday at Gamescom.
I was able to play till round 11 or 12 with four other players, of which one was staff I believe (One player was host and was stopping the game and restarting when our time was up).

If anybody played the techtest, then you will know how shooting and movement feels like in Gears 5.
One thing I noticed, was that the enemies were kinda bullet spongy. A normal Swarm grenadier seemed to take quite some damage before dying. They appeared to take in way more damage than in Gears 4 on normal difficulty. Non-infected DB´s are back and as in Gears 4, the first few waves were only DBs. Similiar make-up to Gears 4 so far. The Pouncers are back too but they seem to be actually not as bullet spongy as in Gears 4. Kestrel is back as a boss.

The new map, which I believe is named Vasgar, is quite well done and looks great. It seems to be a map based in a region, that is probably based on real-life middle east. The writing that can be found on the terminals etc. reminds me of arabic writing, though it seems to be a former UIR country or atleast the UIR was somehow in the country.

Now to the characters. As TC announced, the are no classes anymore but heroes, similiar to games like Overwatch. I played as JD, since he got to use the Lancer GL. You can´t pick double characters, so you most likely won´t see two JDs in one match. Overall, the Ultimate took some time to load, I think mine was ready around every three waves. Fortifications work kinda similiar to Gears 4, but they changed some of the button-layouts and you can now rotate automatic turrets to face into the direction you want them to. Overall, that´s as much as it was possible for me to observe in 15 minutes. Generally, one needs to play Horde for a longer time, to form a proper opinion. However, generally, my impressions are way more positive than I expected. It´s fun to use the ultimates and the new weapons are fun to use. Oh, I nearly forgot to mention, you can spend your power on upgrades, that you can acquire between the waves. Stuff such as “increase on critical damage” etc. Quite a nice idea, as everybody gets power, when one person picks it up. So, you don´t share the power like in Gears 4. Overall, it´s much more comfortable now, since everyone get´s power when one player picks it up.

Generally, it wasn´t very hard to play, but you were punished pretty fast, if you went too far away from your group, as enemies are relentless.

That´s all I got in 10-15 minutes of playtime. I wasn´t able to experience mid-wave bossfights or to use the new forge, as no one placed it on the map.

Isn’t it “Vasgar” - not “Asgar”?

Vasgar is the country that Fahz originated from. If I recall correctly it was one of the countries that bordered on the UIR and was occupied by the UIR for a period of about 15 years or something during the Pendulum Wars. It was an occupation so technically it was never fully integrated and absorbed into the UIR, but explains why elements of the UIR are there.

Ah yes, Vasgar! I was not sure, I just remembered it sounding kinda similiar to Asgard. Fixed it.

Good to know! I hope we will see some UIR cities and territory at some point. If not in Gears 5 then hopefully in tactics or 6.

Great post, thank you for info. :+1:
