Hivebusters have inconsistent appearance in the comic

Just read Hivebusters, and though it’s a pretty good comic, I noted their appearances shifting early on. The way the hivebusters look now, save for Mac who received the big change, is how they look on the cover art. However, read through a bit and you’ll see their appearance is all over the place. In some sections, Mac looks like the new overhauled Mac. In other sections, he looks like someone else. He never looks the way he does on the cover in the actual comic. Overall though, he is probably closer to the comic book with how they changed him now, even though the previous version is preferred. Keegan has a long face in some drawings. Lahni looks like a totally different person in various parts of the comic. It’s as if there were different artists working on different chapters. Either that, or the guy drawing wasn’t going by a reference photo as he drew them and also didn’t reference his earlier drawings. I didn’t take photos of my comic book, but here’s a few a found online just as evidence of what I’m saying.

Front cover, this is how they look (save for Mac) in game now:

One example of how they look in some parts of the comic

Note Mac’s altered appearance:

Another example of Keegan and Lahni:

Note how Lahni looks like someone else entirely here:

The examples go on and on, but I can’t bog this down with photo links. Hopefully, the point is clear whoever was drawing them was just all over the place. What point am I trying to make? Well, one I guess is that the artists were inconsistent in drawing them. And two, I guess is the fact that they don’t have a consistent appearance pretty much gives TC license to change their look whenever, however they desire because there’s no “set” way they actually look in the first place.

I mean I guess but Macs face should’ve stayed the way it looked Originally in game. I get that the artists are inconsistent but that doesn’t mean T.C. has to be as well.

I’m still struggling to understand why they changed it in the first place. Maybe one of the artist contacted T.C. about the way he looked and desired the change

It’s probably a glitch

Don’t know if it’s true or not, the reason was due to some complain from an actor in the last of us 2 claiming Mac’s face look like theirs or something …it was some post I remember reading ?

God I hope not. That’s a really lame reason to change it. I’m pretty sure the cast list is up for TLOU2 so I guess I could give it a gander and see if it holds merit.

Just for note every artist draw every person differently so incostistency is a result of it. :face_with_monocle:

Just an outside theory: maybe TC plan on using art from the comics as cutscenes or what have you in the upcoming hivebusters story DLC. Maybe the plan is to slowly make the hivebusters look more like their comic versions. So by the time the DLC drops, at least it looks more consistent in the DLC. Mac was the start. Lahni and Keegan could be next. The problem with that theory is they don’t even look the same throughout the comic, so they’d be choosing one version to base them on.

First comic?

This is pretty common for comics in general, sometimes characters look different in scenes or their expressions feel off.

Smithers from the Simpsons agrees

A bit different from his first episode to what he looked like afterwards.

Yeah the Simpsons did change alot but they’ve been going for what, 32 years/seasons? These hivebusters just came out last year and these inconsistencies are all in the same (first) season. Not totally discounting what you’re saying though. When it comes to artists drawings they can just be inconsistent. Part of the territory with hand-drawing I suppose.

Smithers only looked like the left picture for a single episode, but I do take your point

HiveBusters has 5 issues in its story arc.

The artists are listed as

#1 - Alan Quah
#2 - Alan Quah, Wagner Reis
#3 - Alan Quah, Martin Coccolo
#4 - Alan Quah, Augustin Padilla, Wagner Reis
#5 - Alan Quah, Augustin Padilla, Kieran McKeown

The colourists are also different by issue but I’m not going to list those.

This is standard in the world of comics. Artists are sometimes too busy to churn out the pages and others help fill in. They all have different styles.

It doesn’t have any bearing on what is canon as far as appearance is concerned.

You could just as easily take a look at the current runs of Batman and Superman and see differences in appearance in single issues and story arcs.

This is a common issue with any comic in general that is done by multiple artists. It’s unavoidable and understandable. Same with cartoons on tv you have multiple artists working on multiple episodes at a time doing insane amounts of work something’s bound to give. You just learn to appreciate certain things for what they are and it makes you enjoy the artists who’s work speaks to you more.
