So I heard TC were asking/looking for feedback on modifiers in the Thursday dev stream, just now…
Execution rules. I profoundly dislike the modifier. What business does it have in PvE modes? It’s just a chore or added “tedium”. Instead of just having enemies die when they are shot while downed, you just have to put headshots with specific weapons into them. Or kill them with a ‘gib’ capable weapon. It doesn’t add any kind of real challenge to a match from my perspective because it’s so easily bypassed, and just makes it more annoying for characters using rifles other than the Retro Lancer, or gives you the fun task of chasing after Drones to kick them to death. If you can’t get them with an explosive or weapon that can headshot/kill on a body shot. Guess how fun that is when poking your head out gets punished…
I would take something else in its place very gladly. Like I don’t know, spawning more of a certain enemy type. Anything the execution rules might affect does nothing against the big damage dealer JD since he just throws another explosive at the enemy(which isn’t a fault of character design/balance, by the way, so don’t mention that). Sentries bypass it completely on downs, at least MGs do. Only one who gets any benefits from it is Kait with Blood Drain, but even without execution rules just spraying a couple of enemies with the Overkill and then cloaking up gets you pretty much the same result. Someone killing the bleeding enemies before they die to it? That happens with execution rules on too.
Almost everyone else besides Fahz just bypasses it with Tri-Shots, explosives or an EMBAR, so I really fail to see the point in the modifier cause it just encourages Tri-Shot spamming even more over most other weapons. Or you just to leave the kill for the Sentry.
Survivor. Some may disagree on this but, even while just using custom lobbies to find matches, I do not think there should be a modifier mandatorily imposing you cannot restart a match upon a failure on any difficulty, let alone having it be the first thing you get outside of Beginner if you were to use the public matchmaking system for whatever reason. It should just be an option with an additional reward, for those who think they want to challenge themselves to not fail for the bonus, just like it was in Gears 4.
Anyone else wanna chime in on this? Would like to see if other people also think the exe rules modifier is almost effectively pointless or just an annoyance that provides no real challenge thrown in. I dislike it in both Horde and Escape, particularly when there is lots of Drones you can’t just go and dig out. Or if anyone has thoughts on any of the other modifiers.
It would also be interesting to see detailed thoughts on all of the Horde difficulty modifiers. I would do it myself but currently not feeling particularly bothered to do it.
