Hi TC this is the Horde Community speaking

It’s not just that, a large portion of the business model depends on it.

They can’t remove it, it’s the cash-cow.

Im not disagreeing or being flippant by asking this, its just my general lack of understanding. How does the business model affect altering Horde and unlocking classes and characters. Honestly, this situation has been the most puzzling to me regarding what appears to be a rather mundane change that the majority are asking for that would boost a lot peoples negative feelings toward 5. I really thought very early on after release, that with as many loyal fans and Horde players desiring it to revert to the Horde of old…TC would have already done this months ago to stem all that some of that ill will. It truly is a head scratcher to me that they havent done so yet. So maybe It is tied to $. I just don’t understand how?

They should have moderaters to manage and deal with trolling complaints vs legit feedback and ideas.

They even mentioned the ideal of “setting up some place on the forum to get the feedback that way”, but alas, they haven’t, and I doubt they will. Until then someone has made a thread that will hopefully get people’s attention.

But to say not to bother using the forums because people will just post complaints? I mean, it’s this a Videogame studio or a high school project? They should be able to handle trolls in a thread if there are legit players providing them with much needed feedback.

See my reply above. I found the part of the stream where this was brought up. They mentioned creating a place on the forums to open up Horde dialog with the community. 343 did the same thing with Halo 5 for Firefight. Except that ended up being a waste of time.

I think if enough people contribute for Horde, some feedback will actually be taken into account and eventually changes may be made that we are asking for, even if they are small at first.

I don’t know that it’s tied to money so much as to the code. It’s dug in deep at this point.

On the other hand, they have mentioned that they want to try a short form of horde and a classic horde mode. If those are possible, I don’t see why we can’t throw out ideas for other kinds of horde that are more to our liking, such as beast mode.

Maybe the hero system isn’t going anywhere, but maybe they’d be open to adding other modes alongside it.

24 comments n some are from the same people posting replies etc… wow, i can see that the horde community is so small, or ur egotistical thinking majority would flock to ur post n support you… u do not reflect the horde community in majority in anyway. There are more than 24 people in horde n again some posts r replies here… so not even 24… i agree with much stated in here. But the ego of claiming “this is the horde community speaking” is ignorant.

Speak for yourself. Many post on twitter, especially reddit. I just think ur title is complete bs. Just saiyan. Love ur efforts though, i honestly do… but that title is barely true. If at all.

But pleasw do not stop ur efforts. Yall have some awedome discussion here, seriously

The hero system is tied to the business model.

They lay out plans for how they are going to make money/manage the game. Design decisions are made based on the plan, content creation schedules are made based on that plan, balance design decisions are made based on that plan.

Careful strategic marketing strategies are propped up surrounding the plan.

It’s too much to be undone, they would have to re-write a new model, re-balance horde/escape, reconsider content releases, re-write endless code, etc.

It’s just impossible to separate from the game on every level.

I wasn’t trying to be egotistical. It was a direct reply to what they said in their stream in the hopes that they’d take notice. That’s all.

TC even mentioned in the stream that the Horde community is not as vocal as the PVP community.

And that has been the case since Gears 2 and 3, back when EPIC even said that Horde was one of the most played, and often times, it was the most played mode in Gears. I would know, I was active in the OG forums and use to comment about Horde AND Guardian mode.

And to be fair, I don’t think he was claiming to speak for the community. I think his goes was to get the dialog started.

Yeah it’s hard to read people’s tone on the internet sometimes but from reading your previous posts I know you didn’t mean anything negative like that.

Just want to add that I do believe that TC pays more attention to Twitter and Reddit. Especially Twitter. But I don’t go on either much. I usually try to catch their live stream.

They did mention that they have some things in the works for Horde so I think we’ll see something soon.

I expect the Hero system will stay though. At least for a while.

They also talked about adding Locust characters to Horde, which would add some much needed variety.

  • Add host control for character lockouts (so people can run no jd/kait/baird/op stuff matches without communicating) - people will still run these characters due to efficiency.
Also add level requirement for incon/master difficulty, or in general.

  • Improve custom lobby browser, if you can. Sometimes have to click 5-10 lobbies before joining into one. Get full message very often. - Add extra information like current characters in lobby.

  • Add a video tutorial section for horde, solicit the community for well made horde video guides. Many of us will step up, or create them in-house.

  • Allow us to change the buttons for skipping a wave in option menu. Not remap the rb buttons, but change which button activates the skip

  • Add expandable detailed card descriptions that include the “secret” parts and give a more clear understanding of how the percentages actually effect us.

  • Add a toggle in options for fortifications for the following tags to appear when in tactical view “built by: player name” “last moved by: player name”

  • Add a toggle in options for various portions of the HUD to be turned on/off, like perks, gun/reload icons, map, horde status box, etc.

  • Make score cards exp cards as well.

  • Offer challenges throughout hordes akin to gears 3 bonus money/power challenges which can reward power, team-wide stim, ammo, cards, experience, or score. Or all of the above depending on challenge severity etc.

  • New enemies, and old enemy sets for arcade horde/other horde modes/variants

  • Enable venom cards for escape characters with reduced values for horde, leave values for escape

  • add a horde category for the forums

  • elect a community team for feedback collection

  • buying repair tool allows lvl 2 upgrade max for any character

  • horde map editor

  • Add arcade horde mode so people can opt out of hero system/customize the experience at reduced xp rates See:Arcade Horde Mode. A Suggestion to The Coalition

  • Allow all power tap spawn locations to light up each 11th wave, so that players can choose which spot they capture (1 per 10 waves passed like it is now), this will incentivize base expansion even further. The random spawns make it an almost irrelevant mechanic unless they happen to spawn where you set up.

  • Add optional extra stats (toggle in options, or click to view) on scoreboard like damage taken, healing/stim provided, # of weapons forged, etc. Let people see on the scoreboard how much the team contributed in ways other than damage, people get very upset about the damage dealers doing “all the work” when they are not. Big issue.

  • Add post match scoreboard with advanced breakdown/stats like accuracy, near deaths, base overview, etc.

  • Allow base blueprints to be made so people can share their base setups among each other via screenshots/in-game share function

  • Add turrets

  • endless mode, (Go past 50/go forever, maybe a 100 wave variant)

  • Add events from previous operations to custom lobbies

  • Add beast mode so people can see example bases made by devs in action as the enemy- See:BEAST MODE 2.0 Gamemode (PVE)

  • For beast mode if added- allow player built bases/maps to be played from a communtity listing akin to escape community maps.

  • Shorter variant modes

  • weekly horde events with random spice thrown in by developers with weekly leaderboards (Optional oppurtunity for 1% skins for horde here)

  • Monthly challenge horde (Master difficulty only + unique monthly modifier by devs)- another oppurtunity for 1% skins

  • do not nerf any single character, buff grace- she was a $20 pack character and also weakest

  • level 6 skill cards - add level selector for cards so we can scale back to earlier levels

  • 2 tunings for AI- casual/normal. Severely reduce exp for casual ai.

  • Add torque bow to fabricator purchases for at least one character, or add to future character starting loadout

  • add option for lvl 4 forge to “Research” a weapon- after 1/2/3 waves, depending on weapon type (normal, power weapon, heavy weapon) becomes buyable for all players from fabricator (Research should cost 1/3/5x purchase cost respectively per weapon type- normal-power-heavy). Consumes the weapon upon researching.

  • Add research station fortification as an alternative way to introduce the above point.

  • Fix the trolls being able to block host so they don’t show up in social panel

  • Add classic mode so the peeps who love 1.0/2.0/3.0 can experience their styles on the new engine, or add the controls to make it possible in arcade horde

  • Offer a fortification that cannot co-exist with weapon lockers which can modify guns for power- things like fire rate, damage increase, ammo increase- lock upgrades to the specific gun- if you die with it or despawn it- the upgrades are lost too.

  • Add lvl 5 decoy AI like gears 3 had.

  • DO NOT LISTEN TO THE QQ, THE COMPLAINTS, OR THE NEGATIVITY, YOU ARE DOING A GOOD JOB, YOU HAVE MADE A GOOD HORDE MODE. PLEASE, PLEASE TRUST YOURSELVES.

Sorry for being negative man. This place is a toxic mess heh

All great points.

How about a customization panel of sorts where you can check off the characters you’re willing to accept, as well as their level or certain cards? And then a way for people searching to see it, and a filter so we can find games we’d like easier? Probably pie in the sky, but whatever.

I’d say go even further with them. Let us keep leveling them up (what else are we going to do with duplicates?) and then have some kind of level picker so if we want to be super overpowered, we can, and we can challenge ourselves by dialing back the card level.

This is interesting. Sort of a skill tree of sorts? Like in arcade, but with a fabricator-type fortification?

The Deebee is still missing from horde. Now that we’ve got more skins for him, I’ve been enjoying playing as the DR-1 in versus. I’ve gotten used to him being on the COG side, too, so it really doesn’t make sense to not include the Deebee in horde in my mind.

Certain cards seems excessive but level/characters sure. Maybe restrict level req to incon/master

Even further can be later on. Needs to be added slow, a level picker would be great. Would be nice to scale back.

Idk about skill tree. The idea for a “research station” option for forge, or a research station fortification would be to consume a gun to research it- after the wave amount per weapon type it becomes buyable by any player in the match from fab or research station. This solves the issue of people wanting to buy any gun from fab, while also being able to be balanced.

Let me know if this is confusing, I can flesh it out some more if needed. Just a rough idea in the bullet,

More variety of A.I. teammates like in Versus.
