GW502 Error - Main thread?

Bro have u tried the 436.15 driver that fix all my issues but still has minor bugs man why can’t gears work on pc is because they don’t care for pc well I wonder why this why there pc fan base isn’t as big because of bs issues we have to wait to get fix and never get resolved for example gears of war 4

Game runs great on my 3770k and 2080 ti (upgrading once that 3950x comes out), However my wife’s i5-4590 and 1070ti crashes with the gw502 error randomly upon loading screens. I think I may have had some success running the game as administrator (as well as steam). Was getting consistent crashes every few game matches, never really making it past 5 games. After some testing was able to load/reload maps 10+ times without a crash so far. I know games like Middle-earth Shadows of Mordor like admin mode to enable Large Page Mode. Maybe something similar going on. Worth a shot

The probs seems mainly 10xx family. Windows and game updates can trigger the problem and re-isntallls or turning off HDR can reduce it but at some point a crash happens - for me its the COG freezing and all video lost on loading the menu

I’m going to try the previous driver 436,15

Mentions of this prob go back to last week https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/316254/official-43630-game-ready-driver-feedback-thread-r/ so perhaps Nv do know about it

Still no response from them lol

I think the entry [Gears 5]Random crash to desktop when loading match or quitting to game menu[2630220] on the Nv thread does indicate Nv are aware of some crashes at least.

Tthe page https://www.gears5.com/status indicates TC are not seeing this an issue. A title update in Oct is understandable but in the era of game pass a lot of people are in Day 1

I have had no crashes since rolling back to 436.15 - I’m never keen on going backwards but it does look like the only solution at the moment given no other from Nv or TC devs

i purchase the game on steam and has this error since day 1 and cant play game for this issue
the game is literally unplayable after 5-20 mins game crash with this error gw502 currently im on Radeon Software Version19.9.2 and tested previous versions nothing changed same issue
send my log multiply times via email to The Coalition didn’t get a respond

dude they don’t care about this just try to ignore it see my post they don’t respond or comment about this
im thinking refund option

@TC_Octus

ah I thought it was a Nv issue only - if its AMD too that makes things much worse as this game is pro-AMD.
No refund here as I’m on Game Pass - I’m wondering if this it the bargain deal I thought it was.
Other games like Metro Exodus I just got on and enjoyed instead of wasting time with drivers and checking forums. Plus I’m starting to see gameplay glitches and irritations too.

Try this one. Just press numpad+ when you are in the game, it seems to fix the problem for me.

Hello everyone !
I had the issue GW502 appearing during the game at random moments, “GPU stopped working”, i tried everything everyone said : (ryzen 2600x with RTX 2060)

  • Updating Driver
  • Closing every overlay (and basically every other thing running on the pc)
  • Disabling some options, v-sync and the other usual suspects
  • and the other things suggested here

Didn’t worked, but then i remembered i had the same problem on DIvinity Original Sin, i turned off G-Sync for Gears 5 and so far it didn’t crashed again.
If some of you who can’t solve the issue have a G-Sync monitor try to turn it off : go into nvidia control panel, Manage 3D settings, find gears 5 and turn it off.

Hope it helps, i know how frustrating it is.

For 10xx series cards the game crashing and losing video at start or returning to menu is solved by reverting to 436.15. unitl a proper fix is released

If you get a sudden fps drop after a windows or game update an easy thing to try is re-install driver in Nvidia Experience with Clean Install selected

I tried reverting to the 436.15 but it didn’t worked too.
As said I believe the problem on my end was because of G-Sync, I had a similar problem on Divinity : Original Sin, it was like in gears : freezing and dying at random moments and then games told me GPU stopped working.
Likewise in gears i don’t have problems when loading or anything, it’s mostly random moments when i play multiplayer.
I’m still on 436.15, i will continue playing this evening and if it still don’t crash anymore i will go back to 436.30 again and see if it still works without crashing and then i will come back here to report.

As said, if you have the game crashing at random moments while playing try disabling G-Sync, i noticed ithe game somewhat tended to crash when i got flashed or during a roll (since the screen freezes a couple second before the error arrive i can easily see which frame the game stops), and i believe it would be moments where G-Sync would be used.

Hope it helps people, i’d like to know if it solves the error for some other users.

I think going back to 436.15 is to help 10xx cards only - with your 20xx I expect 436.30 is best.
The crash in question never happened in game - only when loading the game or going back to a menu - when something was being setup/changed etc… The thread on Nvidia forum seemed to be about this 10xx situation - perhaps they need to know about random 20xx crashes too.

Just here to report regular crashes. Doesn’t freeze whole PC like Gears 4 problem, but I get the ‘Video Card Stopped Working GW502’ crash.

I7 7700K, GTX 1080.

I don’t want to go about reverting driver updates and messing with config, so I’ll probably leave Gears alone until it’s fixed. Had zero crashes until the updated drivers.

I didnt want to either but I also dont want a broken driver on my PC. It was easy to download and clean install 436.15, no ill effects and no crashes over several days. I didnt get game pass to not be able to use it,

As previous GPU purchase was based on good Nv driver support I will re-evaluate next time. They are clearly nerfing 10xx in a desperate attempt to promote RTX and RTX “enhanced” games.

I had that same issues here, was on the newest driver but I reverted back to my July one via a quick system restore via windows think it’s 430.16 which has been the best driver for my system so far, gpu is evga 1080ti. Since I’ve gone back no gw502 and in nvidia experience the slider is set to max and still no problems.

I’m kinda tired about this issue, devs should be looking into this heavily. We can’t rely in older drivers just to play the game fine, it’s non sense, I am not going to roll back again any drivers, they should adapt the game perfectly under the latest ones.

However I could manage to play few matches without crashing after the match (as before I wasn’t even able to finish one), and it was by deleting the “GameUserSettings.ini” from “Appdata/Local/Gears5/Saved/Config/PC”, this resets the graphic options to default (DO NOT change any graphic options after doing this), you might have to lower sound options tho, but for me was worth it as long as I could play at least 4 or 5 matches. And a full 50 wave horde…

And still not a single response lol.

Guys, if you’re using Nvidia GPUs, disable or change the “Max pre-rendered frames” or “Low latency mode” to default or off and see if it helps with this error.

Although the crash happens for me when loading the game, its not every time so although not totally random its not easy to declare whether any given fix has helped. But iIt is true that with a 10xx card I’ve had no crashes this week since going back to 436.15. I would have selected Clean Install so all Nv options will be at default.
