Yeah i got the issue to when upgrading my drivers i found out if you revert the optimize settings the game started to work for me again with GTX 1050 TI.
I only started having this problem when i downloaded the new drivers that were meant to fix the crashing. It really sucks because i payed for the ultimate edition for a game thats supposed to work when its released. I dont crash in any other game. Borderlands 3 came out fully optimized and I can play it fine but I cant even launch Gears 5 cause i get this gw 502 error.

If you open geforce experience have you tried reverting optimize settings? I noted when i upgraded it automatically apply the optimized settings what cause the game to start displaying the GW502 error. after i revert it the game started like normal?
I now get a crash where all video is lost on entering the menu or entering the campaign.The only recovery is hard power-off. In event viewer I see Error 4101 āDisplay driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.ā. its seems its when the GFX is being set up or mode being changed.
GPU is Nvidia 1080Ti
In event viewer I also see a very large group of Error 51 entries around the crash concerning a disk error for a drive number that doesnt physically exist - I understand UWP games involve the use of VDS virtual disks.

Weāre at the mercy of the game developers and video drivers (usually serious probs like this arenāt the video driver)
Step one is always to get dev/nvidia to admit there is an issue
Even if the prob starts to happen after a new video driver or windows update it can still be a game issue as root cause
For example, Ni No Kuni 2 HDR stopped working after a new driver. Nvidia blamed dev, The devs said and did nothing. In the end a user had to make a patch which fixed the issue beautifully.

Hi grooner, Iām experiencing the Error ID 51 on Event Log, regarding an error during a paging operation. The strange thing is that the warning relates to Disk 2, while I have only Disk 0 and Disk 1. Do you still get these warnings when you play Gears 5?

I have not tried Gears 5 today as I hate to power cycle PC when the game crashes
SInce 1903 Windows upadte and beginning with Metro Exodus also on game pass I see this happening
In Device Manager under Disk Drives spurious Xvd
In Event Viewer Error 157 āDisk 4 has been surprise removed.ā
As well as these Event 51s when there is a game problem
So, we can CONFIRM this ādiskā warning ID 51 is related to Gears 5, right? Because when I saw these warnings on Event Log, I thought my NvMe was faulty (itās a WD Black sn750), but I did some S.M.A.R.T tests with no errors
I believe these are some sort of VDS virtual disk related to how the UWP games platform works and not errors on our physical SSD disks
The Error 157 āDisk 4 has been surprise removed" happens a few times each day - as if these virtual disks are appearing and disappearing in the background.
The huge number of error 51 is important because the timestamp exactly matches the game crash and nvlddmkm error. I cannot say whether it is coincidence or actually related
Gears 5 is state of the art game and these are state of the art errors - no-one understands them!

Btw, regarding Nvidia drivers, I still have 431.60 and never installed the new ones (436.02, 436.15 and the last 436.30) since on Reddit and for my personal experience, these are still the most stable. Infact, I donāt have any errors at Gears 5 launch. Donāt know if I will get crashes during a long play, since I only played for some minutes. Which nvidia driver have you installed?
I have latest driver - but did clean reinstall today
Cleared DX shader cache in Windows disk clean up
Re-installed Afterburner - I dont use RTSS
Turned off Windows Game Bar
Just ran Gears 5 without crash and checked error log and thereās hundreds of new
An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk4\DR8 during a paging operation.
So error 51 happens whenever I play Gears 5 regardless of whether there is a GPU crash
My question is: did developers aknowledge this problem? Will they fix it? (Iām talking about the Event 51 warnings)

Hi everyone
I had this issue and I fixed today.
Download the Nvidia driver 27th August and you will be good to go
I also recomend that you use
Display Driver Unnistaller (DDU) and remove all your current drivers and data. Than you install the driver.
PLUS Ckeck your Nvidia APP and go to āChange resolutionā cgiise āUse Nvidia settingsā and chooose āFULLā in āOutput dynamic gammaā (Unnistalling with DDU you remove all your drivers and settings)
ALSO Disconnect the internet when you unnistall the drivers to prevent windows to install any driver.

I donāt know if itās only me but GW502 error started after Gears 5 update in Xbox beta app.
