Well, there’s kinda your problem don’t ya think? To judge a game off multiplayer alone is, well poor way to do things, Gears has an amazing story and lore, Horde was revolutionary (ok maybe not that amazing), and improved with G3, let’s also not forget this, Judgement packed very few maps on launch, 4 had, god I can’t tell you what it had at launch cause I avoided multiplayer by then, 3 had a eh amount (I should know I spent days of my life playing them), I’d have to say 2 probably packed the best launch maps that were really replayable, 5 isn’t really doing anything wrong or unheard of, I think if you’re gonna play exclusively multiplayer, go to Battlefield 4 or 1, they’re still active with tons of maps, Gears is one of those last few games offering something to everyone, so I apologise, though I’m still going to say it, your opinion is a little biased, don’t you think?
No, you’re right. Epic didn’t invent horde but they did it so well in Gears 2 that it changed the industry. Several high profile games included PvE modes like horde (one example is Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 which came out 1 year after Gears 2 and had Spec Ops mode).
It’s a shift in the entire software industry toward software as a service and recurring revenue. You ship the product with a higher percentage of bugs than in the past because you treat the product as an ongoing service and use the recurring revenue from subscriptions and micro transactions to fund ongoing development. This means the product will change constantly. Personally I blame World of Warcraft and MMO’s for this business model.
I’ve been playing gears mp since 2006.it’s the only thing that kept me around. I’ve never been impressed with campaign, it’s amusing that ppl seem to think it’s so amazing.
Gears 4 map count was also trash and even worse when they add new maps they rarely appear in the online mp.
Gears 5 they have made getting cosmetics way more inconvenient, it was annoying enough in gears 4.
Bottom line is the game is not nearly good enough
.
If my opinion is biased i mean i could say the same thing about yours.
You could, and I’d let you say I’m biased although I do try to represent an unbiased view. Well to agree with you I’ll say this, the cosmetic thing? Ridiculous in both 4 and more so in 5, I personally don’t care for cosmetics, just give me a character I like (Marcus, Hoffman, Baird, any Carmine) and a lancer, but I also can see that this is part of the industry shift, the people who are vain and want to look badass with their lightning lancer or whatever, yeah they’re making you pay for it and it’s dumb, I’d prefer to see a system not based around loot or RNG where you earn it through playing (which I’ve been seeing with the tour of duty in 5) for all games, I get wanting to look good and awesome, but it’s whatever. And to answer why people like the games campaigns I can present these answers. Firstly, people who were old enough to play gears probably came from PS2 and before, which means they probably experienced some likeable characters and good stories, secondly they potentially bought the books which I can say are amazingly written (haven’t read the latest two that came out) and make you really care about them, thirdly, some of us just wanna get lost in it, I mean I go through and find every collectible I can then read and reread, they put a lot to this world, it’s like Halo, games tell a great story but if you want it all, you delve into the books. And if you can’t make that connection I understand, I couldn’t for a long time, but maybe it’s just not /your/ story, and I can understand it 100%. And before I leave this reply I’d like to say this, since Judgement (pray they never bring it back), I can’t say I’ve seen any new maps in Gears and been like “yeah! That map is awesome!” Most of what people like is just remakes of what’s old.
And sadly you’re correct, I don’t know who to blame for it though, but sadly, even if we all say “hey, this sucks” it puts them in a bind cause everyone wants something different for dinner so to speak and because we let it run so long like this (not saying gears alone I mean a lot of games). And now that we’ve allowed it to be this way, everyone wants to fight about it. Personally I’ll choose to keep blaming the PC crowd… Or EA
Activision-Blizzard
