Maybe it’s because it’s not the mind-blowing Gears of War game that we expected and deserved? The game just doesn’t feel like GEARS.
Sorry to break it to you, but GoW2/3 running at a crisp 60FPS with dedicated servers, beautiful graphics, all maps at launch, etc sounds like a Gears of War game that I and many other players will flock over to immediately and enjoy a helluva’ lot more than Gears 5.
A remaster would do nothing but good for the franchise, especially after the failure that is Gears 5. There’s a reason why GoW:UE brought so many players back to the franchise and won their trust in TC after the train wreck that was Judgment (I loved FFA and Overrun though). It looks like they might have to win our trust all over again with a GoW2/3 remaster, or some miracle update for Gears 5 that’ll probably never happen.
Everything you’ve said thus far is just tradition. Worse things have been said about the release of 2-4 and if you think Gears 5 is unique in that aspect, you’re just ignorant.
The Gears 2 release was a ■■■■ show, and they didn’t tune Gears 3 for the veterans until months after. It shipped with an op Sawed off and game breaking Retro and gave you the choice to spawn with both of them. I’d rather play Gears 5 any day than experience that torture again. (I’m not drunk on nostalgia while typing this) It took Epic YEARS to get both games to the state you remember them playing as. Which begs the question, what do you want them to remaster? the original games, or what they turned into as time passed?
It may be tradition, but those games sure as hell had alot more content and enjoyment to’em than Gears 5 does. I stand by what I said, and would absolutely love for them to remaster GoW2/3 because whether they came out buggy or broken in the past, atleast they didn’t come out buggy, broken AND lacking basic content like a F2P game.
What they have that Gears 5 doesn’t have that you can’t see is passion and a plethora of content. You settle for the bare minimum and call it a superior video game when it’s quite clear that it’s a AAA game resembling a F2P model, and that’s what’s wrong with the gaming industry today. Atleast althrough-out Gears 3’s lifespan the game was enjoyable through and through because it felt like genuine Gears. You can’t get that feel from Gears 5, unless you truly don’t know what Gears is supposed to be, or are in denial. It’s pretty clear that the Gears that we know and love can no longer be created since there’s no passion left in the developers.
If you enjoy Gears 5, then good for you. But as of right now, it doesn’t feel like Gears of War, and I don’t think TC can fix that. Like I said, there’s little to no passion put in the game, and it shows. You can turn a blind eye to it and be fed whatever TC spoons ya’ like a Sheep, but Gears 5 definitely isn’t the Gears game that we expected from all of the false positive PR about how “Mind blowing” and “Breathtaking” this Gears game would be. It’s most certainly the Gears game that the core fans didn’t deserve, hence why the majority of the player base and core fans have ditched the game. Care to explain why that is?
So yeah, I’m still waiting for a GoW2/3 remaster regardless of how it’ll turn out, because they were genuine Gears games that are a helluva’ lot more fun and enjoyable than Gears 5, in my opinion. If you didn’t enjoy GoW2/3 throughout their life spans, then I’m regret to inform ya’ that you might not know what makes Gears Gears.
Gears 2 had NO skins or anything you’re considering “content” so if that is why you’re playing the game, I think you might be the one unfamiliar with Gears here. Gears 3 did not ship with a mentionable amount of content more than Gears 5, but like I said, I don’t think that is the point you should be focusing on. Just because you can’t play dress up doesn’t mean there is no passion put into the game. You obviously don’t remember Gears 2 when it came out. Playing months or years after release doesn’t give you the right to comment on it’s launch.
You talk about passion and mention player bases leaving the game, when you actually have no real metrics on either, and can’t back it up. We get it, you don’t have fun with Gears 5, but you’re just talking crazy if you think a remaster of old games is the answer to anyone’s prayers. You would probably line up to talk ■■■■ about it.
I’m not sure if you know what you’re talking about yourself. You think that cosmetics are content? I don’t think you’re familiar with the word content, my friend. This isn’t Judgment, we’re not trying to play Barbie dress-up over here, pal. If you want a Judgment remaster, then more power to ya’.
But again, your definition of content is definitely different than mine, hence why you settle for a bare-bones game like Gears 5. We’re talking about a real progression system and maps here, which Gears 5 laughably lacks. Gears 5 launches with 7 maps at launch and you jump up an’ down for them, which is why I said people like you were the problem with video games today. You settle for the bare minimum, a AAA game that’s resembling a F2P game, and that’s disgusting. Content is subjective, but I don’t think you understand what content the majority of players want.
Although remastering the GoW2/3 wouldn’t answer everyone’s prayers, it sure as hell will bring players back to the franchise. There’s a reason why GoW3 is brought up so much as the pinnacle of Gears, or have you not been paying attention? It’s all opinion, but it’s fairly obvious that a Gow2/3 remaster would gain the trust of the core fans. I still play Gears 5, but it’s not very enjoyable compared to previous installments, but I only sh*t on it because I want it to get better. Ever heard of constructive criticism?

Also, here’s your numbers to back it up. As of right now Gears 5 is #23 on Xbox’s most played games (Was #16 last month), can barely get above 500 players daily on Steam and is slowly dwindling (More than an 80% decrease in the player base), has 400 viewers on Twitch (Even RE:HD, GTA:SA and Zelda:TP has more viewers), and has 90 viewers on Mixer. There’s your statistics, so don’t turn the other cheek and claim they’re false when it’s blatantly obvious that the game’s losing players daily. I’m sure the official player base numbers would be rather disappointing as well. The game lacks passion, admit it.
You were the one to call gun skins and characters “content,” accusing G5 of not having enough. don’t push that off on me. Gun skins weren’t even a thing until Gears 3 by the way, and I really don’t know why they would effect your enjoyment of a game that much. I guess it’s a generational thing?
How long do you think most people kept playing 2 or 3 after launch? You Bring G5 numbers up without realizing they’re a lot more similar to Gears 2/3 than you’d like to admit. People left both Games in Droves and the community was Vehemently calling for change. You act like this is your first Gears launch. You act like you haven’t been here through the lifetime of the games you claim to love. I’m having a hard time understanding why.
Gears 5 has problems, but you know what? My favorite game in the series has more , and I’m not going to freak out over it. Most of us have been there before, and you’re talking like its your first trip around.
I’ve seen the hate the community had for Gears 3 with my own eyes, so forgive me if I don’t just blindly laud it as the “Pinnacle of Gears” when there was a whole playerbase that wanted Epics Head for making it too bright, and arcadey.
You’re just seeing everything through rose tinted glasses, and you don’t actually know what the games had to go through to be what they’re considered today.
There wasn’t a large amount of content at launch for Gears 2.
It had a
Campaign
10 maps
Bare bones horde (not a criticism)
7 mp modes,
10 COG and 12 locust (with 4 of each side requiring unlocks)
Later, the story DLC was a section that was originally cut from the game.
Eventually it had a large number (and my favorite variety of maps of any Gears), but certainly not at launch.
How is it anti-consumer?? Do you own the movies/tv shows when you subscribe to Nexflix and other similar services??? No you dont. Digital subscription services are the big thing right now and MS is the first to offer something like this for games
Ive already gotten my moneys worth playing games I wouldnt have because I didnt wanna shell out $40-$60 each.
Really??? Everywhere???
Is Netflix anti-consumer as well? At least with a subscription service it’s upfront that you are paying for access to games within the catalogue, saving several bucks on games I’ve been wanting try but could shell out full price for each.
Some serious anti-consumerism go towards on-disc dlc (Gears 3, Resident Evil 6), Pay-to-Win mechanics (Battlefront 2 EA, World of Tanks), recycled content blatantly repackaged and sold (the infamous Boltok Throttle execution), and frickin’ GAMBLING (every “loot box” mechanic in every game that has it.
You must be seeing red and have tunnel vision. Yes we need to keep calling out garbage practices, but we can’t keep using broad strokes like this.
Yes you are if you like trying out different games.
That same argument could be made for games like Battlefield V that sold by traditional means.
So I guess singles that gets stream plays on Spotify and iTunes shouldn’t count towards going gold or platinum just because it wasn’t sold per album?
At this point you’re just arguing over a different means of sales somehow “not being legitimate”.
I think many of us here agree that Gamepass is no excuse for crap games, because at the end of the day money is traded and consumer reception will have a say no matter what. If they want to keep releasing half baked products then my attention will go somewhere else.
This isn’t as eggregious as we’ve seen before.
That does not mean we should stop calling out the BS, but we have to keep our heads straight when we do.
For a game that came out 2 months ago, i wouldn’t expect it to be fully dead. But the term can be used in this case
You’re ignoring the simple fact that the player base you want back is now on Playstation 4.
The glory days of Xbox 360 are over and Xbox One is left with the scraps of the console wars.
Try to understand this:
The GOW fan base you want back will NEVER happen because they’re not here anymore.
I don’t underestimate how popular those games were.
I WAS THERE PLAYING THEM.
You can’t educate me on a game that I;'m willing to bet I played volumes MORE then you and your wife did.
I’m not stuck in the past, and I’m bored with Gears3.
You’re talking about FPS?? Are you serious, or are you trying to be funny?
If that’s your argument for bringing it back… then you have no argument.
Nobody cares about FPS for more that a day. Wow that looks great!!! Now I’m bored.
How are me reasons shaky?
Nobody is playing… I don;t think I need any reason at all.
The people have spoken with their actions.
They don;t want to play anymore.
You come off as so utterly clueless it’s unreal.
Show me one game as old as gears 3 that a ton of people are actively playing.
I seriously doubt you played gears 3 more than my wife and I. I’m talking thousands of hours here. Even if you did, I’m not sure what that has to do with anything.
It’s not a wang measuring competition.
FPS does matter and if you believe the majority of people can go back to playing 30fps multiplayer after being used to 60fps multiplayer, then you are just kidding yourself.
The fact that everyone here has disagreed with everything you said speaks volumes.
You are in the minority in your feelings towards a gears 2/3 remaster.
Feel free to reply, but I’m blocking you now so I won’t see it. I’m tired of reading your nonsense on here.
Seriously I agree. What extra time I get I’ll rather play than watch someone else play, and if I got extra free time and I don’t feel like gaming I’m definitely not gonna watch someone else game.
Again, I’m not sure you understand what content truly is. If you think weapon skins alone are content, then you’re sadly mistaken, my friend.
Sure, people might’ve left in droves for previous games, but not to this degree. There’s a reason why Gears 5 is considered the biggest disappointment to many fans, and why they most likely won’t be coming back. TC lost their trust, and rightfully so. You can kiss-*ss all ya’ want, but you’re definitely not seeing the bigger picture here when you’re head over heels in love with TC.
We’ve been there before, sure, but in this day and age it’s unacceptable to launch a AAA game resembling a F2P model with an extreme lack of content, and little to no progression. If you’ve rolled over and accepted that games like these are complete straight outta’ the gate with no meaningly progression system or an abundance of drip-fed content that should’ve been there at launch, then I don’t know if you’re trolling or if you’ve just given up and accepted that this is what Gears should be when it’s definitely a sad excuse for a Gears game.
I’m fairly certain that I’m not wearing any sort of glasses here. I’d say the same for you if I can call a game like this a “true” Gears game. If you roll over and be spoon-fed what they give ya’, then you’re definitely not going to see the bigger picture, and why there’s so much back-lash. You must be in denial, or you’ve truly forgotten what Gears should be. You’re definitely wearing some sort of glasses, and I’d like to see through them myself and grasp what you see in this game so I can understand why you’re defending these developers and their shady practices.
Do you not want people to criticize a game that’s well deserving of it in order for it to get better, or are you fine with getting the bare minimum, my friend? If so, shady practices a lack of content will continue in future Gears games, if they can even make it to the 6th Gears game.
That’s true, but atleast it was enjoyable for me at launch because it felt like Gears unlike Gears 5. I had a helluva’ lot more fun at Gears 2’s launch and played it every day, and I can barely muster the energy to boot up Gears 5. I and many others just boot up Gears 4 instead, and that says something. I have a PC, so if I could play GoW2/3 at 60FPS on it right now, I definitely would and probably wouldn’t touch Gears 5 ever again.
The thing with Gears 2 though is that they were maps that were done right. Unique, varied, dark, gritty, etc. Jacinto, Blood Drive, Security, Pavilion, Ruins, Hail, etc. My enjoyment with Gears 2’s maps never ceased to stop, but Gears 5’s maps leave alot to be desired. The fact that Gears 2 launched with 3 more maps at at release that were more enjoyable than Gears 5’s maps also says something. That’s just my personal opinion though. I just wish that TC knew how to make great maps and I wouldn’t even bring that argument to the table.
Yeah gears 2’s story I cleared the first day. I couldn’t put it down and after I cleared it I wanted to play it again on a harder difficulty. Then there was the introduction of horde mode. Something about 2 resonated with me. Best part was the single player worked the day it was released. Unlike some titles that will remain nameless.
49 viewers on twitch as I write this. Left4Dead2 (circa 2010?) has 157.
I know people like to throw fits and say that means nothing, but they’re wrong. It reflects interest. Steam has an average of 758 people playing Gears 5 per day and rapidly declining (you can look it up). Fallout 4 from a few years back has 12,000 players daily and growing. Even the last Tomb Raider (which came out when Gears 4 came out) has more than twice as many active players on Steam and it’s also showing an upward trend.
As I always say, I don’t care if something is popular. I enjoy what I like and you should too. However, those who are trying to sell the idea that the game isn’t dying might want to revisit this thread in a few months and tell me how that went.
I don’t think she knows what she’s talking about. If she doesn’t know the difference between 30FPS and 60FPS and why 60FPS is so important to have in video games today, then she’s definitely clueless, I’m afraid.
60FPS alone would bring an abundance of players back to GoW2/3 since we’ve never been able to play those games with such luxurious FPS before. It’s a simple fact. Imagine what crazy sh*t we could do on GoW2/3 with 60FPS!
