Gears identity crisis?

I feel Gears franchise was original designed to have only a trilogy. Now imagine the challenge to extend the story gears 4 and the challenge create 4 new characters could reemplace the our Mythic four fantastic group Cole, Dom, Marcus and Baird.

For example on GEARS 4. I feel OSCAR, DEL, JD and KAIT should be present all the story and marcus be an assister like ANYA was on the past. Oscar have an ARSENAL of funny lines that made you laugh every single time he is there lol.

Forcing old Marcus into Gears 4 campaing was a mistake on the story-script.

I love everybody’s statements about the pink Lancers in this…or that…and how if this game did it, well it’s just messed now…why give a ■■■■. That’s my point…I used 2 games as an example of how gears has been eroding from the gritty game it was and what put it on the map as a unique experience…you guys defending how the franchise has gone…only further justifies my theory!!! Thank you!!!

-In 2008 Gears " the original" had 6 million copies sold.
-Gears 2 sold over 4 million in 2 months
-Gears 4 sold 2.66 million.

I mean, I laughed at this.

The story for Gears (campaign), is just terrible.

I’ve played them all and barely payed any attention to the story line. I did laugh when Dom killed himself, it was just so cheesy and bad.

Campaign should have been done and dusted at Gears 3.

Then thereafter just release/concentrate on the multiplayer and co-op aspects of any new games.

Your in the minority, a lot of people like the story as this is what keeps them giving a ■■■■ about character skins and all the MP/COOP stuff, the fact you fail to understand this is very sad.

If they made this series like Black Ops 4 the number of fans would take a nose dive, no one who is a real fan of Gears is a strictly MP person.

Guys stop liking the game I don’t like! It’s not grey and brown anymore reeeeeee!

So let’s narrow it down…great 10 hour campaign or a true gritty Gears of war multiplayer experience…no rappers or rainbows.

As pointed out, the gritty multiplayer ended with Gears 2.

I like Gears 2 the most.

I don’t disagree that’s my personal fav.

Maps, atmosphere, and general feel. Fantastic.

These days are gone.

Enter the fortnite kids.

This is what you get.

Be thankful Gears is still considered AAA.

Where exactly are these figures coming from? Because I have not seen any numbers that actually include all sales of both physical and digital copies of the game. At the time this game released digital, was and still is a highly used method to purchase games which typically is not recorded in any sort of sales numbers.

You know why Gears 1 and 2 had such “Grit”? Gears of War was the first game to use the Unreal Engine 3, and the color pallette was not very large… Gears of War 2, you started seeing more color and more depth because the engine had time to grow. Then Gears of War 3 you really started to see the difference in just the landscapes they used to display everything…

Like someone said about, it’s evolution… Technology evolves, and to survive the company evolves with it. They have to… Which brings me to the next poing…

Rapper/Halo/Terminator… It’s marketing, again what companies do to make more money… There are die hard Halo fans out there that will see Halo skins in Gears and jump in, just because of that. It will be the same with any other skin you see that is outside the Gears universe… It’s just smart marketing… You put things in the end game to draw people in… Me personally, I don’t care if they put Thanos in the MP skin rotation… As long as the gameplay mechanics are solid, and I have a FUN time playing it…

The story is deeper than just the game… If you don’t like it, cool… It you do, and you haven’t I recommend reading all of the books… It is a great story… The books do a wonderful job of filling in all of the gaps in the games… And give a lot of back story…

In the end, it is always a personal preference on weather you like a game or not… For me, I can only speak to over the last 13 years how much fun and how many memories I have from playing this series with my friends… And the amount of people I have met and played with because of this game… So many relationships have been formed…

So identity crisis? No… No there is no identity crisis… It’s the evolution of the game… It’s keeping many of the core game mechanics while making changes to keep up with the times… I have no issue giving feedback that will include specific items of what I’m not happy with. This is Gears in the center…

If you don’t like something because of character skins, and it doesn’t have “Grid” IE they take advantage of updates software and hardware cool… That is totally your choice… To me, it seems like a shallow opinion but that’s just me…

Have you played Gears since 2006, is that why you are a “true” fan?

Just because a “a vessel is headed towards the rocks, doesn’t mean it’s too late to put it back on its original path”.

C’mon guys…I love Gears as much as the next guy
…probably more…but Halo in Gears…this is a shallow ■■■ way to say to M.S. followers…“Halo is coming, we frigged it up…its coming…and we will cater to the Halo fans and place characters in Gears”. Diluting Gears and pissing off the true fan base of gears…cause I guess gears is the little bitxh of halo now.

I get how you feel. No hate intended.

The world has changed. Gears 2 still exists.

Gears 5 is actually a step towards that but includes emotes and weird skins. As long as there is Gears, embrace and enjoy.

You are welcome to provide those numbers…I will link mine if needed…and physical copies are still outweighing digital on all platforms except p.c…by large margins.

The color palate has nothing to do with grit…pretty sure many gritty games have a large color palate without the main antagonists running around with a paint tray on their faces…and about $$$…M.S. spent 100’s of millions buying new companies in 6 months…so now they need a few bucks from some broke ■■■ rappers and the terminator franchise that has been “B” grabe since 1994.

The Halo plug is weak ■■■…really sad.

Again, where are those numbers coming from… Because with things like Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, I think that you are mistaken…

The color pallette has everything to do with the “Grit” of gears… It was dark, filled with many dark colors and due to technology shading was not really a think with made things look even darker… From 2006, to 2008 to 20011 there is a clear transition of how things evolved…

They spent that on the Gears IP when they purchased it from Epic… Just that one little ole’ IP…

I’m gonna guess and say the rappers didn’t pay to have characters in the game… The Terminator plug, I’m sure they got money from… And why wouldn’t they put in Halo characters in the MP if it would gain even more traction to get other people playing the game…

Trust me man… I have never agreed with Gears 4 and the RNGezus way of getting things… And the real cash money grab of buying the packs in the game… I don’t like the inconsistency of the MP for being on a dedicated server model. I could go on and on with a lot of thing I don’t like, but again like I said I still have a lot of fun in the game… The gameplay is good… Game companies are not “not for profit” organizations… And to boot it’s big business, so the shadiness of the tactics will get even more gritty… I guess you just have to find what you like, and what you are willing or not willing to invest and go with it…

A “true” Gears fan to me, is someone who love the game… If that is someone who has play for 1 day or 13 years… Someone who is willing to voice their opinion on things that really hinder the gameplay… Someone who logs in daily to play, or someone who logs in once a month… But someone that has memories, or really enjoys that game…

Tbh, I was wishing for Halo characters for a long time. Terminator is weird but Halo characters is something people been asking for since gears 3.

Are there rapper characters in 5? If you’re talking about Run the Jewels, this doesn’t even make sense. Those were at (or near) the launch of Gears 4, around 2.5 yrs before Microsoft’s studio purchases.

@SmilingGuns80 you stopped posting. Sup man…

Yeah, I still feel they should have found Oscar in that Hive pod. Then they should have spent the game developing Oscar, and making players freak out because Marcus had vanished (likely dead).

Then at the end of the game, post-credits, it should have been Marcus who cut his way out of the Snatcher using Dom’s knife. Then, as he stood up and looked around, he could’ve grunted: “SH*T.”

But I’m happy with what we got, and it worked out alright.

I mean, Epic was planning to do a second trilogy too. Think it would’ve still been bad?

Just to add to this: Much of Gears 4 was lifted straight from EPIC’s plans for a second trilogy. But then TC developed it, and improved upon it, as game designers tend to do when given time and money and passion.

EPIC was not interested in doing it, and they proved with Judgement that they were no longer up to the task. Burnout is very real.
