Gears identity crisis?

The franchise seems to be losing its identity with each new installment…that’s how I feel anyway. Just looking at Gears 4 with those ridiculous rainbow skins and those stupid rapper cameos and now Halo characters and movie cameos…is it just me? The grit is eroding each new entry…and it’s starting to really dilute what made Gears sooo good. Just my 2 cents.

I ready!!!

They shouldn’t apologize. The game has to evolve or die.

I’m quick to point out TC’s faults, but I think they are headed in the right direction here.

With halo, terminator and rappers? Care to elaborate?

Gears is about the story.

MP has nothing to do with the game other than cosmetics.

I don’t think Gears is having an identity crisis. The game still functions and feels like a Gears game (from the tech test). Customisation was starting to get wacky at Gears 3 with the weapon skins.

Customisation is a matter of taste. Some like it, some don’t. I personally don’t have a problem with it, as long as it stays in MP and not Campaign.

This. No one is forcing you into an armlock here. You guys can still use your default weapon skins and vanilla character.

The rappers kind of make sense.
Halo characters is for mp. This totally makes sense since Microsoft owns both the halo and Gears franchise.

Any grit in Gears multiplayer was gone as soon as you could play as Superstar Cole with a pink lancer in Gears 3. After that, all bets were off. I remember really lamenting seeing that before Gears 3 came out, but I got over it.

Well I agree that Gears is about the story but after doing the story multiple time you will want to hit Versus or Horde.
-For Horde, you started from 0 fortification to some fortifications to class and fortifications to adding ultimates!? I dont care about that, but I do care about I cant play with the COG that I have!

  • For Versus, Im sure we will still have or classic execution, guardian or team deathmatch

Or Judgement with a Pink Baird and rainbow Gnasher.

And they’re complaint about some rappers they don’t have to use? You know, I like Soulcaliber, but now we got this monster Hunter guy. The game is losing its identity I’d say.

Pathetic.

As a '18 vet, I have to say that I completely disagree with the OP.

I imagine they were disappointed with the size of the player base and player retention in 4. They want to be a big game.

I imagine the old adage “if you do what you’ve always done you’ll get what you’ve always gotten” rang throughout the studio.

They knew they needed drastic changes.

Unfortunately the amount of ‘06 vets out there playing the game just don’t cut it.

Pathetic

Edit: I keep forgetting greentexting on this forum just does that instead.

They are just character skins, and I honestly don’t see an issue when Halo:Reach was the last great Halo, and now GOW and Halo are MS owned.

They can put Will Smith rapping everytime he gets a kill in MP, and I’d be ok with that. Campaign on the other hand…

Lol…So a great 10 hour campaign is what most Gears fans want rather than a great mp…well I guess that is subjective, but if we held a poll i bet you would be in the vast minority on this one. Are the Gears servers still pumping today because of story…or people wanting to compete in a gritty gears game?

Make the poll.

I’ll take the bet.

Great campaign or MP without colors?

Let me know.

Lag comp gone is what most players want.
