I agree that the splash radius of the frag in Gears 4 was ridiculous. But i actually have a clip from the Tech Test where a frag literally rolled behind me and blew up, and it didnt kill me. I would have died twice from that in Gears 4.

Well yea, it should be insta-gibbing if you are right on it, it shouldn’t be completely broken. I did see some glitchy stuff with the nades at times not doing damage, but I assume they were just bugs.

Could be a bug couldve been lag. I guess we have a lot of questions that wont be answered until Launch lol.

Yea, sucks for me being on PC, on a 10 series GPU. I want to get the game out the gate, but the hard-freeze BSOD is a huuuuge deterrent, so gotta wait and see on a lot of issues first.

I know a few people playing on 10 series all the same issue. Are you on the latest driver?

Yeah my one friend is on the latest driver been crashing less but still crashing (in Gears 4). I really hope they have it fixed. Its so bad for business i cant believe it was never addressed on Gears 4.

How does aim assist in KoTH compare to Gears 4 modes? In all Gears I think aim assist was most preeminent with torque. Gears 4 comp it seems virtually absent. Does anybody know if this is true? My problem with Gears 5 aim assist is it also gets applied to the loadout weapons.

Comp modes dont have aim assist in Gears 4 or Gears 5.

The actual aim assist that was present in Gears 5 tech test felt almost like an auto aim. Im not sure if that will be the final version. In gears 4 you cant tell its there.

Frags in G4 were very powerful, yes. Just like they reduced the distance damage of the core gnasher and reduced the number of rounds, I don’t have a problem with them increasing the respawn timer and decreasing the damage range A BIT. They reduced it to next to nothing AND they increased the detonation delay… So frags are now largely useless.

If they made the G5 gnasher like the G4 Comp, would you be asking people who complained “so you thought the Core gnasher was balanced?” A statement/question which is completely irrelevant to the issue at hand. There are places between extremes, not supporting one extreme doesn’t imply someone supports the other extreme…

The only thing I ask is to not split up the player base (PC/Xbox) leave crossplay on and get rid of that PC icon next to PC players names.

It’d be nice if they just used a mouse icon for anyone using a mouse. I don’t think us controller players on PC should be punished.

Gears 5 Tech test, Impressions, feedback and balancing

Period 1 & 2

General game adjustments, options and UI elements.

[Improvement] Toggle between left and right shoulder camera

  • Having the option to toggle the shoulder camera from left to right by pressing the L-stick. This action will not collide or interfere with marking your targets since it will only work while you are not aiming. Holding down the aim trigger will mark your target.

  • Since you can technically do this means that this can work and would be a good thing to at least try out.

  • [Improvement] The option to turn OFF aim assist

    • I am fully aware that aim assist is on in core and off in competitive. The current aim assist that is on is too noticeable and actually obscure targets for precision shooting. One clear example that I noticed was that I was aiming down a target at a distance and someone else happen to run past and I felt how the aim assist was more lenient towards the closer target and I had to fight the pull, in order to maintain course. Given the option will not really affect the gameplay and is intended to be an option.
  • [Suggestion] The new gnasher and the reload, remove half clip and actives.

    • From ‘8 to 6’ Now I CAN be ok with this however the rules of equivalent exchange is needed here to calm the flames. With the change upon how actives now behaves along with the reload only giving back a half clip adds more or less another strange factor to the game. I think by removing the active bar completely and just retain the regular reload should be a fine middle ground. So you do not have to focus upon when to use your active.
    • Otherwise by keeping the new reload mechanics however change it back from 6 to 8.
    • It may not be as clear now but might perhaps be more prompt down the line and that is that the gnasher might be overwhelmed by the other main rifles, it feels like the gnasher will be an optional thing to use if you know you are going to be really close to your target.
  • [Suggestion] Camera shake

    • Option to reduce the amount or to turn it off.
  • [Suggestion] Emote, default Hold Y

    • Now this is something new to gears that will be fun to use, however the current default button mapping being R-Stick, seems not to be the best option for it.
    • You are more likely to hold down R-Stick for whatever reason and the last thing you want is to accidentally bring up the emote in the middle of a battle.
    • Usually Y is reserved for P.O.I or any teammate that is down to easier locate them. Hence you most of the time really do not use Y in versus would be a natural fit for the emote menu.
  • [Suggestion] Customizable Actions

    • Now something that is fairly interesting in terms of button mapping in Gears 5 is the fact that you can now swap buttons to further make it towards your own liking. Now this I like!
    • To take this even further can solve some of the problems in terms of button mapping (the the emote button). My proposal would be instead to have it shown the action you would like to change.
    • Example; Emote is bind to ‘Hold R-stick’ There could be a menu that you can browse through, select the Action [Emote] -> set to [Y] or [Hold Y].
    • So even if players who do not prefer to rev chainsaw [Secondary fire] for instance by holding down [RB] cold change that towards their own liking.
  • [Suggestion] Your selected character while in the main menu.

    • Nice addon to the menu that your selected character in versus is shown here while browsing around, also that either it would switch by itself between COG and Swarm.
  • [Suggestion] Opening Cinematic being skippable

  • [Fixing: Rework] The inverted Omen.

    • The idea about the new omen is great, however is not as optimal. It is more to the fact that it is obscuring too much of the entire screen itself. It is a clever design that has had a lot of thought into the mechanics.
    • By trying to scale it down to somewhat smaller size would be a good middle ground to begin doing some tests on. Think that the majority of us like to have a clear view around the sides and not having too much of the UI elements obscuring or blocking out information. Reasoning being that a smaller size would be more favourable still keeping the intended mechanics as they are and in addition! Since the omen is inverted it will most likely not interfere with the different aim reticles that are present in gears 5. If the omen is obscuring the reticules while aiming the omens overall intensity could be dampened, toned down or even translucent to compensate for the hard aim.
  • [Fixing: Rework] Remove the red by the edges of the screen

    • Now this is somewhat of a problem, I do comprehend the thought process to this however in practice and during hectic combat it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to keep up let alone see anything. The fact the red is in the corner you are losing portions of peripheral view and when you get even further damaged there is so much red on the screen that you cannot really tell anything in the end.
  • [Fixing: Balance] Ranked, weapon timer removed

    • In ranked and in competitive environment knowing the game, maps and the gameplay is key. Along with when a power weapon is about to spawn back. A great addition to gears 4 was the subtle addition of greying out pick up weapon when they have been picked up. The same addition is here however now with a timer that is counting down. Now this ruins the element of surprise.
  • [Fixing: Balance] Hitmarkers in ranked, remove

    • A great addition to gears that gives more information and feedback upon hit detection. As cool as they are having them in the competitive scene actually ruins other aspects of the game that are meant to have a purpose, one of them being;
    • Smoke grenades! They get to the point where they are almost obsolete. When the smoke is out and I cannot see through it (obviously) I am still receiving feedback from the game by these hitmarkers showing up. So I do not need to see where my enemies are I let the game itself tell me. So when it was the fact that you previously was not sure if you are actually hitting your target. Creating this uncertainty upon how wounded or if you even hit your target.
  • [Fixing: Balance] Hammer burst and safe reload

    • The new hammerburst needs a bit longer reload time along with the removal of having the active first, then normal reload.
  • [Fixing: Balance] The longshot short reload

    • Now this is a surprise, the longshot is in no need of a shorter reload speed at all. In the short time it takes to reload the weapon and have you fire your next shot is insane!
  • [Fixing: Animation] Roll queue up animation

    • This is more or less something that feels ‘off’ or ‘odd’ in Geras 5. Now it has been stated that during the 2nd period of the Tech test that the roddie run and the roll animation delay has been addressed. However when playing it during the 2nd period it is something that still feels ‘off’ really. I do not really know where exactly the problem lies to be more specific, however I am certain that we have pointed this out.
  • [Fixing: Animation] The Thumbs up emote

    • The animation for it is overall fine it is just that the COG (what I have noticed) is getting a very strange grin/smile on their face when doing this. Almost as if it was a forced smile or something, looks a bit unsettling.
  • [Fixing: Animation] Death screen and everyone continues to walk away

  • [Fixing: Text] In ranked the text “King of the hill” the ‘Hill’ part is obscured by the search bar.

  • [Fixing: Sound] Footsteps

    • I can hear them almost from spawn. Now this is good but also strange, since in the previous game the radius is smaller (which is nice and works great). Now I do not know really what to feel about this, but mostly it seems to be a tad bit louder. Think that the radius needs a bit of tweaking.
  • [Fixing: Sound] Torque bow charging

    • In case if for whatever reason you have not heard it. The weapon is loud ok, to the point where you really cannot tell where it is being charged from let alone the amount trying to be somewhat sneaky with it. Not happening.
  • [Fixing: Sound] EMBAR, charging sound or animation doesn’t seem to line up.

    • I do not really what it is, but for whatever reason I seem to find myself having the EMBAR charged yet it does not seem to fire (due to the weapon not being fully charged). Almost every time I think I have it fully charged and I let go of the trigger it does not fire. I am not certain if it is the sound of the gun being a second off or something has been changed with the gun itself.

Versus

  • [Improvement] Voting on map, LOCKED and voting timmer decreased

  • [Improvement] “Joined session in progress”

    • PLEASE TC, I believe that we all would appreciate it so much if in Gears 5 we do not join midway in as one of the default characters.

Arcade

Overall impression of the game mode itself.

  • Fun and as planned something different from traditional gears that we all are hard wired towards. Gears in some ways needs to change its more traditional ways that we are so fond of. Now how much is what we will discuss here together, because at the end of the day it will be us who will be left here playing the game for the long run.

  • With each character and their respective abilities mixes up the gamemode vastly upon how you play and what you will be playing with. This thought process to some extent will make you think twice before heading head into combat or chase someone around a corner.

  • Now since this is something that is somewhat new to gears it should be welcomed for TC to at least experiment for future modes and mixups. There is fun potential in this mode with crazy mutators that can really change the up and break of the monatiny in the overall experience and it is this what we also could be excited for as a fun addon.

  • [Improvement] Six-elim cooldown (while alive) and cannot refill ammo from crates.

    • After a six elimination rewards he been redeemed a small cooldown will occur (ex 30~60sec) While still alive, it gets reseted upon death (mainly so you do not use your extra eliminations to refill your ammo). Example; when I was playing as the sniper drone which gets the longshot as a six elimination reward, the ‘risk factor’ is greatly reduced here since you do not need to hunt down your enemies. You get enough shots to work your way back up to six more eliminations (if you are skillful enough of course). Which then changes the tone a bit. Because after a while you end up with plenty of eliminations that has been stored up, so it dose not matter as much if you die because you will just spawn and redeem a new power weapon and continue on.
  • [Improvement] Match end screen, extra prompt

    • Just annoying when you hit B by accident, because you think that the whole match is over and you are forced to head back to the main menu
  • [Improvement] The end screen of a match, no need to press X to vote.

    • The end screen of social games do not really need to press ‘X’ to vote. By default it should bring up the vote by itself and then if you want to look at your xp, ribbons etc. You can then press ‘X’ to return to the overall scoring and naturally switch between them as you like and prefer. So there is not really a need for having a separate screen when most of the UI is designed in a way that it all seems to flow together.
  • [Suggestion] Preferred character for arcade

    • Having the option to have your preferred character prior to joining so you do not start match with as Kait or Drone.
  • [Suggestion] New Arcade type with new set of rules

    • Arcade Core/ Hardcore (cannot think of a name atm) anyways. A new arcade type that change the base rules of the current arcade mode. Elimination requirements are a bit higher or lower (it is debatable) same cooldown and ammo suggestion is applied here and the main caveat of the game mode is that upon death your eliminations gets reseted. Also the heroes passives and loadout maybe gets tweaked.
  • [Balancing] Ammo crates should not refill any power weapons and any lethal grenades.

@the-coalition has created more issues than gears 4 had. Yes the game is not in full release but it’s definitely not a good sign when having all these issues so close to release. My theory is and I hope I’m wrong this game will be plagued worse than 4. They had 2 years to fix high pingers benefiting than normal connections and that has already been transferred over to 5. I don’t know about everyone else on this forum but if I was that bad at my job then I would of been fired by now. I think gears has been a good franchise and I hope it works out but as of now I will be returning my preorder back in just like I did years ago to Call Of Duty and haven’t played since. Character starts running on its own, think it’s when it’s a laggy game. Once happened twice in a row when I was trying to plant a frag in the middle of district in between where you pick the torque bow up and go up/down the ledge

One person with 80 ping affects the game negatively, 90 plus pretty much ruins it
Lag compensation bad again, will matchmaking be ping based, can we please set a max ping limit even if it means waiting longer

A single Flash seems pretty useless, needs bigger AOF very slightly longer stun, slightly longer blinding, need to be stunned even if not facing the flash explosion, a planted flash should go off instantly, with the delay anyone who walks or runs near it goes right by it so it’s useless. If a group of people throw them all at the same exact time, they might be OP, but I never saw that happen once.

Don’t make melee and executions the same button, keep kicking people instead of executing them, on classic-alt there was no reason to change it from right trigger click

Seem to get stuck on nothing everytime, while crawling DBNO,

Delay kill cam by a few seconds, to see what enemy does after

Power weapons might be a little weak, buzzkill point blank should kill someone with one hit, also the buzzkill can’t shoot over thicker coverage it just hits it

Do you have to hit with all shotgun pellets all the time to get a kill, point blank headshot, 2 pellets missed, didn’t die, at that range shouldn’t they die

In depth explanation of how shotgun works with pellets, gib range, damage per pellet, etc…

Much Higher bonus experience points for doing executions, especially a lot more for the longer beat down ones to make it worth it. Will make the game more fun with more people doing them

Were all the data centers active during the tech test, I never once got on an East coast one

Weapons dissolve/disappear too fast when dropped

backed out of the game with a squad made, I try to do a new quick match arcade and it said I couldn’t cuz my squad mate still in a game but that weren’t, they were at the menu, which Said waiting for host

Meatshield physics are messed up

Chainsaw takes too long to rev up, seems pretty useless overall,move back to B button option,

Right stick click does not work for executions with classic alt, can that please be changed

When voting in team deathmatch arcade mode the maps are switched between the bottom and the top

The B button prompt to counter a Y grab/mantle kick over the wall doesn’t always come up

Have an advanced bootcamp level that goes into more in depth stuf regarding movement, bouncing, up A, quick Left Trigger, etc, to help people improve and be ready for multiplayer, and for new players to understand why they are being outplayed

FPS and FOV have to be set the same as console, controller lock for PC, both of these should be required for PC vs console crossplay, otherwise I’ll never turn it on, since they’ll have advantages

If you’re going to be having emotes in the game, PLEASE have a laugh, unique to each character, a friend of mine who’s become soured on Gears, will definitely come back if there’s a laugh

Power weapon respawns are too long

Please don’t have bots pick up weapons or ammo in any game types, it’s annoying, and there’s no reason for it

Active reloads feel off, keep missing, never had this issue in any other game, could be input lag

Will starting weapon selection be an option again for king of the hill and other modes? Since Hammerburst is now also a mid-range weapon there’s no reason that can’t be a starting weapon, also the enforcer kicks so much now it really should not be a pick up weapon

Game looks awesome

The grin may look unsettling but it’s hysterical that’s what makes it awesome😋

Facts I feel the same way. They really do need to fix that. I’m seriously sick and tired of people stealing my kills it’s so frustrating
