I’m already done with this weekends tech test. Already done with the BS.
My overall impression of both tech tests is disappointing.
Positives: not much that I can say that are positives. Pellet indicators are a great addition to the game, alongside the extra 2 pellets to help with gnasher damage and consistency. (although consistency can be up for debate) However, I feel like the range on the gnasher needs to be reduced slightly to give it a little more of a feel of the competitive gnasher of gears 4. Rifles feel great to shoot. I like the way the recoil feels for each rifle/pistol. That’s about it for positives. Nothing more I can say.
Now for the negatives which are quite a lot. However, I know this is a tech test, so I hope some of the negatives I talk about only exist because it’s a tech test.
Negatives: movement feels clunky and slowed down from gears 4. I tend to roll alot even if I’m standing directly in front of or right beside cover. This is frustrating because when I engage in gnasher battles and I want to bounce in and out of cover, I roll even when I know I should’ve gotten into cover by how close I was too said cover. Gnasher gunplay is too inconsistent. What I mean by this is that there are times when I get out of cover and pull the trigger it doesnt fire. There are times where shots dont connect even though it looks like it should’ve. I’ve been reading on the forums about how there seems to be a delay to the gnasher if you exit out of cover. Hopefully this isnt a intentional design and it’s just a server issue or glitch because it’s a tech test. There are also times when I’m able to body anybody in the game regardless if the have good or bad connection. Then the next game I get completely run over because my shots are doing nothing. I hope this problem is server issue because it is a tech test. Rifles still need a nerf to their damage in competitive. I dont play arcade and dont plan to. But the rifle damage feels like core from gears 4 and I hate core with a passion. Please nerf rifle damage (mostly the lancer). I know you guys at TC want to bring rifles more in line with gnasher but none of your hardcore players want that. Gears has always been about the gnasher so please dont try to change that too much. If TC really wants to upgrade the rifles then I suggest you add a little bit of a headshot damage multiplier to competitive. Not too much damage to where it’s broken but enough to encourage lancer play and really reward good lancer accuracy. Just please make the lancer more like the lancer in gears 4 competitive.
That’s about it for the negatives. I hope they exist only because it’s a tech test and they are fixed/changed in the full release. If not well it’s good thing I have the game pass then because i will not be buying it let alone even play it that much. It’s a game with potential and I think everyone can see that and I hope you really listen to your fans feedback.
There’s a few things need to be sorted, the mace/hammer and gnasher are to strong, the gnasher is stupidly over powered, I get head shot with the embar and long shot and watching kill cam u can see the bullet was nowhere near my head, lancer saw is to slow to respond, I’ve had floor executions done to me when I was standing, keep being put in to games that are nearly over, spawning right in front of enemy, I think there is a hack or somethin already in the tech test, unless it is actually possible to wwin an escalation round in less than a minute, if you do a 3rd session it would be cool to see a preview of horde I think that if there was a horde priewiew you’d get more interest, plus you can get feedback for it too, or at least a different mp map
I have not had a chance to try KOTH yet but I assume from what I read for the most part it’s more of the same; hopefully I will get a chance before leaving tomorrow. As for the rest of the tech test, I did manage to play a good amount of Arcade. So I am going to bunch thoughts together about what I felt about the experience of the tech test:
Arcade:
Despite the majority absolutely trashing and hating it for this or that reason, I do think that there is some potential with the mode. I do though think that there should be perhaps other things added to it that make it feel more arcade like, like for example being able to launch grenades with the Lancer, as horrible as that may sound…or something of the sort. Doesn’t mind the class based system and once you get used to it, it’s not bad. Will it appeal to the casual player? Not too sure on that but time will tell - I have a feeling we haven’t seen all that arcade offers.
Crimson Omen:
Would agree it’s a bit much - yes once you get used to it and understand how it works it’s not so bad, but like the rest enjoyed the other omen that they had in 4…and the rest of the series. No need to change it.
Recoil in Weapons:
Some recoil in guns (think enforcer) are terrible. Not sure why the recoil has to be that off with some guns, but it’s a bit much.
Kill Cam:
Not sure why it is in this game - no one really asked for it. When I see it I feel as if I am playing COD, Battlefield or some other game.
I do like how you can earn things by getting stars ect - thinks that is going to be a good feature in the game.
While I prefer District over Training grounds, I do find the maps very enjoyable to play on - both maps are distinct and different and have a lot to offer.
Just a few of my thoughts - have enjoyed the tech test both weekends.
I’d like to request an option to disable kill cams or always skip kill cams. I’m never really interested in watching them and would rather just see where my teammates are at.
they do have an option as far as skipping them; when it starts up press the button that says skip kill cam…and it will go away.
I miss the simplicity of how GOW handled multiplayer. It’s smooth so far but there’s a big issue that I want everyone to know. The Torque Bow has a ridiculous hit box I’ve been getting “no scoped” like crazy! People hiding behind cover then not even peeking for a second lands their shot! I had a guy kill me when the torque bow wasn’t even fully charged to blow up! It needs to get looked at ASAP
Let me say that this is my first dive into a long string of multiplayer games so I don’t have the best experience. Let me say tho the Arcade mode is fun the Some weapons needs to get balancing.
First an foremost, Lancer needs to have a massive drop in accuracy. There should be no reason as to being able to cross map with the lancer.
Secondly, You need to either make it so the Chainsaw Rev is mapped to the B button, or make it so we can map it to that button. So many deaths cause I kept reloading when I’m trying to rev it. Why did you keep the clash button B but change the actual Rev button to the RB button?
Lastly, I feel like the Flash bang is kind of useless with how little it does to the enemy. Very little time effected, can move almost as well as you can without the Flash and doesn’t hinder you vision.
Okay time for the Graphics, The Omen NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. It is so horrible compared to the old Omen’s. I can’t even tell sometimes when I’m about to die cause the Omen only shows on the sides of your screen. The place where you would not be looking in a fire fight trying to stay alive. It’s so light in shade to, where as the older gears it was dark blood red in the center of the screen . This was done to see how close you are to death.
Speaking of blood, Where is it? This is a Gears game right, isn’t Gear games know for how bloody they are? But when I play closer to the end of the match, I can only wonder why it looks so clean even after a huge clash. Speaking of clean, where is the destructible cover? The thing that made Gears SO MUCH more advanced than any other shooter.
Like I said, I haven’t played a lot of multiplayer until now. I usually just play horde or campaign, but I have played enough of those modes to feel how much has changed to the new game even without playing the multiplayer of the other games.
So it looks great and I did have some fun. However it seems this game suffers from the most irritating thing about gears 4, and that would be your shots not registering or only doing 96% damage. Just played a game with major lag spikes while holding a ping of 40. Also I’m not a fan of the 6 shot gnasher.
You have thought about optimizing Gears 5 before your release date or after your release?
Since with my components that I have, I think they are suitable for playing Gears 5 with a recommended configuration since at some point in the Tech Test of Gears 5 you get crashed by the error GW502 when I already have everything updating on my PC
Here’s my constructive feedback: why the ■■■■ am I put in silver when I’m destroying kids 50 kills one match 40 kills another . Always high kill ratio and also high caps in king of the hill. Then I get downgraded to silver 1 then bronze 3 like wtf is that ■■■■■■■■ I’m getting negative points whern we are winning matches 2-0. Someone better ■■■■■■■ explain this ■■■■ and it better be a ■■■■■■■ bug because there’s no reason I should be going down in rank and getting negative score. And I want my ■■■■■■■ answer soon or I ain’t buying this ■■■■
This is the First game where the 1050ti can’t properly run it?
The game actually runs ok at @52fps but I get constant audio glitches.
Same as first test. This 2nd tech test I got a message directly from the game stating - A 1660 was required.
The game runs fine other than the audio.
Can @TC not manage to get this to run on a 1050t??? What gives
I can’t stand the new gnasher system, you spend years getting good at one thing just to have it changed on you. Come on.
These comments are from playing on the original Xbox One
Pros:
-Game ran smoothly even with a 5-year-old console
-Arcade Deathmatch is an interesting mode and a great addition
-The new reticules on many of the weapons (snub, longshot, lancer, and a few others) feels more precise and easier to hit headshots
-Pellet hits are shown in gnasher reticule
Cons:
-Reticule on enforcer feels too large
-Having same button for reloading and revving chainsaw leads to issues so maybe make an option for disabling chainsaw and reload being tied to the same button.
Other Comment:
-Arcade Deathmatch is fun BUT the standard TDM from previous games with 15 respawns per team and last team standing is still a great mode. I hope it is still available in Gears 5 in Ranked in the final game. The end of games are so much more intense when based on last team standing than first team to a set number of kills.
Has standard TDM been confirmed for the final game?
The kill cams can certainly get annoying. Just so you know there is an option in the settings to turn off kill cams completely (at least on console). I turned it off and much preferred the experience with them off.
I played your tech test last weekend and overall enjoyed playing even with the few minor issue. This weekend however I barely get to play. I really looked forward to playing and every time I’m in a game I’m booted to the lobby with a message I plan on attaching to this post nothing to do with my network network connection is fine no other game besides the tech test and gears 4 does it 1st time in years I encountered this with a game it’s self fortunately others games I play I don’t have this issue a connection to the game continuously times out would love for this issue to be resolved or an answer as to how to fix it no matter the game mode I get booted out and gears 4 this occurrence has caused me to get a penalty of up to 3 hours hard to imagine but it happened this is really unacceptable for a game I love I have Xbox 1 and rarely play anything other than gears on my game time and this isn’t really frustrating and discouraging makes me reconsider gears 5 honestly I tried uninstalling and everything I could think of or see useful on the internet and no resolution so here I am gears please fix this issue I notice I’m not the only 1 with an issue such as this another issue where me and a squad member were in a game of koth and suddenly whole game was full of bots ( not 1 player listed but spectated ) and we watch within a few seconds two rounds passed and the game was over major major issues this weekend
I want to preface my feedback by saying I am a huge gears fan. Since day 1. I’ve played every installment of gears. I’ve read the comics. I love gears 4 for its lightning fast multiplayer. My favorite game mode was KOTH.
When it comes to gears 5 I’ve played the tech test on both the weekends it was available. The first weekend I was forced to only play arcade because I couldn’t connect to a match for KOTH. While that was disappointing, arcade mode began to grow on me. I like being able to purchase weapons on the fly to turn the tables. Being able to headshot with any gun is a feature that we’ve needed for a while now. In gears 4 my favorite loadout combo was the gnasher/enforcer. From what I’ve noticed so far, compared to gears 4 where practically nobody enforced (you’d get negative messages if you used the enforcer lol) practically 80% of players choose a character who starts with the enforcer just so they can get a gnasher — so great job getting players to change things up.
Today I was able to play a few games of KOTH since it’s the second weekend for the tech test and the servers are more stable and honestly, I was disappointed. The gnasher only has 6 bullets, I assume this was done to nerf the gnasher but it just doesn’t feel right. Considering how much CQC there is in gears 8 shots was a perfect amount, esp when you think about the 97%-99% shots that everyone hates.
I don’t think KOTH should be competitive. I get WHY you did it, because it’s the most popular game mode, but not being able to control my loadout and use the enforcer is dumb. There’s no other way to say it. At the VERY LEAST make 2 KOTH playlists — “casual” and competitive. Or give players the ability to change their load outs in competitive matches. Even being able to switch the gnasher from the secondary slot to primary slot is helpful in case you spawn in and an enemy is too close to you.
The weapons all feel completely different and I don’t think that’s in a good way. Recoil, rate of fire, damage all these things seem to have been tweaked. The lancer still seems to be OP, where as now it takes nearly an entire enforcer clip just to down an enemy where as in gears 4 you could down 2 enemies in one clip. One of my biggest problems with gears 5’s enforcer is even after you down an enemy if you continue to keep shooting as you down them your shots don’t register, you have to pause which then gives other enemies an opportunity to kill you while you wait to get your kill.
Gears 5 is just a few months away and after finally getting my hands on KOTH I’m honestly scared to see how the game truly plays. I’m not optimistic that the game will hold up to the standard but I do hope as a gears fan that you’ll listen to the community and do right by us.
— PS PLEASE remove “eliminations” and go back to Kills and Assists. If someone steals a kill they steal a kill, give me the assist. It’s hard to truly track your performance when both kills and assists are just piled together.
Second game in on the Xbox 1 playing king of the hill on district as the swarm. Noticed a few teammates not moving just thought they weren’t playing. COG won first round moved onto round 2 and I spawn in and am unable to move, or select weapons for half the round until I am killed by an enemy player and am finally able to move. Maybe add a respawn button in the future?!?!
Why Gnasher and AR’s are way stronger in escalation !? I hate this system plz revert back to 2.8 tuning
make the gnasher 8 shots again like gears 4 this is horrendous and the hammerburst in gears 4 is better for sure
I don’t know who thought making escalation have a lives system was a good idea but it is absolutely terrible with the new GOW 5 way.
GOW 4 did it right with unlimited lives, now in GOW 5 not only can your entire team lose very quickly if you have bad players or people quit but the opposite team should they have much stronger people wipe your team out leaving you no chance at all.
I really hope TC changes this or I just won’t play the mode in GOW 5 seeing how crappy it is this time. GOW 4 did it much better and seeing it be this bad in 5 is a “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” situation.
