Gears 5 Tech Test - Official Feedback Thread

I have a problem with the audio maybe its my PC that doesn’t run the game very well but the audio sounds really bad.

Can you tell me guys if my PC can run it? I have gtx 950

I noticed that quick reload (not perfect) does not fill the entire gnasher mag. Often times only adds like 3-4 rounds

This is by design. It’s stupid

The gears 5 movement is very slow, they should increase the speed of the slide because they give us very powerful weapons for such a slow gameplay

Taktics. any faster and the game is unplayable because the game cant follow anymore

Have you ever heard of a comma?

THIS is SO relatable. Gears of War 2 was my first heartbreak as a young’n haha. The game that engulfed my early teens is dead, such a shame.

Gears 5 Tech Test Initial Review

Intro

I would first like to like to thank TC for the impressive work that they committed to Gears 4. It was an impressive accomplishment and I believe it to be a game worthy of the Gears Moniker. I have been a Gears fan since Gears 1 and I truly love the series. I bought an XBOX One Gears Special edition, just to play Gears 4(I would not have bought an Xbox otherwise). That being said I believe it to be my duty to critique some of the changes implemented in Gears 5 to possible help avoid some pitfalls that will surely contribute to a negative game experience at launch

Issues

  1. Inverse Omen

The inverse omen is one of the biggest pitfalls of the tech test. It decreases visibility, obscures your line of sight, makes it very difficult to know where the shots are coming from, and contributes greatly to a negative experience. I cannot express how frustrated I am with this change. It makes it extremely difficult to play versus. I implore you, TC, change this back to its original implementation. If you can change only one thing, PLEASE CHANGE THIS BACK.

  2. Characters, Weapons, and Movements feel slow and clunky

I'm not sure if this is present because the Tech Test is merely a development version but I thought I should mention it just in case. The characters, weapons, and movements feel extremely slow and clucky, especially in comparison to Gears 4 and even other iterations. I played Gear 5 Tech Test and immediately played Gears 4 thereafter and there was a very noticeable difference. Running, sliding, dodging, shooting, etc did not have that feel or kick that they had in Gears 4 or even other incarnations of the series. If I'm in a fire fight, I need to be able to move quickly; I need to be able to turn quickly, jump quickly, slide quickly, etc. and from what I have experienced here, this is not the case. I fear that if this change is permanent, Gears will become simply just another run and gun shooter. It will lose its heart and soul just to please some casual players who will just stop playing the game after 2 months. I've been playing Gears versus since its inception and I know what is suppose to feel like. This is not it. It had an extremely negative effect on my gaming experience. I cannot express the urgency of this change.

  3. The Game Interface

This could be another development thing but I feel I need to mention it as it is something I feel must change. The interface from Gears 4, and Gear 3 were perfect. It allowed you to easily view everyone in your party and subtly displayed your stats, emblems, etc. I have to say, "if it isn't broken, don't fix it". The model for Gears 4 was amazing but for some reason it appears to have been change for this clunky, less streamlined version. PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK. It was fantastic the way it was.

  4. Chainsaw is RB

This is another case of "If it isn't broken, don't fix it". To activate the chainsaw as always been to hold the b button. I implore you to at least allow players to change the controllers back to classic. I found this to also contribute to a negative experience. The knife melee should be RB. It feels too far from what the game used to be

  5. Executions

Please incorporate the executions from Gears 3. I even found this to be lacking in Gears 4 as well (not as many available). They were a great addition to the franchise and I'm sad that I haven't seen them since

  6. Slow Reload

The Reload speed is far too slow, much slower than Gear 4 or any other iteration. If I'm in a fight and I have to reload, it is essentially game over for me. Considering I could be fighting multiple players at once, this is extremely undesirable. Reload speed needs to revert back to its previous iteration.

  7. Kill Cam

Leave this with Call of Duty, or Battlefield, It is not a Gears thing.

  8. Display Stats and Map

This change is utterly awkward. The previous iteration was much more fluid. Change it back, just please change it back.

  9. Hammer of Dawn

I don't know why the hammer of Dawn was ever removed but it need to be place back in the game. It was an integral part of the very story arc of the game since Gears 1. It was crazy fun and provided a tactical advantage to players that knew how to use it. Please put the weapon back in the game.

  10. Grenades are useless

It seems grenades are useless. I frequently saw my grenades have no effect on my opponents because of the chasm of time it took to denote from the moment the initial "beep" sound was made. At this point, grenades have no purpose in the game and I believe them to be a liability as if you're unfamiliar with their ineffectiveness, you may believe that you can get a kill with them. I believe that this change was made to pander to casual players, please don't make this error in judgement.

Conclusion

Gears has always been a staple of my gaming library because of what it is. The game is a fast paced, cover based, 3rd person strategic team based shooter. It has always been a crazy amount of fun and has provided me with years of entertainment. Please don't change the series into something it is not. Please keep its heart and soul as it should be. Gears is not COD, Fortnite, or any other game. Gears is Gears. It is uniquely special, don't make it into something it isn't. Please take these issues into consideration as well as the other issues brought up by the other members of this forum post. We all want the game to succeed and be its best.

I’ve been getting used to gears 5 slower movement and speed and starting to enjoy it more and more. I booted up gears 4 just recently and I’m sorry to say gears 4 is outstanding in its gameplay and speed of movement. I know I will get a lot of hate cause many talk crap about gears 4. I do enjoy gears 5 and I hope they take feedback and make it better then ever but I never knew how good gears 4 was until I tried it again and the gameplay was outstanding. Just my 2 cents. How do you guys feel?

It seems there is a problem with oceanic servers in ranked mode. I’ve only gotten in one game that has had good connection with a game full of Australians but I find the majority of the time I’m put into games with the majority of people having 200 + ping (who are Australians) and 2 or 3 people with 30 ping. Is this a known problem ?,

Fix the alternative control it is not responding and the character is running on his own.

The overall gameplay feels very sluggish. Not as smooth as previous games. The muzzle rise on all rapid fire weapons feels like it’s cranked up very high I understand this is fantasy but you’re trying to emulate professional soldiers and professional soldiers can handle their weapons much better. It also feels like the active reload bar has been slowed down quite a bit which being a player from previous four games threw my timing off considerably. The graphics and Maps were beautiful and very well textured can’t wait to see what other Maps you guys pump out. I like the addition of the knife for melee but it just needs some tweaking and getting used to for veteran players. Especially those who favored the chainsaw bayonet, having to switch from RB to the B button in a chainsaw battle is a bit annoying. I also liked the feature of purchasing your additional weapon during the gameplay and needing kills and points to be able to receive them. It helps change up the gameplay so not every match is a shotguns match. Overall I’m still looking very much forward to this game.

This is one of the most thought-out and professionally written reviews on this forum. Love it. I also agree about what you said on how smooth the gameplay is in Gears 4. I hope they make it smoother for the final product.

I agree with what you said.
This game feels slow, heavy, clumsy, as if there is no exact coordination between hands and keyboard/mouse (PC game).
There is no pleasure in playing it, nor in killing enemies.
I think I understand the direction they want to go, but this is definitely not the Gears I know and fell in love with.
The more Gears 5 games I play, the faster I want to get back to Gears 4.
And I’m sure of one thing: if things continue like this I’ll cancel my pre-order and I’ll only get it when it’s at a lot of discount, and that’s all to play the campaign.

While playing both the first and second weekend of the tech test one thing above all else I’ve noticed is that when facing the enforcer either close range or mid range it is almost unbeatable with and without an active clip. If there was more recoil or a damage nerf added it shouldn’t be a problem. Other then that love it so far having a lot of fun can’t wait for September.

Problems with getting friends into squads. Although my friends game shows the squad, the host does not see the squad. Also does not gain honor xp. Needs to be fixed!

I love the game, but I can not play it at 2:33 AM right now, not finding any games in KOTH. What a shame

I am from Europe

//EDIT: I have more people playing Gears 4 right now on my friend list. Less play Gears 5. what?

This weeks test was on PC and wow im loving it, gtx 1070 never had a crash, menu a bit glitchy not showing some of my xbox friends online. was playing arcade with controller and come MVP in most games just using lancer, Think its great that I didn’t encounter wall bouncing much and the 1 trick pony gnasher that this game is known for can easily be fort against. Its gears 5 not gears 4, lets keep them different. Hope you include some classic gears maps for the full game and into the future.

I copy this text because I think it transmits the impression that we have many players on Gears 5:

GoW5 Movement Feels Like a Downgrade to GoW4

Something about it just doesn’t feel right… There’s so many things that I can do in GoW4 movement-wise that I can’t do in GoW5. The movement feels like a total downgrade. Does anyone else feel this way? Also, the Snub is slow as hell! The GoW4 Snub feels so much better!

If you go crazy with the Snub pistol in the waiting room of KOH you can actually equip a second lancer and with that you can change the weapon to any map weapon. so you can have a sniper, lancer and gnasher at the same time
