Gears 5 Tech Test - Official Feedback Thread

The red omen on screen overly done
Kill cam no need
That new pistol can’t control…fires up when aiming
Feels likes Judgement day game play
So far gears 4 has a big advantage on mp.
But will see at launch day…

I want to introduce two bugs (the game seemed good to me)

The first error that does not allow you to choose the characters at the beginning of the activity and the difficulty changes in the madness of the bird robot in the ray must be that it gets stuck on the map when you want to make the change. to another wall when you arrive very fast, the same thing happens that some players do between flight times, although they say they are still normal, what happens when they jump a fight. I hope those insects attack outside of that. It is a great game that I did not do. I like the way to update, but it can be For the errors present at last I only have a great game, we understand those errors since it is a beta version and for that they are the betas to polish the game thanks for having a great afternoon/

True Gearshead here;

ARCADE:

I’m actually somehow enjoying the concept of Arcade. You either have to work together as a team to earn rightful points or make some aggressive moves to get them yourself. Not big on the class abilities but it’s new to me but always ready and able for change of scenario. Feels like a bit of a survival of the fittest mode with the different class abilities and getting to know when or how to use them in solo/squad aspects of it.

KING OF THE HILL:

Good old KOTH, no complaints. Feels the same as always and I’m loving it. Let me keep this one short and sweet

ESCALATION:

Weapon/Nade Spawn options for both teams is beautiful, As a competitive player, I see the involvement to make this big on LAN events, etc being an amazing part of it. Still tech testing so if I have anything else to be brought to your attention I will definitely edit or post again.

LAG ON SCREEN AFTER DEATH:

Like the gameplay within the game itself freeze lags while the game continues till you get to the Killcam. Not sure what’s happening there.

TALON AUTO PISTOL & ENFORCER:

Shouldn’t be an option as a primary weapon in any given mode. Talon is by far OP, takes away from the Lancer and Gnasher and the Enforcer is a spit in the face to the Gears world to be made a primary selection. Keep it classy with the veteran AR, Shotgun and Snub.

Flashbang Grenades:

They are definitely valuable in competitive scenarios but should be something to be picked up only. Smoke is a solid primary start, as much I might hate myself for saying but Flash nades should be earned out there. Just imagine having a whole squad of Flashes out there, straight OP at that point

I made a post specifically about this but I guess I’ll throw it in here too. Another user confirmed via input lag testing that the input lag on Xbox in Gears 5 is significantly higher than Gears UE (about 50 milliseconds higher). Total, it’s about 6 frames of input lag (about 100 milliseconds), which is significantly more than the expected ~3 frames of lag.

I want to say that my experience so far hasn’t been bad. Played one koth match after waiting forever to get in.
My main comments about the game that are in regards to things that weren’t broken so why change them.

1st
Why is there a left safety zone for the active reload? I believe the hammerbust did that once but there wasn’t anything on the right so you could jam your guns till. There’s no point having active now that you can’t miss. If you miss still then it must be your first video game experience. Active has been the same for 5 games and they go and nerf the active meter. Why even have active power bonuses anyway now? You can’t miss so everyone is going to either have it or have a quick reload with no chance to jam for trying to get the buff. It was good when people would spam it and mess it up. And the timer from gears 4 worked so you couldn’t spam. I just don’t see a point to the left side safety cushion for pressing early. I mean it was easy to hit and if you didn’t on the right side you were still safe…

The way the damage was indicated on screen. I don’t like this outlined 3x biggers omen that almost looks like it’s a porthole on a boat with the blood and red stuff around it. I can’t even tell if it indicates direction but it’s distracting AF for me. The way it was in 4 etc was fine so why change it?

Weapons
What’s with the autopistol? It’s just a more accurate Gorgon pistol. The fully automatic gears 3 version. Swarm somehow have locust tech but no Gorgon pistols are laying around? come on
Also the balance to me is off with using a hammerburst in arcade and a lancer takes you down. I thought the point of the hammerburst was it was burst shot that were stronger…perhaps he had an active on me who knows…

Just my 2 pennies…

I love the graphics. They are so much better than prior Gears. What upsets me is how painful is to kill a player with a knife, it should make it more simple rather than use focus to find the player on ground and finish it

Please include “tournament alt” when the main game launches in September.

Here are some ideas that I feel could make Gears 5 more than a disappointing Gears 4.5

  1. In TDM, you should only have 5 respawns per round to decrease how often one player causes respawns to be depleted and can encourage players to be more cautious and rational if they continuously die.

  2. You should be able to prefer maps in the options menu (I ain’t tryna play no Canals or Dawn) or at least a ‘Prefer Not to Play’ option.

  3. Whenever old maps are brought back they should have different weapons, and they should have new designs. For example, on Blood Drive maybe the Boltok/Hammerburst room could be connected to the back room or maybe the train that’s over the middle of the map could fall off in the middle of the match and add new cover/ weapon positions.

  4. Maybe they could add something to where if you’ve completed Gears 2 campaign you can equip that games menu music. Same for the In-Game Announcers.

  5. Whenever you’re in Tac/Com you should be able to see if an enemy has spawn protection and how much time they have left.

  6. There should be more campaign related maps… I was so excited to play on a map where there are trolleys that take you from place to place or huge chains that add and remove cover simultaneously m, but instead we get boring maps like Harbor and Fallout which use the basic 3 lane combat method without adding anything new to the table.

  7. Can we get rid of the bs tactics such as Wrap shots and Back-A’s without supernurfing wallbouncing.

  8. Get rid of aim assist in core

good points especially **5 ** and 8

Blockquote

Me and a buddy was playing the tech test and won 9 games straight and none counted for him. Also alot of ppl afk. There should be an option to kick afk people. Oh and don’t get me started with the accessing a game. It took me 30 minutes that one time to start a match.

I love the execution but apart from giving a few extra point and looking cool they are to risky to perform, it makes no sense to use them if they will cost you your life and probably the game if the game is close.

A fellow gear head was talking to me and he said that To make the executions relevant they should have an impact to the opposite team. I think that if I execute rival she/he should get a few seconds extra before re spawning, that would make the risk of being kill worth it if I can keep an oponer from helping his team for a little longer.

It could be part of the Meta, now that they apparently are going to have different executions that you can pick it could be incorporated to the game the longer the execution the longer you keep your oponer out, more rick more reward.

I have never seen an execution in competitive play and that’s obviously because it makes no sense to do them, that could be made to change if a mechanic like this is implemented, and it would be a very simple thing to implement

tone down the weapon damages … playing koth and its a joke … rifles and gnasher are ridiculously op .

tone down the gnasher a little bit if anything … I just cant believe some ppl rather play on these insanely op weapon settings .

at least have execution on comp settings … pretty stupid catering only to the casual experience TDM and KOTH players when theres aloooottttt of ppl who cant friggin stand core settings

and don’t tell us the gnasher is somewhere between core and comp cuz that’s just straight up fuggin lies

Arcade was fine at first but it’s a bore to play now that everyone has figured out that Fahz/Sniper and Marcus/Grenadier are the only worthwhile classes. Mode is probably DOA anyway as I don’t see how it draws in casuals at all.

Seen a lot of people praising the Gnasher but it’s just a spongefest for me, like worse than it’s ever been. There are shots where the hitmarkers pop up and it registers no damage, or shots where I put entire spread in them point blank and it’s telling me I’m doing like 70% damage. I really hope it’s the servers because if not we’re in for a rough ride.

-slow feeling movement, feels sticky and sluggish… not very smooth.

-weapon spawn timers are a bit much, holding weapons and knowing spawns before the enemy is a good tactic.

-the hp omen is over the top.
Prefer the old one.

-make one setting for all modes to make it less confusing and have everyone learn the same settings.
Just dont make sence having different movement and damage settings.

-bigger or less open maps would be nice.

-I like the main menu layout

-gnasher is sketchy but dont make it useless, the core gears 4 was perfect movement and gun dmg.

-make wallbounce useful stop trying to rule it out.
Its obvious in the game it’s being phased out.
Add wallbounce to the tutorial, let new players learn rather than complain about being overwhelmed.

-ARs shred to much, simmer them down.
Gnasher dont rule, it’s just the peoples choice.

-i like the arcade mode idea, but not the mechanical side, just make it the same as the other modes… or it will flop as a game type.

  • ranking needs to be based on score… simplely for the individual being ranked on overall performance.

-add more diversity to the maps and easing off the AR power, allowing all play styles playable.
Ita fun to sneak around and picking people off.
Not fun to sit and wait for them to push or run out if ammo.

-big team battle? A 10vs10 mode would be fun and probably redeem the game. With bigger maps of course. Many take a page from halo on this 1. Rather you do that than copy fortnight and cod.

Yeah theres probably more "opinions " but I’ll wait to see what the next tech test will be like.

Is TC Spoon feeding you?

Ok so far I love hate the tech test.
I’m warming to the feel but i dont like it, feels unnatural.

But that aside, I could help to notice some instances where it feels “to simple/un needed help”
For instance

  • the map weapon timers.
Why, I understand its to help players see when a weapon will respawn. But why.
It removes another “skill/game sence” from the game.
It’s nice to swipe a weapon before the other team remember it’s on spawn. For me it’s a bit much on the dimming down for new players.

  • the slide to cover
    Ok a big one.
Wall bouncing is a big part of gears, naturally people who cant “struggle” to bounce will kick up a fuss.
It is an issue for play base in vs… I can see why.
But nerf it isn’t the way forward, instead embrace it and add a wall bounce tutorial to the boot camp!
Make them “noobs” learn a skill rather spoon feeding.

But what does a wall slide got to do with spoon feeding?
It’s clearly slow and clunky on purpose, to make a quick player easy to kill when they push.
No more quick slide and up A’s, it more of a slow motion trip to death by a bot walking level 1.
Just feels wrong to have a good skill dampened to make new players feel good even though they barely made an effort.

  • AR damage.
Ever notice how new players naturally pick AR over gnasher. Then complain about the gnasher instead of picking it. Or even make an effort to change/improve play style and position .
Well thanks to the new improved ARs this is not a problem ^.^
As ARs shred at any range, further reducing the ability to push efficiently.
Why? To give new players a chance.
Again, why cant they learn the game rather than making the game super simple.

Im sure there is other examples like the gnasher delay and aim drag.
But these feel most apparent while playing.

Do you guys feel the same? Like the game is made so simple it feels like cheating, compared to gears 4?

Please note, when I refer to a gnasher nerf I am not talking about the actual firepower behind the weapon, but instead the benefit of playing aggressive close range vs. the new sit back and lancer tactic. Here are my problems with the current Gnasher let me know what you think.

1.) Shot Delay: I have been playing gears for a long time and I can notice minor tweaks that the devs might not tell us about. There is Definitely a lag now between roadie running/taking cover and the moment where u aim or fire your gun. This has caused me much frustration.

2.) Movement: The actual movement and Gnasher need to work cohesively together and this new clunky ■■■ movement and anti-wall bounce ideology has made the traditional Gnasher Dance impossible and inferior to the enforcer.

3.) Draws: Although I do think the Gnasher is consistent, I believe that it picks favorites sometimes. What I mean by this; in Gears 2 there was an Update that allowed players to simultaneously kill eachother if they are equally matched and both fire their shots. The term was called “getting updated.” I feel like there are less and less of these situations in GOW 5 which causes me to think they took it out.

4.) Over Powered Assault: Playing the current tech test has made me realize how significant they boosted the lancer and other assault rifles. Just because you add recoil doesn’t mean you can make the gun 50% more powerful. Cross-fire is toxic right now and it doesn’t even feel like I can get a solid 1 v 1 Gnash fight anymore.

Sorry just needed to vent. If you prefer the GOW 4 movement and play-style comment below.

Can you please make it so we can chainsaw instead of reloading when we empty the clip? It is very frustrating that in the tech test when I run out of ammo and there is someone in front of me that I can’t chainsaw them as a last resort because I have to reload. This is especially a problem in Arcade where the Lancer has a bit more importance. Anyone else feel this way?

Someone PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong or missing something.

Currently, to access your upgrade/ability wheel, you press the left stick. However, you also press this to crouch in cover. This means, if you wanna cover crouch, your screen is covered by the giant selection wheel. To remove it, you press it again but then you stand up.

Can this please be addressed for the final game? These two things actively fight against each other right now. Anyone else find this an annoyance?

Thanks

thanks for bringing back hyper bouncing in the main game but the melee bouncing where you press b to get off cover and a to slide back rapidly is still missing. That is the definition of going beserk and creating intense highlight reels please bring it back.

also competitive gnasher is equivelant to a sawed-off shotgun from how close you have to be to do any splatter kills please just add a sawed-off shotgun for the entrance barrier to be lower for new players if they want it that bad…

Furthermore, dont bring back crossplay turnoff feature. now that theres anti cheat on pc everyone should play together.

In addition, please bring back all the maps
