A clear step in the wrong direction. All the things wrong with your game. There really isn’t anything good.

Still peer to peer, ■■■■ that. This 2019 on a Xbox one, not fable on the original Xbox.

Laggers have a clear advantage.

Chainsaw animation straight out beats the new melee weapon hit/ follow through.

Ranked is a mess, 20 min que times

Escalation half times/ rounds are aids, ■■■■■■■ get rid of that garbage. There is no need to pause the game for 40 seconds for people to vote for weapons on the map that should already spawn there to begin with. This dose not make it more tactical, simply wastes every ones time.

Overall gameplay is clunky as ■■■■, and feels slow as hell. You barley have control of your character, , you just Magnetize to objects around the map.

Gun play is a bit off, full on nasher pellets are rng , damage on lancer is rng as well whether the first couple head shots will down a guy or it’ll take more or less the entire clip. Active reload included.

Quick play/ arcade needs to have better instructions as to how the weapon system works. And how to actually equip different guns. That being said the over all weapon system regarding the starting load out needs to be takin out of the game. There’s no need to have certain characters have certain guns only, that’s ■■■■■■■ stupid. you should have a main starting load out that can switch to any random gun with kill point upgrades.

How did you come to this conclusion???

  1. Camping behind cover and using lancers to draw out battles for 15-20 minutes.
  2. Slight bit of skill.

Pick one.

Tell the truth, we both know you have no interest in Gears and you are just waiting until CODofFifaNite gets a new release.

Overall, I had a lot of fun trying this out. Definitely enjoyed Arcade way more than I expected to. Thanks for the hard work. Couple comments:

  • Movement felt a bit rough and not as smooth/predicable as Gears 4. Found myself stuck to cover when I expected to get off and when I did get off cover, not going where I expected. Moving the camera around cover feels clunkier than prior games.
  • DBNO movement acts sort of randomly. Rarely was able to move where I was trying to go.
  • Gnasher shot immediately after roll seems to have gone away or be facing a serious delay. Some moves you used to be able to pull of in G4 don’t happen anymore.
  • 6 shot gnasher with new reload scheme makes me sad but not as sad as I expected it to.
  • Active reloads felt off. Saw some similar comments about hitting the perfect bar based on what the screen is showing but it not registering as perfect.

Edit: I think the Enforcer levels the playing field nicely against the rifles and allows for some different styles of play. I don’t think it (or any of the other guns for that matter) requires a nerf like a lot of folks are saying. It’s been fun to have to adjust gameplay.

Anyway, thanks again!

Hello there , veteran Gears player here since day 1 of GOW1.

I want to preface this by saying I truly was not a fan of GOW4 especially towards the end when there were huge changes made to the shotgun. I went from having a 2.2 K/D in Gears Ultimate / GOW3 to barely breaking even in GOW4. That said , Playing GOW5 Tech Test I’m back to getting my usual K/D from back in the day. My play style is very much wall bounce / blind fire so I’m noticing my blindfire pellets are registering a LOT better now. they are much more centralized instead of spreading so wide which I really love. Also like seeing where my bullets go when I shoot someone (nice touch).

Truly cannot get down with the weird reloading thing where if I miss the perfect active reload I only reload half my clip ? That makes no sense and it truly throws off veteran shotgun players. Please put that back to normal. Also when I actually do hit a perfect active reload none of my bullets blink so I can’t see which bullets are actives and which aren’t. Also it feels like the shotgun could use an extra bullet or 2 in the chamber I always instinctively shoot but my character jumps into a reloading animation - my mind knows there’s supposed to be more bullets. Lastly, something is off with the timing for perfect actives - sometimes I’ll hit RB perfectly and it’ll still miss it ? Double check that when you can.

I agree that the lancer could use a nerf - I know you guys want to make it balanced between rifles / shotgun players but trust me - 90% of people playing gears are in it for the shotgun fights alone. If we wanted to camp with rifles we’d just play COD. The only reason people are using more lancers now is because you are enabling them with these overpowered lancers. Pop in GOW1 real quick and that’s exactly how strong a lancer should be. It was more of a deterrent not an actual kill weapon.

I’ve always disagreed with popping an active reload without shooting a single bullet and all of a sudden your whole clip is laced with active reload powers - should make it like earlier games where only the bullets that are missing from the magazine when doing active reload gets the power buffs. It’ll make it so that the more skilled player wins out and not the one who remembered to active reload their entire clip before getting into a gun fight.

Frags should be allowed to be thrown with the same range as GOW4. These are like 225 pound grown men/women lol they should deff be able to launch those things.

I love the slower overall pace of the game - it’s how it was originally and it should’ve stayed that way. No reason why in GOW4 I should feel like I’m fighting Goku abusing wall bounce / wall bounce cancelling. It’s just not realistic. This is much better. Could probably even be a little slower and I’d still be ok with it.

Talon pistol has insane amount of recoil it’s not useable at all.

That new lancer is so dope but you should just be able to swap between firing modes by pressing RB so I can still use RT to fire - too confusing as it is now.

How much damage does melee’ing even do ? I swear sometimes I’ll shoot someone then melee and it does not down them. Should deff buff that or maybe they get stunned a bit ?

That’s my take for right now. Thanks for reading !

This! Exactly what i would’ve typed!

I must be in the minority, but I felt like the Lancer was way more powerful in Gears 4 Core tuning than Gears 5 (ranked). I can count on one hand how many times I was killed by a Lancer.

Hello,
I have one chief complaint and two minor ones… but first i want to say i appreciate the gears team and all the work yall have done over the years!
For starters my biggest issue with the tech test(and this may be the results of it being a tech test not the full game) is taking/maintaining/manuevering in and out of cover seems… uncalibrated, for lack of a better word. I will come out of cover when i didnt mean to, wont go into cover when i want to, etc. Its not broken, just not the best.
Second, I’ve noticed “phantom” enemies running straight at walls or into corners that i dont know arent people until I’ve taken a shot and exposed my position. Thus letting others shoot me or know where i am. It hasnt been a huge deal but it is something i thought youd like to hear about. They dont take or deal any damage, they are just there.
Third, this isnt anything major, just annoyed the crap out of me. The button “B” if for my chainsaw bayonette! Not “RB”! I have died too many times thinking i was about to enter a chainsaw fight to swing my knofe at nothing then get chainsawed after he moves into range. Im sure I can change my button layout.
Thank you for taking your time to read these, look forward to the final product!

Make the longshot more expensive in Arcade. In every arcade game so far, half of the team, both enemies and friendlies alike has picked the sniper class and just locked the whole match down and turned it into a sweaty, no fun allowed zone.

The CQB and Hunter classes are also hogged by sweaty tryhards. Heavy should have a Lancer instead of Hammerburst as well.

Very laggie and already had an error screen while trying to load up.

Dude the Lancer is actually better than the Sniper Rifle in Arcade. The Enforcer is a beast.

Casual Player here…
Lancer chainsaw should be with the B button…
It seemed like active reloading takes longer then past Gears games…
Being a Casual gamer, I liked Escalation in Gears 4… but now it seems too competitive… I don’t want all my deaths to hurt the team because I’m not that good… Now, if there are limited deaths, I won’t be playing that mode.

1 I found the movement a bit caught when going to make a passage of quina or reaction of shot
2 markza and boltok is with very low cadence, very different from the previous ones, for being a map weapon I think it should keep the same previously
I found the damage of the gnasher good, it was not the same in gears 4 that it was a ridiculous excuse of gnasher being that I hit the shots and still died with hits of 85%, 99% to 100%, yet yes in gears 5 happened in some moments to hit a close shot and not kill, including cover shots when opponent is exposed next to me
4 I ask that you do not spoil the gnasher the same in the gears 4, at the beginning it was good and then it was ridiculous, gears 5 in this test I found that the gnasher was good as I have never seen before in the series I hope it only improves and does not worsen
5 coverage shots still need to be corrected, it’s sad to be sparing cover shots when you hit opponent, the damage does not catch completely in many moments, it seems that your opponent when on the other side of the cover hides the head like turtle
6 knife strokes got great was something missing in the series

I’ve seen a lot of mixed reactions to this tech test, I’ve waited until the end of the first part to give feedback on it.

Overall, I must say I am enjoying the slower gameplay. It feels like Gears of old. Not this Gears 4 PUSH PUSH PUSH mentality. Things have to be more calculated now, and people with defensive styles of play will find more success here.

People say the Lancer is strong, but in my experiences, I have not felt this way. I feel like the Lancer is weaker than Gears 4, and combined with the lower clip size, its much better in the game. There are inconsistencies with the Gnasher, but I find that the feedback is better on shots, with the pellet indicator.

Arcade is a good idea, but whilst the mode is supposed to make new players feel like Gods, there is a lot of frustrating balance choices. Headshot damage could be tuned down a little bit in this mode, being killed in 6 bullets from a Lancer or a HB is not a nice feeling.

Spawning is better than Gears 4 in KotH, but there are very questionable spawns in Arcade, and combined with the spawn protection, it can lead to frustrating deaths.

Chainsaw should go back to B. I dont know why it was changed to RB in the first place, but it doesnt work on RB.

Inverse Omen. Whilst it is bad, and the traditional omen should be there, it isn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. It’s still bad, but not as bad as people make it out to be.

I’m really looking forward to this game because of this tech test. The game feels like Gears again. There seems to be more content in this game compared to 4. Whilst it is far from perfect, it is a big improvement from Gears 4, for me at least.

I don’t like it at all. Feels nothing like a Gears to me. It’s like a 3rd person call of duty. Very disappointed. I personally loved every Gears game since 1. Judgment was ok but I still played. They are really dropping the bomb here in my opinion. They would have been better off just doing a large update to 4 and new maps.

I’m probably still going to buy it because I’m a huge Gears fan. But I can see myself not playing very often.

If people did this, I doubt technology would be where it is today.

I doubt games would be where they are today, to be quite frank.
