Gears 5 Tech Test - Official Feedback Thread

There needs to be somewhat of some weapon balancing in gears 5 the gnasher is FINE leave it alone now.
The Lancers or rifles need to be more balanced.
I feel like some guns should still be pick up in arcade tdm

Not only when you invite someone it’s got a delay to it…sometimes everyone will have to end up re booting the game to fix the bugs and issues i also hope they fix the bug with the ranking system even in gears 4 you would actually win so many matches and not level up but in the end you actually did the game itself was just behind with progress tracked and would take a while to update!
also it takes forever to find games sometimes and i know its not the population that’s the issue

My 2 and 1/2 major issues with Gears 5 so far are:

  1. The god awful ‘Inverse Omen’ - it becomes such a hindrance to the player and effectively reduces your vision.

  2. The extremely generous Aim-Assist - has made headshots incredibly easy with the sniper and this new aim-assist is literally giving away kills with the gnasher… just watching the kill cam shows your enemy killing you, while their reticle isn’t even on your character and their complete pellet spread perfectly outlined on the wall behind you…

1/2. The Gnasher seems almost too consistent, you can barely survive most 2v1 battles anymore and the cqc encounters feel so short lived and unearned.
Now i don’t know whether this has direct correlation to the Aim-Assist or that your character seems to have less health and a longer regeneration than in previous Gears… but Gnasher battles definitely feel less satisfying and less ‘skillful’.

Final thoughts on controls, player movement and cover mechanics (Using Xbox One S):

This game has some very poor player movement, this is a pretty big problem because movement and control are arguably the most important things in third person games. The movement reminds me of Red Dead Redemption 2, the animations are fluid but in actuality the player has very little control of what the character decides it wants to do.

  • the range at which the player can slide up against a wall has clearly been reduced but the map layouts don’t feel like they accommodate for this. Wall bouncing becomes an annoyance because the character will more than likely role instead of slide.
  • Sliding up to a piece of cover is way to slow, taking cover in Gears 4 was a fast and fluid animation giving me the speed I need to outsmart the enemy player. Gears 5 however takes a while to even register my input and the animation is slow enough to where another player can track me and kill me before I’ve even touched the cover.
  • Pieces of cover are caked with super glue, cover can be more of a threat in this game than the gnasher. The character will repeatedly decide to attach themselves despite other controller inputs. Even when running I will still take cover despite me holding the A button and not tapping it. I never feel like I’m truly in control of what my character does. When the game wants to give me control it’s a blast, but most of the time it doesn’t and I’d argue this is the clunkiest gears since 2.
  • Scoreboard set to tap Select to open, tap again to close is wonky and doesn’t help with the flow of the game. The scoreboard should be set to hold Select, people will usually check the scoreboard for a split second, having it stay on screen and forcing me to use another button input to remove it doesn’t make too much sense. Sometimes even after the scoreboard has disappeared and I press X to skip a kill cam, someone’s profile from the scoreboard will be opened.
  • Aiming with a heavy weapon such as the cryo gun next to a piece of cover latches you onto said cover. Why do this? If I want to take cover I will press A. Give me the option instead of deciding for me.
  • Button inputs are delayed and sometimes don’t even register. After vault-kicking an enemy, I usually shoot them and roll past them to avoid surrounding players, here though RT usually doesn’t register quick enough for me to shoot the player let alone roll away afterwards. Pulling away from cover sometimes requires me push the stick multiple times.
  • B should not be used to kill the enemy after vault-kicking. Sometimes the animation just isn’t viable in a firefights, what if I just want to quickly melee attack the player to down them? Removing the prompt from the Y button gives the player less choice in their approach to combat.

Overall these issues combined have really hindered the amount of enjoyment I’ve had with the game, after only two days I’ve already had enough. These problems have driven me insane because I feel like my skill is no longer dependent on me because it doesn’t feel like I have control. There are so many aspects of the game that are done so well and are direct improvements to Gears 4, but when the game is fundamentally flawed in such an important aspect these positives become harder to appreciate.

Gears 5

  1. Lower ribbon cap - 8 or 9 for 500 and 12 for 1000
  2. The wall bouncing in this game is too OP
  3. Shotgun sound sucks
  4. Different classes don’t add enough to each players to really make a difference
  5. ■■■■■■■ cover spots allow for way too much headshot space wtf. U can get headshotted or shot at while in cover, from most cover spots.
  6. Customization: APPLY TO ALL. Otherwise you have to select each character every time u change a banner or something.
  7. Honestly I’m not too fond of the fact that everyone dies way quicker.
  8. The fact that pc gamers and consoles have to play on the same servers and matches is just ■■■■■■■ annoying. Such a disadvantage to console gamers. Don’t understand why games do this. Extremely frustrating.

So I’ve been playing Gears of War for a incredibly long time and there have been a very select few consistencies throughout the games two of which we’re changed inthe tech test first off the reload times for most weapons i.e the gnasher lancer perfect active timings have been changed which is horrible for a veteran of the franchise i could reload perfectly in any game i.e gears 2 3 and 4 with my eyes closed now I can’t because they changed it for no good reason it honestly makes me not want to play the game as much and my other massive issue is the new omen which blocks your whole screen as you take damage I have no idea why the devs thought it was a good idea but it’s not and should be switched back IMMEDIATELY it makes the game worse plain and simple

so serious bug report. Was playing in a party of 3 and my buddy Raansu was on Xbox one. he randomly just couldnt move until he died in the game. he could reload, and stuff. but he could not move… he was not afk or just standing in the spawn doing nothing .https://account.xbox.com/en-CA/Profile?xr=mebarnav

Also this has happened numerous times to him… I can not say it ever happened to me though he had it in the match also prior before i joined and this happened twice in the match I was playing with him.

Because it’s not that’s why.

Just because you’re getting beat down by a PC player doesn’t mean they have some large magical advantage. They’re just better than you.

As for wall bouncing, it’s fine. Don’t blame a skillful move that you [probably] can’t do and struggle to handle from others as being OP. Every time someone can’t handle a weapon or tactic it’s OP. The enforcer in Gears 4 is proof.

The K/M have advantage in any shooter…That´s why every shooter don´t use crossplay between pc nd console.

Changing the active reload on the Gnasher was entirely unnecessary outside of removing the damage bonus. It is possible for a player to shoot six rounds before they are even able to actively reload for the first time off of spawn, putting them at a disadvantage against players who are actively watching spawns or get close to a player when spawning. This cooldown lasts longer than spawn protection.

My suggestion is that, across the board, you remove damage bonuses as a whole for simply pressing a button at the right time. If there’s one thing Judgement did right, it was having the reward for actively reloading be that you reload faster then reloading past the “sweet spot”, actively reloading at all, or jamming. Then, reload the entire Gnasher instead of reloading three shells at a time. Or, if you must have such a mechanic, make it so that the cooldown for reloading actively is literally zero. I don’t see any valid reason as to why this decision was made to promote more careful play when this game is practically centered around running Gnasher in hand (not entirely by design, at least not on purpose) while keeping wall bouncing/ wall sliding the same as it is in Gears 4 right now.

Unfortunately, once again we have these moments where people tank what would be fatal shots thanks to high percentage damage that doesn’t get the kill. Honestly, the Gears 3 days where I would get downed in one shot are more preferable than having died realizing the person I shot should be dead. What’s worse, high ping players are still more than welcome to stay connected in games where people have way more acceptable ping allowing one player to practically act as a tank.

There are time when referring to the game as “Gears 4.5” isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Movement in this game feels amazing as it feels almost the same as it is in Gears 4, the game looks visually phenomenal and sound design is great. Change for the sake of change isn’t necessary to justify the next iteration in a series, especially when it comes to mechanics that have not changed since a franchise’s conception. However, it goes without saying that this “cliche” also a bad thing.

I refuse to buy this game at all if we’re going to continue to have this networking issue, especially if we are forced to play ranked matches to play anything outside of a playlist that arbitrarily chooses maps and gametypes because we aren’t allowed a party of five in social playlists of all things. If I’m to play this game with people who have less than acceptable internet, then at least let us play as a full team in social playlists designated to each available gametype so I’m not forced to play with friends who aren’t as experienced in the game against a full stack of highly competitive sandbagging players on smurf accounts who have nothing better to do than to make the game a miserable experience for people who want to simply enjoy the game in addition to having to deal with someone’s poor network connection.

Please, do not repeat the same multiplayer decisions you believe “earned our trust” in Gears 4. There’s nothing more off-putting than having this open forum where players voice concerns that apparently go unnoticed without any tangible consideration only for you folk to say something with such hubris on stage in front of millions of people watching you.

over all ok, good work.
issues:
cover seems clunky, and laggy. the gears 4 movement was ace. if it aint broke, why fix it
controller scheme - then using classic alt, if you are running and press cover (a) then the run just cancels. in gears 4 the run would only cancel once you take off run. please can this be put back or an option added to select.
I ve had plenty of situations where shotgun can shoot through cover , mainly on corners.
when ranked matches are over we can not see the tier the players are in

The lancer and shotgun are good a good balance so thank you.
The reward systems far seems good

keep up the good work

Hi,play against a pc must be a choice ,not an obligation.1 xbox with a controler,60,or more of ping, must play against a pc ,mouse,20 or less on ping…yes i think is fear:joy::joy:…ask them directly your diamond, why not…and you are a veteran…to ask something like that…:joy::joy::joy::+1:veteran new generation lol, just incredible.seriously i think must be a choice the crosplay, and i suggest to make rooms before match with every player with same ping,i think is fear,it doesn t matter if i have to wait 2 or 3 minutes more,if i know that i have the same chances of my adversary

THANKS, Totally agree with you mate. I was tired to play socials just for that fact. Rankeds are a hole full of campers who wants to win every single round, and this is so boring for me. I don´t want to play vs 5 guys lancering me the whole time, I just want to play with my friends tdm or koth with a map cycle  but nah…is better voting every single time for a map and for a game mode.

So TC, about those animations in Boot Camp…

Those should all be in multiplayer. The roadie run, the normal run, holding the weapon down in a relaxed state instead of always at the hip, it should all be in multiplayer. We’ve essentially had the same multiplayer animations since Gears 1, except back then (in 2006) the animations were the same between both the story and versus mode.

This is not the case for Gears 5, and in fact Gears 5 seems to have the largest disparity between its story and versus mode animations.

I mean look at this. Do you see how good that animation looks? How SMOOTH? I don’t have a gif of the walking animation in 5’s multiplayer to compare but everyone knows what it looks like (it’s the same one in 3 and 4). I’m not asking for this level of animation quality in the multiplayer, it’s just to prove a point that the other non-story modes get shafted in regards to animations. My issue is that there are perfectly good new animations lying around in Boot Camp, which is supposed to teach people how to play multiplayer, and yet those animations are nowhere to be found in multiplayer.

Will TC alleviate my woes? Probably not but worth a try.

Loving it. Although, still not quite PC friendly with key binds, example being the inability to assign scroll up and scroll down and be functional. Wall bouncing not very smooth as well as the roadie run seems to have a huge initial delay. Obviously, all weapon damage is insane. I know this is tech test, hope the feedback aligns with others and we get some tweaks to make for a good GOW5 season.

When you hit “U” to chat (on PC), while in game, the chat screen puts a “u” at the beginning of the message.

Agreed on the parts about the maps. I imagined cover popping up occasionally in training grounds. Or a button to press that changes the way the map is oriented slightly.

Also why isn’t there stairs to the 2 places across from each other in district? Lol it looks very weird that in the real world a person would have to climb up and into the shop. Add some stairs.

no, there is a reason we asked for this to be removed in gears 2.when u shot in gears 2 when the character was idle, he didnt shoot straight when u pulled the trigger, it caused problems in game

I turned mine off. I was tired of watching myself die twice.

There is no way to cancel leaving a match (Arcade, don’t know about ranked) If you accidentally press “B” too many times exiting menus, you select to leave match. Once you do, only option is to bring squad or not, no way to cancel so you’re forced to quit and try to rejoin. Either needs to have a different action button assigned, or the option to cancel. uploading pics, if it works.
