Gears 5 Tech Test - Official Feedback Thread

Can we just ban people who quit? Seriously even in a demo we have people quitting…I’m over it. You quit you get banned from the game

First of all, thank you for the ARCADE Mode.
Despite other community feedback within this Forum, I really enjoy this game mode.
It separates the Fun-Players from the Die-hard-sweat-try-hard Gears Fans.

And that’s a win for all sides.

Especially the Weapon-Buy System in ARCADE-Mode is great, as it prevents the players within the same team to fight against each other over the power weapons – Now, everybody can earn them, and that’s great.
This system provides a great weapon variety along the players. I like this, because it also prevents these Gnasher, Lancer only gameplay matchups.

Further feedback from my side (very subjective, but that’s my point of view point after all):

The Good:

  • Smooth gameplay: No noticeable frame drops, no clunky cover system, great and intuitive weapon handling and good overall movement. I never felt out of control or stuck somewhere I don´t wanted to be.
  • Time to Kill is on point (good job).
  • It feels like Gears to me, but after all still is a new iteration with something new to adept and new things to discover or rediscover.
  • Lancer-Bayonet on RB-Button is a good thing to me, as I can keep right thumb on the stick. That provides more control (especially regarding charge attack with the Retro-Lancer).
  • Overall Performance is good (Textures, Sounds, Framerate)
  • Second day of Tech-Test has shown great improvement regarding Matchmaking and less waiting for the next Matchup.

Neutral:

  • New Death Omen is not an issue to me, keep it or change it to the original (both ok for me).

Room for Improvement:

  • Please add at least surficial destructible cover and destructible objects within the Multiplayer Maps. These pathetic little bullet-hole textures do not fit to your greatly designed martial weapons. It feels quite off to me, to see barely anything happens while shooting at any objects.
    A little more dynamic (at least like in Gears of War2) would be helpful to provide more visual punch to the overall impression of these Tools of Destruction.

And at last – Thank you for the Tech-Test!
I hope you will succeed with your milestones to provide the best possible Gears experience to all of us.

For the time I’ve been playing the tech test, this is my feedback, In general I think the game is very good, but if these points were modified it would be an tremendous excellent game!

  1. The new omen blocks the view, you definitely have to remove that huge omen or leave it as an option for anyone who wants to have it.
  • Many weapons have a very large recoil, this very noticeable in the lancer, which has no reason to have that tremendous recoil.

  • Weapons take a long time to reload and it’s about playing, not spending 10% of the time reloading.

  • That the gnasher only have 6 shots instead of 8.

  • That headshot are now too easy. Either you make headshot with all the weapons or implement the aimbot, but not both.

For everything else I thought it was an excellent game. I want to highlight the great visual and personalization work. I hope to help with this! Regards!!

  1. Damage indicator on the screen is too red and distracting, making it hard to fight on, gears 4 was a lot better.

  2. AFK timing little to long.

  3. Training ground map needs another access to centre high point, to counter camping.

  4. Overkill could do with a nerf.

Other than that not a bad tester :blush:

Although there were some serious issues on friday, once TC got the servers up and running I really enjoyed the tech test. Ive been seeing all the negative posts on here about it and honestly you people are pathetic. Why do you feel the need to heavily criticize a freaking tech test? Its unnecessary.

That being said I only have one real concern for Gears 5 on PC and that is that i really HOPE that we will not have a repeat of Gears 4 not working on Pascal Series Nvidia cards. I personally didnt have any freezing (after friday that is) but a friend of mine with the exact same GPU as mine had major game/windows hard freezing. So TC PLEASE do not let this happen again for Gears 5. Ive not been able to play Gears 4 for 2 years and its my favorite game…

As for gameplay- I really enjoyed the arcade mode. Its different but definitely a cool game type.
I LOVE that you slowed down the over all pace of movement etc. Feels closer to the original gears experience and i am ok with that.

also once bugs were fixed for the servers on friday, i played all day saturday (like 10 hours straight) with not a single issue at all. So things are looking good as for what i can see. Hope the same goes for others

Honestly loving this new style of gears. The one thing I would say is that the grenades need to be refined. Throwing them seems like it take a little too long, and the flash effect doesn’t last long enough. I also don’t understand why smokes don’t stun anymore. Other than that, I am having a lot of fun with just the tech test.

-Im not digging the damage omen, it’s overly distracting

  • The music doesn’t even sound like gears music, loses that classic dark feel
  • grenade set times are too delayed
  • escalation changes are confusing, weapon placement is difficult to understand, limiting respawns I’m not a fan of
  • don’t like the recoil on the lancer, makes it feel like the retro
    -i do like the maps with the elevation changes
  • movement feels good

yea overkill is strong af

Escalation is simply not fun. There is nothing exciting about wanting to play 7 rounds minimum to complete a match. Maybe reduce the time to spawn and time between rounds

Each lobby I’m in everyone who is going to vote usually votes right away and ends up waiting for the voting time to countdown.

I wish I was not forced to choose between Arcade or Escalation to get the tester skins. I would happily play KOTH to get the skins

I think gnasher should have a bit more of precision.

I also think you should improve or check plant nades, sometimes granades doesn’t plant properly.

Server are improvigin day by day since Friday but would be nice to improve that.

Ranking system seems nice at first but is broken.

Doing well in nearly every match with most elims, caps, and getting MVP and rank keeps going up and down, despite me being consistently good.

If this is how the ranking system is going to work, I’ll probably pass on this game.

The 200 XP Tour of Duty bonus for earning 1 ribbon doesn’t make much sense. As it stands now, it’s completely redundant since you’ll always get at least 1 ribbon thanks to Under the Radar. You will get the same result and clean up the UI by removing it and giving an extra 200 XP for the match. Or give a bonus for 2-3 ribbons earned with a little more XP.

Overall, im enjoying the first test, however there are a few things I think may need further experimentation before launch:

First and foremost, Please remove the Enforcer starting loadout in Arcade for Marcus / Swarm Grenadier and replace it with a Gnasher starting loadout. The Enforcer is a really poor primary and I understand the focus for that class is CQB, but in which case, the Gnasher is far better suited both from a gameplay perspective and the fact the Gnasher is basically absent from Arcade as its an unlock when the Enforcer is a better choice as an unlock.

Weapon Balance:
Beserker Mace - Time to groundpound is far too long.
Cyro Cannon - Far too weak and short range
Grenade Launcher Lancer - Grenade seems somewhat weak and hard to use

Gameplay:
Damage Omen - Too intrusive to gameplay, I think gears 3/4 version should be kept
Modes - For full release please have the options for Arcade / Social / Competitive. Social versus was just the right mix of quick fun in Gears 4 using the core modes . Whilst Gears 5 Arcade is fun, it should be a separate entity to the Social Verses rather than a replacement,

Dear TC, I think I have played the tech test enough(over 25 hours) to give you my feedback.

First of all, I wanna say, that I really enjoy the gameplay, the movement and most importent, my gnasher fights. The game feels really good and is fun to play. I love the hitmarkers on the screen which let you know if you actually hit someone.

Both maps which are in the tech test are pretty good in my opinion. Thanks TC for bringing us another Gears game to the market!! Really. I enjoy it. Yesterday I played 20 hours straight with only one little break of 30 minutes lmao!

But. I know, it is only a beta/tech test. There are still many issues in the Gears 5 tech test. I am going ahead and call some of them out right now.

The game has maaaany bugs still and glitches. I am also gonna call out 1 or 2 things which I DONT LIKE about Gears 5 so far.

So… about the bugs: There are many connection problems when connecting to a game, and I am sure you guys over at TC are aware of that. Sometimes we find games and the loading screen stays forever and nothing happens. The only way to get rid of this loading screen is by quitting the game completely.

Party members not showing.

Players get kicked from lobby.

Sometimes I play one game in a whole hour cause of disconnecting lobbies.

Killcam is laggy and a total mess.

No XP or rank up after a game(error message telling us, that the data couldnt get recorded)

Sometimes people, also myself, get kicked out of a game all of a sudden. With the message, “you have been kicked from the game”. Thats pretty annoying.

After canceling the matchmaking, unlimited time in “please wait” screen.

The ranking system is a mess right now. I loose rank even if I am MVP and win matches?! I hope you fix that in the full version.

What I dont like about Gears 5 so far: Gnasher has 6 shots in magazine, this is a big problem for me since I am very used to 8 shots.

Active reload on gnasher, you get only back 3 bullets when non active reloading, 6 for an perfect active reload.

Flashbang grenades are too OP. They flash too much in my opinion. Maybe thats just me.

The Ice weapon. Which is also too op in my opinion (is it called cryo? IDK)

Overall I am really satisfied with the Gears 5 tech test. I would have thought that the damage omen would be a bad thing but I got used to it pretty fast. But many of my friends are annoyed by the omen thingy.

The game feels smooth, the shotgun is fun, lancering bloom is amazing.(lancer fells too strong sometimes).

Ye thats it I think. I love this game and I am really looking forward to its release in September and I am hoping for a bug free game! I dont wanna talk about the disaster we had on Frieday 19th when the tech test launched because you tried your best and fixed it as soon as possible. I played the whole saturday and had a ton of fun. Looking forward to next weekend…and of course the full game! Thanks TC

//EDIT 2: sound bug with the power weapon lancer(dont recall the name right now) there is an unlimited sound bug with the Lancer when dying while aiming.(the lancer on Training Grounds)

When leaving a game lobby, there should be a confirmation prompt. I’ve left lobbies a few times by mistakes due to my controller triggers getting pressed while setting my controller done.

In all honesty, I’m surprised about how good a job they have done with the gnasher!! Well done, you guys!
Only a few things really:

  • On keyboard and mouse, the character gets locked into the roadie run animation. This often causes me to run straight into enemy players with no ability to stop running.
  • Whilst discussing movement, I feel there are a few minor fixes. When DBNO it seems as though the player jitters or cant crawl correctly. Back in Gow 4 (when moving around the map) we were able to hold roadie run to constantly run however in Tech Test, roadie run has to be pressed every time you move around cover.
  • Whilst the killcam is a great addition, I dislike that all players on the map seem to walk into walls whilst it loads.

If you played more than one match you would see that the breaker mace is in no way overpowered. It’s a giant melee weapon in a game where everyone starts with guns. Anyone who uses it is a huge target and dies soon after obtaining it. You hardly see it used at all in arcade, and it’s not even available in ranked, but you wouldn’t know that because you only played one match.

Enjoy being bad in another game, your reactionary feedback is a detriment and not wanted here.

gears 5 great expectations …

  1. I think that those of us who play this game want it to be more fluid, it is not, it seems more robotized, very slow in the movements in aiming, including in throwing a simple Granada.

  2. The Augurio that if a problem is red to the limit and you do not see anything covers the whole screen if one more is lucky no skill in gears 4 that gave the augury in the center and you could see your around here it’s time to say “I’m blind I do not see” is not very feasible.

  3. As it is possible that you can not dodge the shot adding this that you cover the whole screen with that slow omen too can not do coverage and shoot for how slow it is.

4.I do not think that you reappear and you see all the opposing team at once without being marked by your team, where the old part of the game is, it is pending that they do not come in the back to be on alert that is great, not this steps of the opposite team very good I like it.

  1. At the moment they kill you, it appears that the game stops and then you see that as it continues it is funny to improve.

  2. the shotgun really looks to aim clear is new game but you can not hit first and collapse with just looking at you, slow in throwing grenades, change slow arm.

The movement feels really slow and sluggish and the wall bouncing is definitely worse than before. Also the recovery time from flipping or roadie running is too long and therefore I get killed because I wasn’t able to shoot my gnasher and there is a glitch where people can shoot you through walls when they’re in cover and it’s happened to me twice. Lancer and enforcer feels a little bit more nerfed which I am satisfied with however I am not a fan of the melee mechanics it honestly feels like you guys are trying to cater to noobs and casuals which is not ok, please don’t be like epic games and remove these casual mechanics like panic knifing Or that OP ice gun

When you’re in DBNO your character teleports and jitters which is some what distracting

The damage omen is really bad and I can’t tell how much damage I’m really taking plus it covers the whole screen so I can’t see

I have to either play the garbage arcade mode or the sweaty escalation mode to get the gnasher skin but if I was able to play koth for it I would’ve gotten it yesterday

Training grounds and district are really bad maps and they enforce camping I wish you guys just gave us a old map that we all know and love

Button mapping the bayonets to RB seemed kind of dumb?? I just don’t know why you guys did that because the bumpers are the most unresponsive and fragile buttons on the Xbox one controller so trying to rev your chainsaw does more bad than good, please add an option to settings to change this

Trying to execute an enemy is weird cause the time you have to hold B takes too long

Edit: I love what you guys did with the smoke nades and made it so that they don’t stun you. I like gears 5 but it’s not as good as gears 4 and it feels like judgement 2,
