Sorry, ddu?

you do realize 382.53 only works for gears 4 not gears 5 tech test

Rolled back and clean installed 382.53, working now. But too soon to say if it works, thanks for the advice. Fingers crossed

A few people have reported using it without issues. I am aware it may cause problems but am curious as to whether its the same driver bug making people blue screen.

Mod edit: Not applicable to merged thread.

You do realize it’s not Nvidia’s fault, and they just were able to help fix it with that driver. They stayed committed for a long while after also. It’s not a driver bug. It’s Microsoft’s horrible mess of a Windows Anniversary Update, along with Windows Store UWP, x64-only, locked environment, along with a bit of TC negligence sprinkled in.

I haven’t seen TC respond to this yet, regardless of the amount of people stating they have the same crash. They probably feel a bit embarrassed that it’s the same exact issue that is still ongoing in GOW4. They don’t wanna give us the same empty statement that gets repeated every few months about GOW4 I guess. It doesn’t seem like a Tech Test-specific issue at all, which is the most worrying part.

I’m not going back to a 2+ yr old driver and losing all other optimization and performance boosts because of a dev team that isn’t technically inclined enough to fix a 3yr old crash. I assume they’re avoiding a response because the game hasn’t launched yet, and they recognize it’s the same exact issue, and they still don’t know how to fix it.

Imagine when this goes to Steam, giving people all these instructions of downloading all these Windows Updates, then having to rollback to a June 2017 Nvidia driver, to play what’s suppose to be a AAA game made in 2019. It’s really sad, just hire more technically capable people on the dev team, it’s not that hard, this is a major 1st party exclusive. This should have been sorted years ago with GOW4 already. It’s so annoying.

That isn’t what I have been told.

Edit: Nor am I remotely happy about the situation with TC games on PC.

I’ve got a lot of games, and never have I had issues like this. I don’t put all the blame on TC, I definitely feel a lot has to do with Windows Store UWP, etc. A lot of other issues within the game that has nothing to do with drivers should let you know they aren’t the best technical dev team around though. I have no issues with Nvidia anywhere else, and now Gears 5 Tech Test is having the same issue as GOW4.

It wasn’t Nvidia’s fault Shadowplay didn’t work properly with GOW4 forever, it was UWP which goes out of it’s way to make it hard for 32bit software to cooperate, and the whole Borderless Windowed instead of Fullscreen, and all their nonsense. Then they’re looking at Nvidia like they’re moving too slow, it’s MS blocking everything from working with UWP, wtf.

Gears 5 Tech Test even has some weird stuff going on with Fullscreen. It doesn’t seem like Borderless Windowed, but when I tab out of the game, it doesn’t minimize. I can only see my desktop if I hit the “Show Desktop” button on the right of the Taskbar, and that doesn’t always minimize it. So, already, again they have some funky stuff going on, and that has nothing to do with Nvidia either.

got my first bsod with 1050ti on ULTRA settings in the menus. It runs perfect on medium settings tough.

UWP certainly I think has a lot to do with the problems TC face. I cannot wait for the steam launch so I can be done with it.

Edit: I also can’t wait for a store that actually downloads things properly.

Yea, one main thing I’m waiting on is to find out how the Steam version is installed and if it’s actually a proper Steam version, or just basically the Winstore version compiled for Steam. Worst case scenario could be like some other games from other storefronts that sell on Steam and they actually don’t even install in the steamapps folder, they have their regular install and just sell through Steam.

Yea, 1 good thing will be to be able to download through Steam and not only get my full bandwidth to download, but a slight boost, rather than no more than 55% of my bandwidth through Winstore and the fear that there’ll be issues and crashes with the download. What a POS store, lol.

I literally downloaded 500+ GB of the 73.33GB launch version of GOW4 during pre-load, right after they put the big Windows Update out that was to once and for all fix the Winstore bugs with downloading/installing games. It still crashed halfway through and sometimes at the end of the download nonstop.

3 days later, I found an article on reddit on how to use an app called “Fiddler” to grab the url the Winstore uses to download the game, and paste it in Chrome and download it that way, and install it through Powershell. That’s literally what I had to do to install GOW4 originally. How sad is that? Made by the OS maker, yet worst than the smallest storefronts you can find anywhere, completely pathetic.

Steam always takes full advantage of my d/l speed and it just works, Windows store sometimes gets close, sometimes goes at 100KBps, sometimes stops, often fails.

It really is weird when you think about it, how bad the Winstore is, lol. So bad.

You are right though, it’s very possible, just being on Steam, and properly compiled for Steam, it could steer us away from the freeze issue altogether. I just hope they do it right. I wasn’t gonna dare buy the game on Winstore anyhow, I only got interested when I heard there would be a Steam version.

I did merge a few threads into this, and i think his comments were more a general thing after seeing a few other threads where people thought arcade mode was what all of Gears 5 would be.

I am not confident but hopeful if that makes sense. One less thing to complicate fixing issues.

That being the case, I’ll remove my post. I was shocked that someone would attack people for being the victim of driver issues.
