not sure what happened but Gear4 locked up on me like 5 times tonight. I’m cancelling my pre order. Serious BS
I wouldn’t put forward any form of pre-order or buying on the day of release until further investigation into the issue. They can’t expect everyone to simply upgrade to a 20 series to play their game.
Honestly though, after the wrap Gears 4 had with the freezing issue and the lack of ability to fix it? I don’t expect much going into Gears 5.

I guess some of us can test this new driver out tomorrow. I’m gonna check the release notes first, to see if there’s any mention of GOW4 fixes. The Nvidia support did say that fixes in 431.70 Studio drivers would be in the next Game-Ready driver, but as most of us know, that Studio driver only made things worst if anything for most of us.
There was no indication that there’d be additional tweaks other than what was in the Studio driver that would come to the newest driver, so I’m skeptical. If it mentions Gears fixes in the release notes, it’s still worth testing I suppose.
I mainly want to upgrade because I’m sick of not being able to use Shadowplay with 382.53, and not having the best optimization for any other games I may want to get back to playing. Whether it works or not, I probably won’t end up reverting back to 382.53 again. So, I hope it makes a difference, otherwise, I’ll probably end up deleting GOW4 again not long after.
Yeah it’s a shame man I’m tired of the dance… Delete, reinstall, try this driver and that driver. I’ve sent dumps I’ve done work arounds and then they bring the same nonsense to gears 5. At least keep us in the loop these MF say it’s a known issue and we are working closely with Nvidia for over 2yrs, Nvidia says the same. Tell us something!!
LOL, so much for this new driver fixing the issue. I get into a Social match as it ends, we vote for a new map, and it freezes on the Score results screen. I didn’t even get to play. SMH.
I’ve just joined my first game and crashed 30 seconds into the round.
The sad part is, they said this driver had fixes in it specifically for GOW4, that were in the last Studio driver. I kinda expected this though, seeing as the Studio driver seemed to be worse than past drivers also. This seems to be even worse than the Studio driver though, lol.
I don’t have much confidence in their day-1 Game-Ready drivers for Gears 5. This is getting ridiculous. I’m gonna just have to delete GOW4 sooner than expected I guess, because I’m not about to revert back to 382.53 again. I like using Shadowplay, and it’s not possible with that old driver anymore.
It’s really unbelievable this has gone on so long, and the fact it seems it’ll launch as a day-1 issue with Gears 5. Such a stupid reason to not be able to purchase and play a game.
I asked him if there’s an ETA on that next driver. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
“we understand the root of the cause”
It only took two years.
LOL, yea, also, I doubt there’ll be another driver between now and Gears 5. So, he’s most-likely talking about the Game-Ready driver for Gears 5. With that being the case, I hope this isn’t just a damage control type thing, considering they’re not gonna want to make it known they still don’t have a fix, when they are putting out a driver that is suppose to add the best support for a new game.
I hope they actually have figured something out.

Fix the sh*T !
Although the Nvidia staff guy recently said to me there’s no fix in this driver, he did tell me before that the 431.70 Studio driver had potential GOW4 freeze fixes that would make it into this driver, so dunno what happened there. Maybe after we let them know it didn’t work, they held it off on this driver, or like I said, could just be damage control.
It’s just really annoying that not only do the newer drivers not fix anything, they actually keep making it worse. 431.70 Studio driver, that he said had potential fixes, made the game freeze more consistently and quicker for me. Now, this new Game Ready driver makes the game freeze even faster than the Studio driver.
It literally freezes either within seconds of getting in a game, or within about a minute of getting in a game. I haven’t played a full match on this driver, it’s like they’re going backwards on a fix. Again, I’m gonna stay optimistic, but it’s kinda hard to believe they’ll just happen to get it right on the driver that comes out just in time for Gears 5.
Again, regardless of the obvious reasons for skepticism, I truly do hope there’s something to their confidence in actually finding a true fix this time.
It’s pathetic that we can’t get something from TC either not one update since the tech test besides send dumps. Man this is going to be bad for them on steam, Returns for days!!
At this point i will just sell my NVIDIA 1080 half price and then put money to buy a 2070 super or 2080 normal version. Is insane nearlky 2 years and TC can’t get a small group of programmers to fix the crashes on their game LOL
Just for the hell of it, I went and loaded up again and tried the 60 FPS cap. It seems to definitely make a difference with this driver, as I’ve played like 2 full Social matches, and just finished a ranked KOTH match and it hasn’t crashed yet, when it wasn’t letting me get past 1 minute of gameplay the 5-6 times I tried earlier. It gets pretty choppy at times though, which is really annoying.
I guess I’ll leave it like this until the new driver, because the next time I delete GOW4, I don’t see myself reinstalling. Please don’t be stringing us along Nvidia/TC, let the next driver be an actual fix.
Update: It eventually froze at the 60 cap. So, it just allows you to sometimes actually play a few games on this driver, just like the rest, it doesn’t alleviate the freezing. It’s just more mandatory with this one, seeing as it’s the only way to get past 1/10th of a single match.
yep, 436.2 driver is a fail. Froze hard 2 minutes into my first match.
I know man I’m thinking of doing something similar but I also kinda want to say screw Nvidia and grab a rx5700 xt. I’d like to say I have the will power to boycott TC and their horrendous customer service but I don’t I love gears too much to skip. They really should be ashamed, Nvidia, TC and Microsoft!
Yeah, I’m thinking of just going to an RX580 or 590, they are a pretty good value. I had an RX570 for a while but it struggled a bit at 1440p above 60Hz on ultra so I went back to the occasional crashes on my 1070ti.
Lmfao jokes on us!
this is absurd for a AAA developer owned by Microsoft
