Gears 5 spoiler will be Canon calling it

He does try to explain himself, and then a reckless and irresponsible decision that could have been avoided - again - killed a bunch of civilians(also again?) and presumably also Lizzie.

To me, the way JD was shown up until Act 1 ends basically points all to one thing - a feeling of wanting to prove his decision making and leadership skills when he should just do the job, and/or justifying his acts, although the whole thing about the protesters is uncertain on how the best way to react was, to me. The jammed rocket silo doors on Azura, the Hammer of Dawn strike when they should have focused on efforts to draw the fire of the Swarm while covering the convoy and obscuring it from the Swarm(they have to have some kind of smoke grenade on them, right?), or even just calling in more DB reinforcements as a distraction and hoping no Flocks suddenly show up, while some of them go help Lizzie’s Minotaur get free from the rubble.

I say cannon is jd dying, this way the whole story in 6 is like Dom being pissed in 3 but instead del and Marcus being pissed, gives a nice option for character development for del and for Marcus to do something drastic like sacrifices himself to end it all like I feel like that would hit a lot more, thus the legend of March phenox ends.

That worries me a lot. I really hope it’s just a glorified survey like they did with Clayton back before Gears 3 launched.
Gears has always had conviction in its storytelling and I would hate to see it spread thin like that.

They alluded to Prescott during Act 1 in regards to tough decision-making which I suppose foreshadowed both Settlement 2’s revelations and the endgame choice.

It really struck me as odd of how they react upon seeing the first sets of Swarm after either one died.
Del: “He was my friend too, let’s just get to Marcus.”
JD: Cries about Del dying, “You sons of ■■■■■■■! I’ll kill all of you!”

JD’s reaction very much reminded me of Dom in G2 and Marcus in G3 after “Brothers till the End.”

So I feel JD’s reaction was more telling towards legitimacy, but it’s the perfect story IMO.
Adam redeemed himself when he stopped the Locust. Marcus redeemed himself when he killed RAAM, sunk Jacinto, then helped stop the Locust. JD was on the path of redemption until he was sacrificed early— the ultimate tragedy.

Let’s not forget how Marcus’ tirade against Griffin held so much weight cuz he suffered immensely over that glowy goop for his entire life.

And we didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye :disappointed_relieved:

My husband and I chose Dell since it made the most sense but I really wanted to save JD, it crushed my heart to watch Marcus reaction… I’ll have to go solo and save JD.

there could have been an alternate ending where both can be saved for collecting all components, or doing all optional objectives (kinda like ghost recon wildlands). Say out of the 16 components left after fully upgrading jack, jack gets a special one-time use sword which he throws at the queen’s other tentacle to which the player chooses, or give kait a boomrang machete from the special location after all optional ones are done, which curves back to cut the other arm after player choice is made. The character JD/Del might give Kait an odd look for her choice but killing off either one was a big gut punch to an otherwise good campaign story. Somehow that one decision point, left a scar that makes me never play the game again.
