Gears 5 Sign-In Issues - STEAM EDITION. Need Help

Long story short: bought the ultimate edition of Gears 5. Had no issue trying to log in to pass the title screen until a few days ago, it suddenly stopped letting me.

Any time I try to press enter to play from the title screen, it tells me I failed to sign in to an XBL profile. Tried clicking the “Change Profile” option on the title screen and it doesn’t do anything when I press it. The only thing that lets me press anything is the quit option.

Tried uninstalling and re-installed both Gears 5 and the Xbox Companion app twice, and the issues still is the same.

Does anyone know the solution to this problem? I bought this via Steam if that means anything.

Get rid of the Xbox companion app. Get the Xbox beta app instead and you’ll be fine.

My friend had the exact same issue, which was resolved after he followed my advice.

After installing the Xbox Beta app, what should I be doing with it?

Login to your Xbox live account with it. That’s it.

Do remove the companion program from your computer before trying again though

Add/Remove programs doesn’t like to let you remove Xbox app from the PC on occasion.
You can do it through powershell though.

  1. Open the Windows 10 Search Bar, and type in PowerShell.
  2. Right-click the PowerShell app and click “Run as administrator”.
  3. Type the following command and press the Enter key:
    Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxApp | Remove-AppxPackage
  4. Wait until the process is finished. It should only take a few seconds to run.
  5. Type exit and press the Enter key to exit PowerShell.

Then get the beta app.

So I uninstalled the xbox companion app, got xbox beta app, signed in to my xbl account w/ it, restarted my pc, booted up the beta app first then launched gears 5, and i’m still experiencing the same issues. I honestly don’t know what i should do now lol

When you say stopped letting you - what, specifically, is happening?

It stopped letting me go to the main menu where everything is (campaign, versus, options, etc). I’m always stuck on the title screen. Any time I try to press enter to proceed to the main menu, it tells me I fail to sign in to an XBL profile.

Real dumb suggestion, but have you signed out of the xbox live website and then back in?

Like, have the browser on the xbox site, sign into it (sign out/sign back in) and then leave it up when you launch gears 5

I was not aware i’m suppose to do anything with the xbl website lol. Should I be signed in there or no?

Go ahead and try that. Cus it is easy enough to check as a solution.

The next thing I would recommend is go to Date and Time settings in windows 10 and make sure that “Set Time Automatically” is on.

I see that marked as a solution here… something to do with syncing time.

Short of all of that, the last issue I can think of is like if there are any blockers on your end.

I use pihole as a network adblock, for example, and need to make sure xbox domain is able to communicate properly.

Awesome. This appears to be the solution for the vast majority of people that can’t boot the game.
