Gears 5 rate on a scale to 10

Hello Gear heads.
Now that the game has hit public launch i thought it would be right to use a format The Coalition actively view, to give sound, and good feedback on the final game.
Rating the game on its 4 main modes on a 1 - 10 scale. If you rate anything to below 5 please feel free to explain exactly why, and how you would like it addressed or fixed! If you do want to give your thought on the campaign, please try keep it spoiler free, remember for public launch the game has only been out for 2 days (at time of writing this) .

Campaign 9/10
Excellent character development and story telling giving player great immersion and reason to care. Incredible world building.

Versus 8/10
Server issues were a little too problematic to ignore. However game modes are great, lovely to see a Gears game giving the option to get immersed in competitive multiplayer, without it always being about a gnasher to the face. Its a shame to see so many recycled Gears4 maps tho.

Escape 7/10
Fantastic co-op experience.
Thoroughly enjoyed it in my first few runs however it is the type of game mode that doesnt have that long a life span as it gets repetitive after awhile which is a problem.

Horde 2/10.
In my eyes the only part of Gears 5 that can truly and accurately be called a total failure is this mode they are calling “Horde”. Being locked to certain characters in a franchise were the previous instalment had over 60 characters/skins to choose from in Horde, is probably the biggest step backwards i have ever seen a development team choose to take.
This can’t even be justified by saying that TC can add more characters over time, because they have introduced this Ultimates System and chose to tie classes to characters and made it so that the characters you play as completely determine what you can do with the fabricator. Want to play as JD and would like to put down some razor wire? Tough luck, JD cant make razor wire? Wanna upgrade your turret to be more effective? Tough, JD cant do that. Hey, you wanna go to the Fab and swap that Lancer GL for a Chainsaw bayonet? Tough, the weapon section is now specific to your character and he cant buy one?

Your base is looking well fortified, looks like you put abit of work in to that, it would be a shame for the game to try encourage you to leave it every few minutes by spawning a tap on the other side of the map.
You love the design of the Carmines? The COG Gear? The E Day Gear? Great character designs, well you cant use them but just to add insult to injury the highly requested AI teammates in Horde will be them.
Horde is now, imo. Ruined in a way that can only be fixes by a complete and total re work from the ground up. Small updates and 1 - 2 characters every couple months can not fix this mode.
And that sucks to say. As I’ve been a huge Gears fan since the first game and put so much time into Horde since Gears 2. The formula to make Horde rock is so straight forward that it would be harder to mess it up than to get it right.

In summary, TC should be very proud of the beautiful looking and incredible story based campaign they have made. They should be proud of their multiplayer and Escape mode.
Voice cast are as always on point.
And even characters that weren’t that likeable in 4, are so incredible in 5. The campaign pulls at the heart strings at times, and get the adrenaline flowing in others. Top notch work TC and thank you for this experience. However, ever heard the phrase “if it aint broke dont fix it”? Horde was not broken, in needed an update for the new release to keep it fresh with new maps characters and some new guns and gimmicks. Preferably with WAAAAY less DB and more Swarm and no Kestrel boss wave.

It did NOT need a full re work from the ground up. It didn’t need ultimates or character lock and it didn’t need to strip away all things Horde. Credit for giving AI teammates, but ruined by all other aspects. Oh and someone give Laura Bailey and John DiMaggio a well earned award for an A+ performance.

Thanks

You could have just ranted about horde like everyone else without the first two paragraphs to suck up.

6.5-7/10 overall if you don’t count all the bugs and server issues. I haven’t tried campaign yet though.

And how exactly would ranting about Horde give a rating on the Campaign, Escape and Versus? The point of the thread is to rate the game in its entirety over the 4 modes. You know, LIKE THE FIRST FEW LINES OF THE POSTSAYS. Horde is a failure imo. The other parts aren’t. Acknowledging that isnt sucking up. READ MATE… READ

All the horde changes seem to have come about as common complaints from Gears 4 horde. Not a fan of character locks, but it may have been the easiest way to stop people from buying items from the fab without being an engineer. Everyone complained about bad scouts. Now everyone can pick up the power.

Had people played the game their own way with like minded people and complained less, we might have seen more modest revisions.

Campaign I’d give a 9/10. Multiplayer is TBD. Not enough time to fully adapt to the changes they’ve made, see a meta emerge, or hear what changes TC want to make first.

Campaign is largely a finished product. Multiplayer modes are a neverending work in progress.

Campaign 9/10. Dramatic, smooth (after updates), fun, beautiful

Horde 6/ 10 -
I foresee a lot of new content coming out for this but for now it feels a little bland with not enough content and character locks. I wouldn’t say a step back but I would say a step in a wrong direction. With more content and possible changes coming I see a chance of 8/10 in the future

Escape : 7.5/10 :
Fun mode and young mode
“As is” the mode is fun…similar to horde I see this score rising a lot in the future with more hive, characters, and custom maps.

Mp 8/10: Gears fans are no strangers to weapon tuning updates and hit box mishaps. This games shines in a lot of ways with multiplayer much like previous titles it’s competative and fun. New modes like arecade and escalation 2.0 opposite themselves with a “just for fun way to play” and a complex competition. NEW Daily challenges and medals offer incentive to keep playing with promise of your favorite characters being future unlocks. However, I project this score rising to a 9/10 in one or two updates time. Definitely will be getting lots of characters, maps, smoother shots, and game modes. There’s something for everyone in multiplayer.

My review is unbiased against TC. It’s hard judging a book by its cover. With so much promise this game will age well. There’s always a chance of scores dropping but I don’t see that happening. It’s all uphill from here.
