Gears 5 - My opinion behind esports funding being cut,

Gears Of war will never thrive, it’s too niche a game. I love the franchise and love mainly horde these days, as a versus game it’s dead. The hardcore fans killed it, wanting the same experience over and over. It’s a gnasher fest, which is fine if that’s what you want but the general public will never want that and that’s why it’s dying a slow death. It’s pretty clear no one wants to keep playing the same game over and over unless its a lot more fun and rewarding than gears.

The gain to put in all the time to learn all the movement and shots just isn’t worth the time. When you are losing over and over and over again it’s not even a remotely fun experience compared to losing and learning on other games. There is no variety, it’s learn to use the gnasher or quit.

Judgement had the most accessible MP but they messed it up with COG V COG and splitting the playerbase with DLC. At least it was a fun game to play. This game needs Judgement domination, perfect for 5v5 and as a very average Versus player it was just perfect to learn on. The three points usually meant you rarely went up against a full team and broke you in slowly with 1v1 or 1v2. You rarely run into 4 enemies at once or repeatedly got slain until you quit. Domination with a couple of power weapons is the perfect rookie mode.

As for making content, this is an 18 cert in the UK, adults or my generation of gamer 40+ doesn’t want to sit and watch gameplay videos or other people playing, that’s why they get so few views compared to say a fortnite, where I can see my son and his mates watching as much as they play. They can happily watch hours of their fav streamer, which I find frustrating. Just play the game! I can see why the only stuff that gets major views are tutorials and UP A clips as there’s nothing in the game to teach you this stuff.

This game isn’t a system seller anymore, if it ever was. I fully agree with the reasoning in the youtube video. Gears is just about dead in the UK as a game, the majority play through the woeful campaigns and move along.

Exactly right man @Bleeding_Pepper I rather watch " Jude Judy" on Youtube than watching people playing Gears 5 definetely.

Why’s everyone hating on this guys content? Dudes chill AF. He’s also got some pretty good ideas for the game.

I put it on while I drink coffee finish up the video later, put it on while I eat, or when I’m at work on break and I need something to listen to about news for gears. That’s what YouTube is there for.

If you need to be entertained with fireworks and a light show look elsewhere but no need to hate.

Truly. But the newest, and incoming, generation of potential Gears players have grown up spending hours watching children make millions unboxing toys on YouTube…so I really have no hope. They are content watching over participating.

Now there’s a skin i would buy😁

Yeah I don’t watch the guy either but can respect what he’s doing and if he wants to plug a video go ahead. I’m not going to bite his hand off.

So i didn’t watch the video but i assume funding for the Gears eSports is being cut? This is probably why it is cut first of all.

1- Gears community is very small now for the eSports scene to actually generate profits from viewers. While Gears is a franchise it is still niche after the failed production with 5 so the community is dwindling after many left/quit.

2- For eSports to flourise you need a BIG Community such as LOL and CS:GO Fortnite CoD to be able to host tournaments that actually generate profit as i said above. I’m saying Gears never was as big in the esports scene which brought about 8-12k viewers and only in the BIGGEST matchs which was the finals/ semi-finals in GOW4 and most people were there because of weapon skins and only about 3-4k cared about watching the pros play.

3- eSports don’t work so well for games such as gears because of the low audience count (mentioned above) so it’s understandable why TC would cut Funds for the Gears esport scene - because they don’t generate MONEY. It’s probably MS who were responsible too since they own TC studio. They are probably focusing more on Fixing the game rather than concentrating on hosting esports or anything of that sort because when the game mechanics are actually not working as intended it shows off a bad game towards external audiences.

Because the game was released unfinished and prematurely they are trying to use any funds they have to salvage what is left of the game because of the players it lost after more than 100k left and more kept leaving after the first 2-3 months of release. They probably lost a lot of money and made negative value and couldn’t even break even on the cost of the production of the game, especially because of the low price it was at which many people bought for the 1$ with the gamepass. I guess they figured they would make most of the money off the Microtransactions but they didn’t take into account a badly developed game doesn’t generate money off MT when no1 plays.

I can go on and on about numerous other issue but as I’m sure most people are aware of them and i don’t want to drag this out too long as it already is, I’ll just say the main focus now is trying to improve the game going forward esports should be the least of their concerns. Perhaps in the future of Gears 6 or something if the game is released improved and the studios listen to their hardcore fans who keep the game alive instead of catering to new players who play casually then maybe Gears would flourish. The only reason it has any players now is because of the few of us SUPER HARDCORE fans such as myself keep this game from dying.

So ill be honest I didn’t watch the video at all because I like my news to get straight to the point instead of a long drawn out discussion so when I seen the 40 odd minutes I just said ill pass lol. That being said what is the truth? or is this an opinion piece?

Watching anyone play games is one of the worst things in the world, can’t stand it. Also hate streamers, boring 20 something’s with no job playing final fantasy and talking complete nonsense! If I’m not playing games I sure as hell ain’t watching people doing it!:joy:

100% agree with what you said, the 2nd place Mc Donalds cash prize sums it up quite good.

Gears 5 Esports is where it deserves to be due to the studios own moronic decisions. At this point I don’t think it is salvageable but I’m confident once Dana quits TC, things will change for the better (how hard is for the Director of Communications to order someone to post a miserable tweet every now and then regarding esports and Gears events? ).

Another video of that long, and the viewers should have a certificate of attendance for that course.

Good. TC always focused and catered to the esport players despite it negatively affecting the normal player base.

that was their first mistakes… and now they’re paying for it.

and thats your right to choose to not watch it. Nothings forced on you mate, relax.

But you don’t need to shout “I didn’t watch this!”. I don’t go around tell people all the things I don’t watch. If you don’t like the content or the thread discussion, then don’t participate, thats fine, thats your right

But shouting about not watching adds nothing to the coversation and frankly I think some of the people are massively out of touch if they can’t see why there IS a market for viewing streams. You don’t have to personally enjoy them but some of this comments are out of touch.

Just watched the full Video.

I agree, the EU scene needs to build up their community, focus on playing for themselves and not waiting on Microsoft to inject a bunch of money into their dying side.

They got too comfortable and didn’t think they had to put in the work to grow a community of passionate players.

Gear’s pathetic versus state doesn’t help ■■■■ either.

Its their right to say or do what they want. You posted on a public forum.

Maybe if you don’t like it, you shouldn’t post.

You saying some of the comments are out of touch… why, because they aren’t watching your video? Lol.

Grow up. You’re crying because others have a opinion, that you clearly don’t like.

No one is forcing you to reply to them. Works both ways. It seems you’re the one out of touch.

Well no ■■■■ the comments are out of touch when they’re not even referring to the content of the video, this video was about the esports EU scene playing for less money. But most of the comments are.

“gud Esports is dying gud” and “I didn’t even watch the video!”

And how the comments are just about how you and others feel about Esports in general and bragging about not watching the video.

It just comes off as negative, pessimistic, and ignorant. Like why bother commenting if it’s not even about the topic of the video?

The comments still referred to OP’s post though.

Everyone is allowed their opinion.

You could pick out nearly every thread on here, if you’re gonna start nick picking about posts.

Something you see as a negative, might be a positive to someone else. Which this thread clearly shows.
