Yeah, I think the issue isn’t the relative position (OBVIOUSLY Gears won’t take over Fortnite, that’s clear), but the speed with which it id dropping DOWN in the ranking (outside of Mexico, that is)… So the apologists don’t have much to work with here…
Steam, I wouldn’t put too much focus on, Gears on PC is screwed because of driver issues and crossplay… But the xbox numbers, yeah, that’s telling…
Maybe THAT’S why when I watched the recent stream Ryan sounded very different in describing the upcoming “fixes”… Basically admitting (without saying so explicitly) that things aren’t what playerbase wants, and just trying to explain what they did and also explaining how they made mistakes in making things too bland, too “safe”, too “stable” or whatever words they used, I don’t remember…
There is a definite change in tone that I detected, from the (IMO) arrogant “our numebers tell us THIS is the way to bring new players in” to “hmm… yeah, ok, maybe we went a little too far in the wrong direction.”
Ohhh, totally, 100%, there are MANY reasons why it is dropping… TC can’t do anything about a lot of those (new games people want to try, etc), but they CAN do something about SOME of them ( fans of GoW4 Versus leaving G5 because the Versus feels awful )…
Link. I am glad you are enjoying the game. I see you every thread defending TC and thier questionable decisions. The game is great for you and I am happy you are enjoying it. However you coming into these threads and says it’s sad just play the game is ignorant. This is a forum where opinions are to be shared. You can disagree, sure, all part of a forum but let’s not act like anyone elses opinion isnt valid because it does not align with your own. Same could be said of you. Instead of playing the game you enjoy you are on the forums telling people how wrong they are. Just go play the game! See how that goes?
I do not blindly defend TC. I’ve criticized them many times actually. Difference is I do it fairly and with a level head. Acknowledge the bad but also acknowledge the good. I speak out against some of the over the top and exaggerated comments I see. Plain and simple.
And I play the game a lot. I don’t post the same negative threads every 5 minutes on a daily basis like some do here. It’s become an obsession.
Well I agree with you that not everyone has a level head I am not advocating ■■■■ posting or attacking the devs. I know it can be cumbersome seeing the same thing over and over. I just wanted to point out that opinions are valid all the same. I do agree there is a sort of obsession with the games standings however it is a bit relevant where gears has always been a massive selling point for microsoft and with reviews on the platform they are not too flattering.
Personally I am a HUGE believer in “everyone likes different things”, so it’s totally expected that no matter what happens, no matter what changes are made, there will be SOME people who will like it…
Seems like @Link23809 likes G5 Versus - good for you, man…
I take no pleasure from the recent release of the latest from the franchise I love dropping in free fall in terms of player numbers. I want the game to succeed, I want it to be around for a long time for me to enjoy…
I DO take some satisfaction from the fact that TC’s carefully considered, analyzed, discussed, collectively decided on, and pre-announced even (in hindsight) move to sacrifice and betray (studio head’s word) those who loved PAST Gears versus game play in favor of appealing to casuals is hugely back firing (as far as I can see).
The tone of the streams/podcasts changed dramatically in the very recent past, I suspect (hope??) that they are realizing the gravity of the situation… New players are not materializing in the high numbers they expected , and old players are leaving in higher numbers than they expected…
They were CONVINCED that this was the RIGHT strategy for expanding the franchise. That was clear from countless dev streams, posts, pre-launch interviews, etc… By hammering these numbers down their throats I’m hoping they will finally give up and admit their failure.
Now, there are a lot of considerations at play: public company, budget, bonuses, promotions, plus simple egos too… So I don’t expect anyone to come out and say “we totally screwed up, here, we are reverting back to GoW4 Versus movement mechanics, moving chainsaw back on B, etc”…
They will make small incremental changes, bit by bit, hoping players come back… It’s a trade off - do too much too quickly and you are openly admitting you screwed up HUGE. Take too long, players would have moved on and won’t come back no matter what…
Now Re
I FRACKING HATE the Versus gameplay now. So no, I won’t go and play it. I play few rounds of coop, I will play few rounds of Versus IF a number of my friends are on and playing, because I enjoy their company… I don’t enjoy the game play, I am still around out of momentum and inertia, hoping that my patience will be rewarded with changes which make G5 as exciting and exhilarating to me as GoW4 was (in Versus terms).
I don’t care honestly. With FFA and more coming in Operation 2 I’m not worried. Yesterday I played some games and I’ve noticed less sponge than last week, I’m getting used by the movement (I felt it pretty weird the first times) and I’m enjoying it so much right now. The only thing that I hate is the teammates in KOTH, but with FFA I will be fine
Just imagine if we went back to the good old days where you played a game with no earnable characters/weapon skins and played with the same 8 or so characters everytime. Ahhhh Gears of War was great back then. Now a days, it seems everyone is entitled so some content now which really does ruin the fun for a lot of games. It’s all about content now. Don’t get me wrong, I love the games that are out now. They have come a long way from Nintendo and whatnot but man, Link gets my vote on this, just play the game and enjoy it instead of worrying how to get a character skin.
Oh dont get me wrong. Any of my complaints come from a game play stand point. We could never see anything ever again (with the exception of maps) and you wouldn’t hear a peep from me. I do not enjoy the baffling design decisions in this game. The over stuff is all white noise but I jump into some topics to just converse about them even if it dosent pertain to my issues with the game or non issues.
haha, I usually find 1-2 characters I love and I just stick to them for the duration of the game… In GoW4 it was the BS Medic/eday gear on the cog side, and the sniper/savage locust granadier elite… I don’t care about earnable characters or weapon skins…But I am perfectly happy to pay for a skin/set if I like it…
In Gears 5, I am playing as the female COG, and I don’t expect to see any character which would make me want to buy grind for it, to replace the one I’m playing. I was a little unhappy about the lack of interesting characters on the swarm side, but the frankenstein imago kinda grew on me, so I’m set there too…
So for me, earnable or purchasable content means nothing, in Gears 5… Couldn’t care less about ToD rewards in the future, or what the store has or what totems there are (for weapon skins I brough over my black phantom ones, and I was using those, until I finished the first ToD (gotta do the FIRST ONE, right ? ) and got the team rock skins which ARE pretty cool).
^^^^^^^^^^^^ 100% ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
If I like the game play, I will pay for content which I don’t really need to help support the game… if I don’t enjoy the game play (like currently is the case) I will pay for NOTHING…
Now, in the spirit of honesty, i did buy some iron at the start and I did buy some packs/skins, again at the start, to show my support and excitement for the game…
It’s only been since then that the extend of the changes and the methodical, thought out process BEHIND those changes became more visible that I totally adopted a play-to-rule attitude, which includes zero spending in the store
Me too man I mean I bought the windflare skin for the lancer to show support onto the game. however its not the same as to provide support, than on the other hand support the slack of people involved in the game and them not doing anything to fix it.
If the game its better and get’s fixed I’m sure a lot of people will spend more in the characters, skins and stuff… I do realize most of us love the game and would like to get it better at the end man.
You may not have been posting these threads on a daily basis, but you have been posting in them. I see you in like every other thread white knighting TC.
Is it hard to fathom that people who generally don’t like the game would be posting threads highlighting the current state of things instead of actually playing it like you propose?
However, what is stopping someone like you who claims to enjoy the game so much from playing it? All that valuable time you spend here defending TC could be spent playing that great game you love so much.
Now, while I agree with your statement, I do think that, in the name of fairness, we do need to admit one thing.
There are many things I (and others too) hate about G5 Versus game play, and I do say so, and explain why/how.
It IS only fair that someone who might LIKE the G5 Versus game play, be equally vocal about explaining his point of view, and trying to answer some of the points…
I just have a problem with the deflections and the misdirections, in such posts (people complain about over active aim assist, link says “aim assist existed in all the game”: something that’s true but which bypasses the
actual criticism - that type of stuff… ) OR plain dismissal (like “stop complaining and play” - that’s just stupid, IMO)…
