Gears 5 Main Ranking Thread

I had a game couple of days ago (I think I have the screenshot on my xbox, but haven’t uploaded it yet) where the skill points difference between the teams was 20,000

yes, twenty thousand… it something something like 55,000 vs 75,000…

Come on… really?? How is that in any way realistic ?

I still don’t get how this works. I lost 5 points in a match and went from diamond 1 to 2.

This trash continues to happen.

I have never seen this much quiters in a competitve game before,

TC must do something about those quitters or there will be like only 100 players + the quitters who plays the ranked in the near future…

None can keep up with this frustration…

■■■■ me then, I guess?

A literal waste of time and effort

This thread that’s gaining traction on reddit is the reason why nobody will be satisfied till TC begins to break down why you lost pts per round on the final screen. At first glance, guy looks like he did well, until you watch the full stream located here:

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/516636167 (Match start right at around 2 hours)
Round 1: 14 elims & 2 deaths (Good)
Round 2: 9 elims & 3 deaths
Round 3: 9 elims & 4 deaths
Round 4 11 elims & 1 death (Good)

And either round 2 or 3 was a stalemate meaning not only did he perform his worst there, but he’s also losing pts per minute every moment he’s permanently dead spectating one of his teammates.

I’d be willing to bet 95% of all matches are just like this one. People see a high ending score and don’t account / remember anything else. People don’t get into Masters by just playing well. You have to play at your expected performance level. I’ve got tons of guys on my friendslist that do respectable every match, pulling lets say 10 kills and 4 deaths… But just because they can do that every match, doesn’t mean they should be placed at the exact same level as a guy that goes 15 and 4 every match.

If people want to actually provide the dev with quality feedback, you need to provide the entire picture… Not useless, single screenshots like @Stewarto just above me. (Sorry @Stewarto but it’s true. You’re not giving anything useful here)

I posted pics earlier where I won two rounds, did virtually the same in terms of eliminations, caps, breaks, etc in each round, and got 4 times as many points in the first round as in the second round.

The definition of “at your performance level” is a very fluid one, and extremely susceptible to extremely tiny changes in parameters we frequently don’t have any control over…

if i was to take a guess, I’d say "since you’re so high you’re expected to totally kick as every round… And you didn’t totally kick as the first round… "…

that’s probably what TC would say…

Yea. Nobody knows every parameter that’s tracked / ultimately in charge of determining pts. All I’m saying is, this is a class example of how nobody actually bothers to look at their round to round performance… 90% of people whining post final score screen, show they lost points, and proceed to make the 1565th post showing the same, insufficient information while pretending it actually has a point.

Dutch’s match above does look like BS… Until you break down the rounds one at a time, realize that he in fact wasn’t playing like a D3 or a Masters in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, and suddenly his pt loss in those instances begin to make a lot more sense vs “I had 43 elims, I did the best. I shouldn’t be going down” when in fact you played average as hell / below what you should have been in the rounds highlighted.

Its rough, I dropped down to Diamond 1 for 3 loses, not even in a row. Its near impossible to keep rank, or gain further xD

I really hope at least in TDM that some sort of KDR multiplier can be used to help the players who are going out of their way to not throw team lives away per round. Feels bad when I died all of 3 times, and lost mad points.

Should encourage players to be cautious and support if they are losing gnasher fights left and right, and punish the people who lost the most lives accordingly.

Finished a KOTH yesterday lost 2000 points on a game despite doing well against people way above my level did a second to try to at least get up and got 2500 on first round but losing second and first round made me lose 1300 points and another 800-1000 so I gained barely anything despite also doing fairly well against again people above me yet I am in silver II and I am trying to get faster control setups despite being max sense on all,tourn,with 9 deadzones .

Seems like my days of getting gold III are over and I might as well kiss my ■■■ goodbye to Golden Lancer because I cant go on like this with this much time too many loses and teams not pulling or just the team I am on is good but the other team got the skill of diamonds and I cant get a group/make friends to play gears to try to at least make it gold+ and any friends that I do arent really into it.

I heard it depends on past performance well I dont see why it expects extremely good performance against better players way above me I cant even get close to without being headshot by the gnasher while they zoom in and out or just being able to wallbounce well which I cant even do anymore due to the slowness I am dealing with.

Anyway that was my stupid rant I guess just losing those points got to me and made me realize how utterly screwed I probably am unless I go against a low level team which even when that happens if I win and get points next 10 games is gonna be good players who have learned to actually move fast unlike me who tampers with control every match after.

Im Diamond 3 and receiving bronze and silver players as teammates, while the enemy team has at least 15,000 score over us. I understand you have to consider players and connectivity for matchmaking; also the fact that some players will be better than you, but at the very least when I’m fighting master players and winning 2-0 I shouldn’t lose points at all. Especially when I’m MVP ffs.

So I went from top 6% to top 11% after losing a game 0-2. Then we won the match after 2-1 and I had 97 kills. I went down from winning that match from top 11% to top 15%. WTF?? Im literally getting scre*ed out of this image image image

Hey guys. I thank you in advance for taking the time to read this because it is a long post. I was thinking of a new ranking system idea for gears 5. One that is simple and easy to follow that always gives you an idea of how someone plays. Ill do my best to explain it. Every game type has its own categories that you are ranked on. For this I will use King of the Hill as an example.

To start. it is a point based system where each category allows you to earn up to 10 points. The categories will be

Kills per match (average)
Wins/Loss ( average)
Points per minute (average)
Assists per match where you did more than 50% to help get the kill ( average)
Caps per match (average)
Breaks per match (average)
Kill/Death (average)

The way it works is that your overall average for each category gives you points based on your average.
Example : kills/death average
0.0 = 0 points
0.3 = 1 point
0.6 = 2 points
1.0 = 3 points
1.3 =4 points
1.6 = 5 points
2.0 = 6 points
2.2 = 7 points
2.4 =8 points
2.7 = 9 points
3 = 10 points

Now apply the same point concept to the other categories and add all your points up

Lets say if your points adds up like this

0<7 =bronze
8<15 = silver
16<23 = gold
24<31 = Onyx
32 < 39 = Diamond
40 < 50 = Masters
51 < 70 = Godlike

in between those tier is like bronze 1,2,3 etc

Keep in mind that these are examples and all of these numbers would need to be tweaked to make it realistic and attainable. This way you and other people can look at your stats and overall points and see how you play. Also this gives you the option to hit ranks based off of certain categories if you perform well enough. But this also show you and others what your weakness are.

Example stat screen would look like this (This is just complete random numbers that i think would be somewhat realistic but you get the idea)

Kills per match = 20 kills average = 3 points
Wins/Loss = 1.9 average = 8 points
Points per minute = 450 points average per minute = 6 points
Assists per match where you did more than 50% to help get the kill = 27 assist average = 9 points
Caps per match= 4 caps average per match = 2 points
Breaks per match= 9 breaks average per match = 7 points
Kill/Death = 1.3 k/d overall = 4

total points = 39 = diamond 5 borderline masters level player.

from the stats you can deduce that this player is a crazy support player who is not afraid to get in the hill and make moves. Not a strong slayer but hey they enable the rest of their team members to be slayers and knows what it takes to win. I would like to play with this person

Another Example

Kills per match = 70 kills average = 9 points
Wins/Loss = 1.1 average = 4 points
Points per minute = 400 points average per minute = 5 points
Assists per match where you did more than 50% to help get the kill = 4 assist average = 2 points
Caps per match= 1 caps average per match = 1 points
Breaks per match= 3 breaks average per match = 2 points
Kill/Death = 2.5 k/d overall = 8

total points = 31 = Onyx 3 could be diamond easily or masters if they worked on their team work and playing objective

from the stats you can deduce that this player doesnt give a damn about the objective and not a team orientated person but has amazing slaying capabilities. this player could be diamond easily or masters if they worked on their team work and playing objective

So thats the rough concept i came up with it. Most definitely it needs work but i hope i was able to get the idea across. What do you guys think.Garbage idea or i am on to something. Honesty please. Thanks!

since this post 7 days ago I went from Diamond 1 to Gold 2, I was basically diamond from the first week of launch up to the recent reset, playing solo is not really an option anymore, I’ve been playing duo and always matched up with mediocre teammates. Running into 5 stacks more than before, getting paired up with teammates who get 15+ deaths a game, often being thrown in matches where I have 50 more ping than everyone else, before the update I was steady rolling 30-40 ms per game.

I understand the meaning of a rank reset, but how the hell does one have diamond for 2+ months and then within a week drops down to gold 2? something is off, and I’m positive it’s not my gameplay.

What a great and riveting match this was, one for the ages

I was 13-1 middle of the board.

Is this the only game where you can lose points if you win?

If your rank could never drop below whatever tier you’re currently in, I.E. you can drop from silver 3 to 2, but you can’t drop from silver 1 to bronze 3 no matter what, I would be less bothered by the absolute pitiful amount of points you’re awarded for wins vs. the large amount you lose for losses.

The whole ranking system problem summed up in a single sentence, pretty much.
