That’s thing man, once you’re not in Bronze/Silver you don’t lose points by the thousands. You probably could if you play exceptionally bad but you lose points relative to the rank/skill group you are in currently.
If you friend does well in whatever rank he’s at he could probably gain points by the thousands too. That doesn’t happen at higher ranks because it can’t happen. There isn’t thousands of points left when you get there…
It scales.
Could just be one really bad round too unfort. It’s honestly a lot rougher for Diamond players too because their expectations are much higher even though they lose less points for losses.
If you go like 15-3 and only gain 0-10 points afterward (pretty common in high skill games) but have one off game or round you could lose like 20-70 points.
That could be 2-7 games (or more) worth of progress lost just like in lower tiers. The only difference is the points aren’t lost in the thousands but they’re not gained that way anymore either.
The system is brutal and I can’t say a necessarily agree with it but it’s for sure working the way they intended it to.
