Gears 5 is a flop

Gears of War 3 physical sales numbers in first week:

3 million.

Gears 5 number of players who played in the week of release through a renting subscription for games:

3 million

Gears of War 3 sales in UK: 323.000

Gears 5 sales numbers in UK: 16.000

Something is definitely declining, no matter all the pretty words MS uses in their press statements. It goes to show how the Xbox brand has declined since Don Mattrick took over and nearly destroyed it and what a life saver GP has been for MS.

Now the question remains how many will stay subscribed to GP and how TC can make money through this game with MTX.

I agree with you on that man. Hopefully enough hardcore players stay or new players so we can have a good population on all aspects of the game a year or more down the line.

Yeah for sure, does worry me a bit considering all the different modes

Of course MS won’t stop Game Pass, it saved their brand and business. Otherwise this would’ve been their last console generation.

Take a look at Forza Horizon 4 which launched about this time last year on Xbox Game Pass. They had 2 million players first week. Now they have surpassed 12 million total, with 4 million monthly active players. I’d say it’s looking pretty good for Gears 5.

3 million+ players opening weekend

Wow thats a real shame because Gears 5 is far better than Gears 4. But I can totally see why it did poorly with MS promoting Game Pass down our throats with this game . I totally agree that Game Pass is horrible because it incentives developers to rush their games and at the same time receive a subsidy from MS to put it in their Game Pass to minimize their losses with developing costs. It is a brilliant move from both the developer and MS point of view and at first the consumers will see a net benefit from this because they can essentially play any game they want with a small monthly fee. But in the long run its going to water down games even more than it already is. Maybe I can be wrong on this assessment but I hate to see a future were all of our games will be only provided through a rental service and the days of owning either physical or digital copy of a game will cease to exist.

Did they really remove negative reviews on the xbox store? If so, how did the FIFA 19 reviews stay up?

You can still purchase the games without subscribing to Game Pass. Rushing games to get them on the service isn’t a recipe for success for Microsofts first party games because they’re incentive to get people subscribed and keep players subscribed.

Most third party/indy games are available on other platforms so they aren’t going to risk sales or their reputations by releasing rushed games just to get a payment from Microsoft.

Bottom line this Gears is a clean updated version not to mention all the content that comes with it…I am surprised to see so many haters in this discussion. It’s has some of the same problems as all the gears Gears 4 was the one I played the most re-up 12 times had a lot of fun with that game and it’s translating over to the new one.

Game pass is a nice touch to play other games you won’t purchase or play with a fried.

Did poorly? They doubled the amount of launch week players from Gears of War 4. Xbox cares about individual sales about as much as Netflix care about DVD-sales… Xbox Game Pass is where its at now.

Watered down? Do you think the quality of TV-series has gone down with the rise of subscription/streaming services such as Netflix? Did HBO lower their quality after they started their streaming subscription service?

Who held the old records and what were they?

Op I get you. Maybe you went a bit overboard on the gamepass thing since I personally love it, but I get your original point. Gears 5 mp is a travesty. Just simply look at the reviews on the actual store page on xbox. Nothing but negativity for it. They ruined the franchise indeed.

He is clearly referring to Gears 5. The reviews are bad. I’ve read them on the Xbox page. They have been removing negative reviews. This guy is stating the truth.

Game pass is great service, I disagree with him there, but I also agree that they can’t brag about number of players when gamepass had a $2 deal just to get people to try Gears 5. It’s a main exclusive on Xbox so of course people are going to be willing to try it. Smite has a TON of players as well, simply because it’s free. Although I do enjoy that game, bragging about the number of players who have played it is irrelevant, what truly matters is how many are going to keep coming back, ho many are going to invest in the product for quality of life?

Right now it’s looking like they already lost a huge amount of players. It’s no t the game is horrible, it has a ton of potential, but there is so many minor things wrong they add up to be a major problem. If you can’t see that then people like you are putting this game into an early grave.

In this case, not at all. You’re thinking of this as a gamer, not a businessman. They’re bragging to their stockholders that this game, which is being heavily, heavily used as a marketing tool for their subscription service, has 3 million, many of whom are playing on gamepass, many of whom will continue to sub. They’re basically telling their stockholders that their flagship titles increase subs. They aren’t concerned with how many people are still playing Gears in six months. They don’t care how many people are still subbed to Game Pass in six months.

Gears is it’s own IP, it also has its own stock, if it performs badly with making its own capital its stock will take a dump. Quality of life is most definitely important for anything. If it’s not bring in money then there’s not going to be much of a stock, investors also look at consumer happiness, probability of whether or not it can sell.

The old records were for Microsoft’s own games on it’s own Game Pass. Games like Halo 5 and stuff like that. Not a big deal. It’s just marketing. Come on GOW can’t break COD records in sales or GTA 5 records. It’s all about the Game Pass Subscription numbers not really the Gears 5 game sales for Microsoft.

They still want and need that micro transaction money.

I really don’t get the people are saying this is bad , but have no analytics to back thier claim… Obviously they are running a basic subscription business model. To assume 80_90 % payed a dollar is a fallacy… You literally need to understand that subscription models are successful when people engage. Gamepass was successful before gears … there are facts to back that claim… How about just don’t buy the game or Xbox anymore and speak with your wallet…
