Gears 5 is 22nd Most Played Game On Xbox

Exactly bring back the lootbox system from 4 where if you didn’t get the new character the the week it dropped with the currency you earned you either had to pay real money for a chance at it, or wait 3 months until it was added to the scrap pool!!!

Are you seriously trying to go there in a Gears forum?

You realize gears 3 was also my little pony with those weapon skins right?

I admit some weird skins were added on gears 3 however it wasn’t of that importance, no one used them.

They’re equally not as important as 5 since they don’t impact gameplay lol. It’s just a. Weapon skin

You still don’t seem to say anything about the overwhelmingly negative response to the game, the majority from veterans.

But sure, let’s just sit here with a fingers in our ears and pretend like a flagship holiday release losing so many players that it’s behind games released over a year ago is perfectly fine because “it’s Gears.” The writing is all over the wall for this game and if you and TC can’t see it then so be it.

It’s kinda hard to play a game that’s all online, and at least a few times per week the servers go down when you get off work. I’m not sure it’s even people dont want to play it, or if its yah cant play it even if you wanted to.

That stuff just gets old and people lose interest. People lose their jobs in operations at my job when that becomes a reoccurring theme every week. Could care less how long they were with the company, bring in somebody who has experience preventing problems, not reacting to them. Hire some contract consultants or something. Guess it’s a different industry.

i agree, however Gears 5 is presented, with the tonned down violence as with expensive accesorize stores you have to agree that its “cabbagge patch” version of the true nature of Gears of Wars games in every sense.

heck even the WAR word was deleted, how much evidence you want to truly acknowledge its a lowered version of the core game.

Gears of War has certainly been a very acquired taste for a long time, however, it has been fairly successful. With that said I do feel like 5 being hyped up as much as it was via advertisements and products marketed combined with it being on GP, it should be higher up on the list then it currently is.

I’m really disappointed of Gears 5, but I guess numbers like that don’t tell us much. Yes, #22 (or even #18 what it was when I looked it up) really looks bad, but even if they did everything right it would have been hard to stay in top 10 or even worse in top 5.

The problem is that TC had to do everything to keep as many players in the game as possible. Microsoft marketed it as part of the Game Pass. They didn’t even try to convince you to buy it for 70+€. So most are only paying 10-12 € for more than just Gears. So it’s very unlikely Gears will contribute 70+€ to the revenues with that system. That’s where the service game aspect kicks in. They have to sell as much via Microtransactions as possible to fill that gap. And to do so they have to maintain a huge player base, a player base bigger than just us Vets.

So they decided to make a game everyone will love: open world lovers, PVE guys, Overwatch addicts, us Vets and everyone else on this planets. But by trying to create a game everyone loves and designing every gametype around it, they lost focus. None of these groups is really happy. It’s too much Gears for Casuals and not enough for the Vets, it’s too much open world for story lovers and not enough for open world fans, too much grind for average players and not enough (and not rewarding enough) for loot shooter players. And don’t forget that they would have to offer tons of content to make all happy, more than possible.

That results in many being unhappy and everyone playing it less than expected.

How would they have been able to keep many people playing and everyone being happy? Focus!
Offer a intense campaign take the time needed to build the two empty open worlds and add a few more chapters. So those who love a strong singleplayer experience would have been happy. The open world fans won’t have been, but they have GTA, RDR2, Witcher 3, AC Odyssey,… You really think you can compete with them with those two small open world parts? I hope you don’t.
Add a really polished version of Horde for the PVE guys and Casuals. Make it a loot shooter experience with more variety in maps, tactics and characters. Give them a progression system that let’s them hunt for the perfect version of a weapon. That said you would have to add values to the weapons, but only for Horde. Create big maps with secrets to discover and different “boss fights”.
Finally create a Versus that is 100% Gears making Vets and Pros happy. Yes many Casuals won’t like this experience but they don’t even like it now in its current casual friendly state. Implement a working matchmaking that gives you opponents on your skill level. This way it’s less frustrating for everyone and even new players are more likely to stay. And yes a map count of minimum 10 would have been necessary to prevent that players are thinking you’re keeping something back so you can give us “free” content for the next year.
What about Escape? It shouldn’t have been added. I love to play it, it’s really fun. But it’s nothing that will keep players aboard for months. It would have been better to use the resources to make the other parts of the game great.

This way you would have kept everyone happy and they would be willing to pay for some stuff (at more reasonable prices than now) in your store.

And one last thing: Talk to us! You did that before and right after the launch, but it feels like now as criticism is rising you’re not doing this in the same way you’ve already done it.

This is a very intelligent take. Trying to monetize through micro-trash-actions means that nothing good is attainable through the grind. They want you to purchase it…not earn it. I played up until level 65 or so. Then, all the infuriating performance issues mixed in with blood sprays, banners, and an art deco gun skin being the sum of my grind pushed me over the edge. I dont mind throwing my money into a game when it runs well , but im closing my wallet when the the performance is as bad as my Gears 5 experience was. Getting headshot by every 8 year old that picked up a sniper rifle and pointed it in my general area got old. Watching an opponents back sponge an entire lancer clip of mine and then burp and down me with a glancing shot to the ankle got old. Getting absolutely demolished by squads of Pros while im basically playing random.solo squads got old. Being forced to pick another character in Horde, when my level 9 Jack was overridden by a level 1 got old. Having a player somehow do a complete 180 and gib me faster than by me just pulling a trigger and shooting them in the back after id snuck up on them from behind got old. Having my 300 meg, hardwired, fiber to the router internet connection lag like I was playing on a 256k/128k wireless connection got really old. Grinding to level 65 and only having blood sprays and banners to show for it got old. It just became…UNFUN.

those who try to wide their focus a lot usually are the ones who lost focus on the things that matter,

Gears 5 in that aspect its like Rod said before, " a game where everyone can find something to do" , however that was the TRUE MISTAKE they make by creating a game that tries to satisfy everyone, and as you said in the end it doesnt satisfy nobody.

I truly believe that if the game would be focused on the vets and people that truly knows how to play it they would have earned a lot of dollars in their mickey mouse store, since if the players are happy they usually buy stuff from the game itself without a doubt.

I’m sure it has something to do with them plastering Cosmetics and Micro transactions all over it days before release. I love the game to death but the moment people see this kind of stuff it leaves a bad taste in their mouth. TC ■■■■■■ up the marketing for this one big time

You can’t say it’s losing players when it never had that many to begin with lol. It’s not a top ten caliber game. But it doesn’t matter because you’ll keep playing it

I’m personally taking a break from the game until a few more significant updates have been released along with more content aswell as sorting out the grind issues to unlock said content.

There’s so much that needs to be addressed that Id just get frustrated if I stuck around (hence a lot of the angst on these forums from many others & myself included).

Going off their track record, they do fix, balance, and release adequate content etc eventually so I don’t think Gears 5 will be any different… only problem is how long they take to get there. They started off by seriously pissing off the core community so wether or not they can win us back over time (which btw they shouldnt have to do in the first place if they delivered a solid content rich package from day one)… only time will tell…

I love Gears. I want Gears to win. But if TC are putting off players like me then they have zero chance with the casual crowd they seem so eager to impress over the long term.

Oh and I will NEVER purchase a single microtransaction for this game. Every time I see how The Coalition have handled it in Gears as far as costs, content etc I can only think of one word. GREED.

I will be back,… I love Gears too much not to (it’s the ONLY reason I switch on my X1) but I can’t be the only one sitting out a couple months til they get their sh*t together??

Childish to say he’s entitled to his opinion after making a foolish comment like “you don’t like it because you suck at this game”.

I have a ton of Gears friends I’ve met over the years and, 1 month in, very few of them are still playing the game. Some of them refused to buy it in the first place even though they love the other Gears games. If you like it, that’s great. I’m happy when I hear that at least some people like it. I’m not trying to sway or sell opinions. Fact remains that a LOT of passionate fans have rejected this game and we can’t just pretend that isn’t happening.

Good assessment. Their mistake was that, in trying to draw in a new crowd, they dumbed it down, rather than making it cool and appealing. So, you have game that lost a lot of it’s gameplay strengths, and doesn’t have the personality (characters, art, visual style, etc) it needed to bring in new players.

I think that’s a fair place. Not every game can be as beloved and successful as Farming Simulator 19.

Currently there’s multiple games offline though m sounds like a ddos on the xb servers
