Gears 5 is 22nd Most Played Game On Xbox

even SEVEL ELEVENS STORES has marketing on Gears 5 , below the CARTA BLANCA BEER I’ve seen ads of Gears 5 .

Well 1-3 were all in the top 10 of most unique GTs to have accessed the game during the year of their release, according to Major Nelson. And Gears was first place back in 06. It doesn’t necessarily mean that it was the most sold, as back then digital purchases had yet to become the norm and people were still borrowing games from each other and buying used copies from GameStop/EB Games, but it is a strong indicator that it would be around that spot.

As for top 10 sold for each of those games altogether, even when compared to games from other platforms, I’ll have to double check, but it is in the realm of possibility.

EDIT: So even when compared to all other games from all existing platform that existed for each game at their release year, GoW and GoW3 did manage to take a spot in the top 10 most sold game each of their release years. Having trouble finding the numbers for GoW2, but assuming GoW2 did sell better than GoW3 did, it’s safe to assume it also took a spot in the top10 best sold game in its release year.

Gears 1-3 were system sellers. Especially gears 1.

So your point is that the player base is plummeting simply because its a Gears game? I’m not sure how you can genuinely come to this conclusion when the feedback for the game has been overwhelmingly negative for the past month and a half. If the game was great then the game wouldn’t be in free fall on the most played charts. People aren’t playing it because they aren’t enjoying it, simple as that.

Please the to keep up I can’t simplify it any more.

What I said was the game isn’t a popular game that gets the attention of a wide range of gamers. Saying a gears is dead because it’s 22nd on most played is pretty dumb considering it never was a huge top ten title to begin with. It’s not something that can compete with sports titles, fortnite, cod etc.

It’s like saying a fighting game is dead because it’s not in the top ten. How many people really care to buy fighting games? Most don’t but they have their small niche communities to keep them going. Gears falls into that category of niche gamers.

It launched as the most played game on xbox live. If it launched at something like 10th or 15th then yeah you’d have a point, but to launch as the most played game on the entire platform and then plummet out of the top 20 amid constant negative feedback is not just something you shrug off and say “well it’s Gears so…”

Hahaha I love knowing this games a failure, its one step closer to TC being replaced and true gears fans and devs being installed.
Gears of war 3 had more people online on launch despite the lies of those in charge stating gears 5 was the largest launch and blah blah blah.

Gears 3 had more players at launch than gears 5,these are facts.

And? This is normal for Gears of War, but the thing is Xbox Game Pass and here in Brazil Gears 5 is the most popular game from Xbox Game Pass. I have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate since 2018 and it’s amazing! Playing Gears 5 since early acess and giving my money to Microsoft.

Translation::

you suck at Gears 5, and you were good at Gears 3 therefore Gears 5 sucks… not you.

I’m great at both.

And you’re absolutely wrong about old school Gears heads not loving this game.

They don’t come much more old school than me. Been on board since Gears one launch.

You’r e entitled to your opinions, but not to put words in the mouths of us old school Gears Heads.

There are so many of us that love this game. But then we love all of them. We’re real Gears fans.

Really I think the reason the player base has gone down is because die hard Gears players are the only ones that play anymore.

Like I’ve said before, Gears is for most people a singleplayer/co-op campaign game. Some people also play the various PvE-modes, and a small itsy bitsy tiny part of all players play the ranked Versus for an extended period of time. Gears PvP is very, very niche.

Most people played the game around launch, spent their 15-20 hours on campaign and whatnot and then moved on. Of course the game wont stay in the top 10, how is that a surprise? It says absolutely nothing about “state of the game”. The game was a great success and it drove people to try Xbox Game Pass, both on console and on PC which all of the marketing was about as well.

The problem this go around isn’t a lack of interest or player base. The ridiculous performance problems( sponging, bullet magnetism, hit box irregularities, piss poor ping, weird matchmaking, odd and grindy progression, not so great rewards(banners and bullet sprays-with no skins), way overpriced cosmetics, and locked out characters in horde is in my opinion what drove lots of players that were excited about the game away. You can’t treat a pay to play title like a f2p one. Going back and playing gears 4, everything is so much better and so much more fun than 5. Not being able to earn any cool gun skins or player skins without paying is no fun for anybody. I played up to level 65, and the only thing I got that wasn’t either a banner or a blood spray, was an art deco gun skin and a dee bee gun skin. Oh, and the Baptista skin…which everybody got. Plus, I got tired of having a 300 meg hard wired fiber to the router internet connection that performed like a 256k/128k wireless connection. Got old fast dumping a lancer clip into somebodys back only to then have the player eat every bullet of mine and then down me with 2 glancing lancer shots to my ankle. Lets be honest, very poor performance and mechanics, bad maps, and greedy monetization is what ran everybody off. Not this perception that Gears isn’t meant to be a game with large scale popularity. Sadly, the game had everything in place to be very very successful. As much as it hurts to say this…The Coalition ■■■■ the bed to some extent. Noob friendliness drove away hard cores. Noobs very rarely provide staying power. And, it was probably Microsofts idea to try and monetize gears like its Fortnite. I will always be a Microsoft supporter. However in this case, the masses have spoken. Not every game is meant to be a money printing machine. The lesson to me here is this, if you make a quality product, with quality performance and quality mechanics, and have quality incentivized rewards, the money will follow. Do the opposite and your game will flame out as quick as a party with a turd in the punch bowl. Toodles.

TC Should read this…

You do realize this is how releases work for most things not just gaming. Albums, movies etc all have their highest sales and engagement during the first week and then things die down. A bunch of people tried gears, probably didn’t like it because it’s not what they’re used to and they left. Hate to break it to you but gears isn’t the juggernaut you think it is lol

It is man, its the man’s game of the century however TC made "MY LITTLE PONY " version of it, but it will ALWAYS be " THE MAN’S GAME " in games history.

Not surprising. What do you expect when you microtranactions every possible thing you can? I miss the the loot box system. At least you had skins to work towards. The only good skins are the only
Ones you have to buy. So it’s turning people away from it

Given the GOW servers are down all the time, 22nd most played sounds about right given players don’t get to play it that much.

I didn’t try to sound as one… however that’s the true nature of the game.
