Gear 5 Horde thoughts and discussion

I agree with you it’ll be so annoying if I can’t use Clayton in horde let alone, it’ll be worse if I can’t use him because someone else picked him. Why should I be punished because we both love the same character this isn’t siege or league of legends

Did anyone notice the Elite Hunter could go invisible or cloak? At 9:30.

And Private Casan seems to be AI Soldier name.

I love that they cloak and apparently also use smokes. Also happy the grenadiers use flashbangs

Yeah, it took me a while to figure this out. I saw Elite Hunter with Smoke and Elite Grenadier with Flashbang. But not sure if this applied to normal Hunter and Grenadier. I’m expecting the normal Grenadier to have Frag Grenades though. But haven’t seen them toss yet.

The way they actually handle it in game looks terrible too. Watch the Escape video where they choose characters. The game says it will “resolve conflicts automatically when the match starts” as if it’s going to auto change it for you, which will result in even more quitting.

I understand a bit, why they made it this way. Character locked heroes, no duplicate. Let’s say we have two Kait.

Kait - Offense.
Kait - Offense.

Who knows which Kait has Air Strike and which has Bubble Shield?

Or two Engineers.

Kait - Engie.
Kait - Engie.

Who has Trackers and who has Decoy?

Do you remember when people would more likely quit if we had two Engineers for Gears 4? Because they could have had similar, same cards instead of being diverse. It would be bad if both Kait had Trackers and same, similar cards. Or both had Decoy and same cards again.

From lobby standpoint view, you get to tell who is playing which role. And that everyone has different cards.

At the moment, two Engineers can work if they have different Ultimate Ability and different cards. Which is Del and Kat. In lobby, you see pic of Del and Kat. But you can’t see their cards. You know they have different cards anyway.

Another reason is that power weapons are now limited. If you want to play two JD for Explosives, it will be difficult to manage ammunition because they are scarce. Dropshot Scions will only appear Wave 4 to 8 of Swarm variant Elite Hunters only found in Infected variant. Too many people can’t use Dropshots or T-Bow. It’s easier to let one guy be Explosive. Unless Engineer made a Locker or your Ammo Regen Perk was high enough.

Yeah, otherwise they would’ve made it a solo player only achievement. Your friends will be able to shoot, but you can’t. But assuming you can use custom Hives (doesn’t say you can’t), I’m sure we’ll be seeing tons of Hives with no, or few if you can’t have none, enemies titled ‘Brought a Knife to a Gun Fight easy achievement’ or something.

Honestly, looks like too much, too soon.

But I will give it a go. I never had a problem of “defending a single spot for 50 waves” because that was the definition of Horde to me. I watched the 50 level run from Gamescom on YouTube and I miss the days when you could actually just hunker down and hold a single spot.

Maybe Custom Map might not be allowed. Because it could result in cheating your way with easier, melee enemies. I would prefer to fight the Warden than Swarm Flock for melee only.

See I agree with you but this is a problem with the class system tbh not the characters. In my opinion it would be better to keep characters free from a class system and focus on no duplicate skills or make all perks become eventually teachable to other characters like dead by daylight. The orginal horde magic in gears two and three and four was picking your favorite character and making the actual character fit your play style. Not picking the character that fits how YOU wanna play. I wanna be sniper Clayton or stealthy Marcus. I’m in no means hating on this game whatsoever I’m just curious how they intend to pull this off. I love everything they’re adding I just hope they don’t limit players. Does that make sense at all?

I saw that too if I put all my time into a character and it forces me to be someone I have put zero time into its gonna be hard to invest my time in horde like I used too

It sounds like you’re trying to convince yourself of these things. That’s fine, I’m not trying to sway you whatsoever. Just letting you know that people aren’t as foolish as you seem to think they are, and their opinions and tastes are valid.

Playing as jack … 2 hours of healing other players, repairing fortifications, carrying weapons & stunning enemies ?? sounds very entertaining for sure …

oh i forgot, and 2 minutes of actually playing as a swarm character and killing stuff …

…yeah, you’re not selling it to me

Jack is only meant for newer players, if you’re adept at the game I can’t see you using it all that much unless it’s to grind his level up to max for achievements. It’s also something new that doesn’t take away from any other part of the game, so there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Or for those hungover morning-afters where you can’t function and need something easy and chilled.

I’m the kinda person who holds doors open for people and helps grannies cross the road. This is right up my ever-helpful street!

I think it would’ve been way better to be able to buy jack mid game and AI controls it …

With some pinging mechanics you could command the AI to do stuff like repairing, healing & all these boring stuff … So players can get into more action …

New or not what kind of gaming experience it is, sticking to someone’s butt and healing them for 2 - 3 hours ?

4 players with 1 Jack Bot is the way to go imo …

Yeah, I had a similar idea from a couple of years back - that JACK could be a default “passive ability” for the Engineer that follows them around and can be directed to do stuff through the target marking system - attack, repair, revive etc. It would have to be repaired and reloaded at the Fabricator; and could even be directly controlled from the Fabricator. And it could be customised depending on the player’s taste through branching skill trees focused around attack, support buffs for team mates, or a combination.

Sounds like you’ve already convinced yourself that you won’t like horde before you’ve even tried it.
Your loss.
