Played my first 50 waves of 4.0 tonight. It Was ok .
I need to understand what the taps do and why I couldn’t interact with them at all, save for remaining in the circle while they appeared and repaired. I was playing as Kait/Scout ?

Also I kept giving myself the perk upgrades, is that what everyone will be doing ?

The mode is not fit to lick Horde 2.0’s (and 1.0) boots though. I was no lover of the last Horde but I would probably take that over this one. In saying that at least we have some new enemy types in this one.

My biggest gripe with horde is classes tied to characters. This should not be a restriction because they say duplicate characters can’t be used. So if someone else picks my character it auto switches and I’m stuck with a character I don’t like, or want to play as. Doing this limits player choice. Classes should NOT be tied to characters and I don’t like my choice being taken away.
No, I’m not being a whiney person. I just feel that choice has always been there. I can understand not having duplicate classes, I get that. That’s not the issue. I want to play as the CHARACTER I select, classes are secondary. Unbind the classes. You can still have the ultimate powers tied to characters, but just have the classes selectable after.

For me the RB does not react for the chainsaw rev or it’s extremely delayed.

That sounds like lag, and from the amount of disconnects everyone is getting lag spikes are a real possibility.

Alright folks so the game has launched 5 days ago for early access and yesterday for global release…

When i posted this thread i knew i’d find people agreeing that Horde had taken a horrible turn despite the fact the game hasn’t even released yet. And that is exactly what happened…

This thread became very active so i find it the right place to say thay now that I’ve had five days early access playtime with Gears, ill give it credit where credit is due. This is probably the greatest campaign in the franchise. Absolute masterclass of storytelling and character work in Kait in particular.

Versus is tops, server issues aside.
Nuff said.

Escape is much more enjoyable than i thought it would be and is a great coop experience, however the whole point was supposed to out running the Venom gas. I could honestly say it would be harder to outrun a three legged tortoise. The venom moves so slow and yes im aware there is a modifier to double its speed. Thats not a save. Its a modifier.

And now the big one. Horde.
God i wish i over reacted to this pre launch. I really wish i was wrong about what a mistake this Horde mode is. But i wasnt.

This “Horde” mode fails in ever conceivable way. Seeing AI characters run around in armor sets i cant use. Hoping some drones spawn using Lancers because JD uses the GL and you cant weapon swap with the AI teammates NOR CAN YOU BUY YOU FROM THE FABRICATOR.

The maps, how sad is it that Gears 4 didnt exactly have the best maps and the most used ones were brought in from previous Gears games. And now 5 comes along and gives like 4 new maps and just re uses the barely liked maps from Gears 4.

The characters and the fact that what you can buy from the Fab are locked to a character. Not just to a class. But to a character is absolutely. ■■■■■■■. Ridiculous.

Im sorry to throw shade at TC so harshly and without constructive criticism attached but… TC you really messed up.

Campaign 10/10
Gameplay Mechanics 9/10
Escape 8/10
Versus 9/10
Horde 3/10 (credit for finally giving AI teammates)

I like how even if I wanted to share my power I couldn’t, because I have to spend 6500 points going from 25%health to 27%. or 2% shotgun damage for 5000 points. Is the only person playing Del Brand new? We’ll you can’t show him how it’s done, because you can’t buy defenses!
Everyone splits the power, but no one shares it!
Even if I liked the new system, its broken anyway, I’m not down for this “drip fed every 3 months you’ll get something we just didn’t add to the base game”. Like Curbstomps!
It was a nice step away from turrets, which they could have just put a limit to 2 on and called it a day, but it feels like 4 steps back, from any horde.
Oh hey, Gears of War has everything every other game has now. Heroes tied to abilities with ever limiting customization. Exploration based pulp missions! Edit-Don’t forget the cute robot sidekick! That is in literally every piece of anything anyone puts out now. Complete with someone growing to like it. edit/No loot boxes, We listened to you! It’s like no, choosing not to put loot boxes in your game makes you not S***** people. That’s it.
The reviews from these critics are great, but everyone that actually plays the game for longer than 2 days to write the reviews, has a negative opinion.

What I find offensive its that they took the time to put homosexual flags on Gears 5 , but didnt took the time to give at least 3 boxes of ammo on horde mode that could give you at least 250 bullets for the lancer. Its not a Resident Evil game where I have to scavenge for ammo, its Gears of War, in which bullets shouldn’t be the problem .

You forget something next time they will put a pokemon skin ! (halo, terminator, forza … total deep SH*T)

what they really need to do:

  • Unlock the limitation (allow to have clones!)
  • Any character can chose is own weapons / cards and save his own payload
  • Equilibrate the skill energy require to upgrade (50% less)
  • 50% of the energy you pick up go directly to the blue box
  • Keep the AI partners
  • Triple the amo we pick up by the weapons and the boxes
  • Allow everyone to construct/create anything with the blue box
  • NO MORE pvp map totaly unbalanced for pve
  • Create map specialy for horde
  • Balance the specialisation who are totaly useless atm
  • ADD MUSICS IN HORDE !!! SERIOUSLY !!! you do not have enough money ???
  • Add more XP in horde (it’s ridiculous!!)
  • Add reUp
  • fix the overpriced construct into the blue box (it’s impossible to construct anything)
  • stop giving us TOTAL BULLSHT as rewards (Skin for weapons and new car ok banner we do not give a sht!)
  • A gow 4 scrap system will be appreciate
  • the pack system was good in gow4 why do you have suppress this one ?
  • fix the PING because after 90 you can’t play you know rollback, lag …

REDO THE HORDE !!! it’s a MESS!

They also did nothing about the engineer. Horde is still just do work for 35 rounds until the engineer has enough sentries built and keep the specific bosses away from fortifications so you don’t lose it all in one round, which is even easier now that you can use Jack to cheese them.
Someone was saying they could of just slapped a 5 on Gears 4 and most people would have been happy. I think it’s kinda funny this game went so far as to remove the “Of War” from its name to specify how different, (and lacking, Batista is a skin not even a character. wow) this game is intended from its previous versions.

I enjoy the new horde kinda forces you to play more aggressive and to stop releying on defences to win. I like how must gun are balanced and its enjoyable. I left gears 4 because i hate the number fortifucations you could build. You could fill the entire base with sentries and watch the game play itself.

You can still do that.
This guy did it on Vaspar or whatever the desert map is and the engineer actually set up sentries in their spawn. After he laid them working out from the fabricator he just laid sentries out all across the whole map. I tried to take a couple screenshots. When you opened your tac com all you saw was blue from his sentries and the shock traps.

There should be a penalty for people who quit horde, there has been to many times I’ve been in horde matches and people quit, I’ve started games and people quit right at beginning, it’s so annoying, give quitters a penalty, tatk points off them, ban them for a sertain amount of time, something should be done
